You guys spend too much time crying instead of realizing that this card saves you tons of electricity and will be significantly cheaper per frame than any of the cards you mentioned over its life cycle.
Nvidia pulled some shady shit with the naming, but that doesn't make this card a bad product. I'd get it over a 3080 or 6800 and wouldn't even think twice about it.

I get the exact opposite vibe. DF is desperately trying to walk the line of telling the truth (ie that these cards are a great value amd will sell like hotcakes) , while not offending the AMD dickriders that are overrepresented on youtube and social media. If anything, this video is still way too harsh on the 4070, as they were way too excessively critical of the 4080 and 4070ti before it.

Shortly after the 4070ti came out I decided to buy it because the next tier down would have lower performance and saving a little money is not worth the drop in performance when spending so much. The 4070ti lets you enjoy anything at 1440p with ray tracing, the 4070 is a step down and it won't stay above 60fps for ray traced games at 1440p. It's sort of the same situation as why buy a 4080 when you can buy a 4090?

      i’m in the same boat i’ve been holding off getting the 4070ti in curiosity of how the base 4070 performs, though from what i’m able to pick up;
      - 4070 kinda equals 3080 performance
      - 4070ti between 3090/3090ti performance
personally think i’ll still go with the 4070ti since it’s a higher frame rate 1440p card (80+ fps) vs the 4070 which will hit a more flat 60fps. (assuming high settings with rt and dlss)

As much as I respect the opinion and the work you guys do, I've got to say giving Nvidia the benefit of doubt with their current pricing is ridiculous.
Yes, TSMC increased their pricing and yes, inflation is high at the minute, but just looking at the current prices and increases vs last gen shows, that most of the increase is from Jensen and the Nvidia board being greedy.
    3090 < $1499 - 4090 < $1599 = 6.67% increase
    3080 < $699 - 4080 < $1199 = 71.53% increase
    3080 12GB < $799 - 4080 < $1199 = 50.06% increase
    3070Ti < $599 - 4070Ti < $799 = 38.39% increase
    3070 < $499 - 4070 < $599 = 20% increase
There is literally no justification for the 4080 increase of 71% or 50%(depending which 3080 model you want to compare), when clearly they can increase prices by smaller proportions as shown by the 4090 and 4070, especially considering the 4080 only has 40.63% less core for only 25% less cost.

I like Rich but he's really testing my patience by advocating that because a 4070 almost matches a 3080 it somehow represents good value. Imo it should automatically do that at the same price as the the previous 70 series did; that's just technological advancement over time.
Sure inflation is a thing but Nvidia is simply ratcheting up prices way beyond inflation and way beyond any extra cost of materials. Without having looked at their video on this yet, I'm certain that my second favourite tech channel, hardware unboxed, will not try to tell me this card represents any kind of good value.
EDIT: So have to eat some humble pie on this. Steve at HU (the yin to DF's yang) thought it represents good value compared to any card from the 30 or 40 series. With that said he thought $500 would be a fairer price.
EDIT EDIT: Paul's hardware nailed the frustration I was failing to explain well by saying that while this GPU is relatively good value, what we are missing is the days when your 70 series upgrade got you significantly more performance than that of the previous 80 series for significantly less money. That historical line seems to have been broken here. See his video for a precise breakdown.

You realize performance leaps have always been similar. What you should be more upset with is nvidia due to cost from Tsmc taking away bit bus bandwith.
End of the day no matter if these cards are better which they are that bit bus decline is screwing over any customer trying to push that card for ray tracing or 1440p or 4k in demanding titles and shortening life span of the card.
Its purely a cost saving measure and a way to leap frog customers to the more premium models where that margin still exists.
Only 1 thing nvidia did do right was the AV1 support and dual encoders even in low end gpu models.
That really only benefits anyone who wants to record or stream not a pure gamer only 😅. So debatable.

Thankfully (or unfortunately, depending on how you see it), graphics aren't seeing the kinds of qualitative leaps they did in past decades. With these prices, I can wait. Depends on the games that come out, the two biggest titles for me I wanted a new graphics card for were Cyberpunk 2077 and Dying Light 2 and there aren't really many games I'm playing for 100s of hours... Atomic Heart was the latest one I wanted a graphics card for but two of the three games were quite a disappointment.

Solid for 600 😄😄😄 - at the edge of recommending it - right? You are becoming a fanboy channel. No mention of 12GB... No Hogwards, no Dead space, no Last of Us, no RE4, no Calisto Protocol.

1070 was outperforming the 980ti, 2070 was outperforming 1080, 3070 was outperforming 2080ti and here we have 4070 not even outperforming a regular 3080. Absolutely disgusting price for such a gpu

Im happy with my 3060 it plays at high frames at 1080p just wish they would implement the dls3 frame gen its possible but Nvidia want to sell a product thats not really a big leap in actual performance but software thats hardware dependent

I also own a 3060 12gb card and i hope they do NOT enable the frame gen but the other DLSS 3 features wouldn't be bad. Frame generation objectively adds perceived input latency because you will be getting 20-60% more frames with no input available on any of those frames. You'll see 80fps but have the input latency of 45-50fps it won't be enjoyable and it will be noticeable.

It's gonne be pretty spectacular coming from a 1660 super though. But it kinda pains me go give Nvidia my money now. But I kinda need to have a Nvidia card instead of something else for certain scenarios/use-cases related to my engineering studies and creative hobbies and ray-tracing making AMD out of the game for me. But that probably/hopefully won't be the case for the next more gamer-focused upgrade, where I'll hopefully get an Intel Celestial or Druid. I'm all for team blue in time, if they keep pushing prices. Hopefully in that time their drivers work near perfectly with both games and other applications as well. I just really really hope they are still in the game by then. I seriously considered an Arc770 or waiting for Battlemage, and I would have if I cared about gaming only.

I upgraded from a 1060 to the 4070 and the difference in performance is HUGE. Prevously in cyberpunk i could run the game at 1080p low settings 60fps but now with the 4070 and dlss 3.5 i get around 80fps at 1440p max with raytracing enabled.

But how does it compare to my 1080 Ti for 4K 60fps gaming?
