The way this game alternated between forward and side scrolling levels was refreshing. The music was top-notch. The graphics were top-notch. This game proved why the Super Nintendo was so much better than the Genesis. Axelay was one of the nails in the coffin for SEGA.
@Kain8988 The ship's hitbox in Axeley isn't as large as one might suspect. So it was possible to dodge those kinds of shots. Bless that very little hitbox the Axeley had XD

When you pause the game in this level, you can hear the "konami pause" sound with echo-echo-echo... like in a cave, what a detail.
I also like how the sound effects echo. Makes those explosions sound awesome.
Agree on the echo effect, but the explosions sound bad.
The soundtrack on this game was fantastic but this level has got my favourite music.

this is the toughest level in the game my opinion
I have Axelay, and played it through hard and then harder lv go Classics:D Sometimes first boss tilt in harder lv :X But it still good shape.
I hope this snes jewel gets on nintendo switch online
