It's great to see your son getting involved with working on cars. I can't get my 13 y/o to even get interested😞. I'm in the garage everyday working on my cars
@TheEddysGarage Ok, thanks for the reply. MY 2006 Boxster S make a whine from this area in any gear arounf 3-4k RPM. So, when cruising on the highway between 75-85 mph, you hear this high-pitched whine. I'm thinking it's the idler pulleys. I found a kit online for 500 bucks and am thinking of doing this myself.
@TheEddysGarage Thanks for the support. My only problem is finding a warm place to work. New England weather with no garage isn't the best place to work on cars. I may tackle this in the Spring. Thanks for the replies and video.
On my 1999 Boxste, I removed belt to install new water pump. On reinstallation of the belt, I noticed the AC pulley could rotate freely. Is this normal? Car has 40k miles.
Normally I wouldn't mind and would just try it out, but my pulley exploded on the side of a mountain and I had to leave the car there 😭 so want to go back armed with the right tools and get it fixed so I can bring her home 🤞
Man this is awesome that you are doing it with your kid, he will be a great petrol head growing up, respect ✊
Thanks mate. It’s a lot of fun with him

Yes teens are terrible humans
What made you want to replace these? Did it make a whining noise at certain RPMs?
Just preventative maintenance after seeing a friend’s randomly destroy itself.

@@chacon101 if I can do it then you can do it. For my day job I own a Surf Shop and my background is marine and micro biology.

Later models tensioner arms seize. @WHnw I had to replace the tensioner arm

I probably has a clutch on it so it doesn’t spin the compressor when the AC isn’t on
Hi what size e torx did you need for the small bolt and the big bolt on the two idler pulleys ?
I think it was a 10 or 12 but can’t remember exactly. I suggest getting a set because there are lots of these bolts on the car
@@TheEddysGarage thanks. I have a set but a DIY guide said I need an e13 and E15 which as far as I know doesn't exist 😅, I have E12 E14 E16 in my set

@@meldonte88 well it sounds like a fun place to work on a car. Hopefully you can get it sorted easily
