Don't forget that if there are any zinc plated items on the carbie then it will dissolve it to bare steel which will then rust. Also, any metal dipped in Muriatic (Hydrochloric) acid needs to be neutralised in a dilute baking soda solution afterwards, otherwise the acid will continue eating the metal.

      Thanks for the pointer

So its not recomended to deep the carbie into muriatic acid?

@@johannulrich355 I don’t know, the tested carburetors didn’t have anything plated. They were two older carbs.

I just rebuilt some Webber’s that came on a Karmann Ghia I just bought. They idled good but wouldn’t accelerate. The engine is supposed to be hopped up but of unknown size. Wow, did they work well and it is fast. Really cool and easy to do. I’m hooked!

You have to open your jets, start 200 air and about 145 gas

Also if your carbs are not transitioning from low to high you will need to open your idle jets as well! Good luck and please keep me updated.

@@redartisanwolf6716 thank you very much! It worked well, I’ve used acid a few times since then and some carburetors take longer than others. But don’t leave them in the acid for too long (overnight”) because you might only have a shaft and butterflies left!

What percentage per solution was that muriatic acid when it came right out of the container?

I’ll let you know, when I go back to the shop!

    • @RodsVWGarage

It is 31.5% acid per volume in the container.

I wonder how much better it would work if you boiled the solution like they do in radiator shops and engine shops?

I suspect that would create a LOT of acid vapors. Also, I think engine machine shops always used an alkaline solution, not acid.

well if you could count you would know that for 2 1/2 gallons you should of put in 33 to 34 ounces, yes 33 to 34 not 24 ounces.. when working with things like acids its very important to be able to count if your not given an exact amount and need to make more of the solution. or you could get it fatally wrong. !!!

For somebody being so critical, you'd think you would know how to use caps and punctuation. Just saying.
