    The issue 2 with the chip with the lifted leg is part of a mod to facilitate the use of OKI RAM on issue 2 boards. The lifted leg should have a wire connecting it to one of the vias on the motherboard at the top of the CPU. The other legs shouldn't be a mess like that though.

      I had that explained to me by a discord member last night. And you are exactly right!

      @@morefunmakingit2waiting for the part in witch you explain how to connect this patch.
      I have an issue two with Oki chipa (badly patched), and couldn't get high memory working properly, nor with TSM (without the patch).

    Love your channel, great seeing these old machines repaired and such fond memories of the 80s gaming. Never had one of my own but had a hand me down c64 thats still stored somewhere over my parents place.

    Yes I remember upgrading my 16k using a kit and the leg is deliberately mentioned not to install it in the socket

    • @morefunmakingit2
      @morefunmakingit2  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very interesting! I wonder if there were any adverts in magazines for this kit?

    • @davidgranger3628

      @@morefunmakingit2 yes it was a upgrade kit from a magazine , could well have been from a radio enthusiastic mag ? Probably before dedicated spectrum mags like Crash (was that its name?) I had to decide between a spectrum or a Dragon machine that was all that was available in Dixon's? but opted to save money getting the 16k speccy and upgrading later .The upgrade was easy the sockets were there and the instructions on a single sheet of A4 can't remember if soldering was involved but a hot screwdriver was available (the soldering iron of the hard up lol) Tandy supplied the solder .Got a boxed 48 in the loft (for old times sake as the elderly desperately crave their youth back once parts of the body lose interest in other things ) but it's sadly not working so manic miners music cannot send the Mrs into a frenzy as I and the kids played it for hours long ago

    A hint for Specctrum Plusses. Upgrades have the word Upgraded where the serial number would normally be.

    As one who not that long ago acquired a speccy, I'm curious how these things work thanks for the reviews MFMI.

    Interesting to see the voltage LED's on the diag tool showing missing voltages on the units as you tested them, I could watch specky repairs all day lol feed my addiction

    • @morefunmakingit2
      @morefunmakingit2  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. Two of those LEDs can be a little dim and the camera doesn't pick them up very well. But I'll double check anyway.

    The 48K+ if it was an upgrade it would be stamped UPGRADE in red where the serial number is.

    Hi. I’ve got an original c64 which needs repairs. Do you do these? How do I contact you if you do? Uk based.

    • @morefunmakingit2
      @morefunmakingit2  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! I do repair C64's but unfortunately I cant offer a repair service. Plus I am totally swamped with projects and it would take me months to get to your machine. I am happy to give you some advice etc if you contact me via my email or Discord. My email is in the about section of my youtube home page.

    Wasn’t that first 48k saying only D4 was working? It seemed like D4 was green and the rest were red - I guess I’m wrong…

      @@morefunmakingit2 It did not have -5 and +12 when looking at the footage, so lower RAM will barely work.

      On the second one I did see -5V but not +12V. Look at the voltages first. Without -5V and +12V the 4116's rams are damaged fast. These are in fact 12V chips with a 5V bus interface and a -5V bias voltage, they do not like to be powered from the 5V bus. 12V is their main power and it should not be missing.

    Wow, I wish such Speccy-pups would just pile up on my doorstep like that... never seems to happen to me 🙃
    - My sisters little new cocker spaniel pup, really does NOT care much for the cold (this time of year) steel staircase going up to my apartment, maybe that's the issue. 🥸
