I love this game for 2 reasons - 1, my last name is Axley. 2. I love space shooter games. This, Super Nova (Darius Force) and R-Type III : The Third Lightning are my favorites on the SNES. Genesis has some serious shooter gems you should look into if you already haven't - Thunder Force III, IV (AKA Lightening Force in the US), M.U.S.H.A., Gaiares, Sagaia (Darius II), ect. Either way, nice flying, Ace! :D

On hard, this last boss was incredibly, well, hard. This guy saved up alot of lives cause he didn't die once untill the last stage but this was no cake walk, as you can see. Props to the people who were able to beat this boss on hard without a game over.

Excellent play of a great shooter. I got this one on VC recently and can only barely beat it on Normal. I heard the reward for winning on Hard mode is a code for Very Hard mode which, while living up to the label, also allows full use of all your weapons from stage 1, is that true?
unbelievable that there is no proper ending and the game starts playing again like in normal mode. I cant believe you did it dude, I used to struggle through hardest and die usually on last level. awesome game ...cool ...someone finally completed it.
I do remember beating this game on hard!. But i barely made it!. All my continues were gone, all my lives were gone, all weapos had been disabled, the alert alarm was telling me that i was about to die, and i was shitting on my pant!!
the thing is, if you play it through (hard mode) then it opens for you an "extreme hard" that you cant even choose.....to get this speed u need to play it through the hard level though:) (to have enough life and b able to play it through, I suggest to begin with "easy" and collect lives, then on level "normal" keep collecting lives, then u play through the "hard" and then u approach a speed where its impossible to play:))))
yes. I did it that way bc I knew I can't survive "hard" without enough life.....than kept playing and the pcu puts so many enemies that is not possible to do the first level anymore

@shamanflebus true, but if you want more breathing room Morningstar use is a must on this stage. And learn to "mess" with the shot patterns more. I'm impressed with the run though, makes me wish I still had my recordings from '93 :)

But really well played ^^ I remember renting this game when i was about 10.. i had it for just one day, and actually managed to beat it the first time playing it on normal, too. Was incredibly nervous though ^^ But supremely focused!!!
Hyperdrake3 is right. After beating hard mode you can continue on with an even more challenging mode that will give you the "See you at Axelay 2" message...unfortunately we never did :(
Great job, to me Hard is alrdy impossible to complete without using save&load state, not more to mention Extra Hard. Btw your primary weapon has 2 beams missing.

@Xinfinitude Yeah i did. I was just saying i used to see that ending, then try to complete game a 2nd time( like Ibuki did) as it got harder/faster. Just seeing someone complete it is a good enough ending :-)
it´s not the hardest difficulty. if you complete the game on hard you start over but now on super hard i completed the game in all 4 difficultys in a row, not died once on easy and normal and then had almost infinite lifes for hard and super hard, that´s how i completed the game easily if you complete it on super hard, there´s a writing at the end of the credits "see you in axelay2"

2:20 man what a creepy eerie ominous track. It stands out more than the graphics and bosses to me

What version are you playing? There should be a lot more shots coming from the "walker" mech when you enter the "base"...
GamerWatcher, I think it's the organic core of the final boss. The mechanical parts were basically just armor.
I know you posted this ages ago, but you saw his upload of the ending credits right? I think that constitutes as an ending.

This is some superb gameplay, despite what all the trolls on here say. This game is fun, but definitely no picnic, especially on the hard level.

I can't believe you picked the wind laser. To me, it's very hard to use.... causes medium damage.. Why does everyone love that so much?

It's scripted which weapons you have. You always get one weapon after every level, and always in the same order.
