A GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT - 2025 Mazda CX-70 - Review

  • The all-new Mazda CX-70 debuts the latest Mazda SUV, slotting between the CX-50 and CX-90. Unfortunately, the Mazda CX-70 is oddly familiar, sharing it's body, drivetrain, and interior with the its larger brother (minus the third-row). This specific Mazda CX-70 GT-P is equipped with the 3.3L mild hybrid inline-6 and clocks in at $56,845.00 CAD here in Canada and is equivalent to the US-spec Mazda CX-70 Turbo Premium.
    Can the Mazda CX-70 make a case for itself and carve-out a niche next to other SUVs such as the Acura RDX, BMW X5, Honda Pilot, and Kia Telluride? Or will it falter to its "larger" brother and fall into obscurity? Find out in today's review as we evaluate the Mazda CX 70 interior, exterior, and driving experience!

    So... does anyone consider the CX-70 worth it with only a $1,000 price difference to the CX-90?

    • @Rodghost1
      @Rodghost1 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      I did and I love it. I don't want or need a 3 row SUV. I wasn't interested in the CX90. But for me, the CX70 is PERFECT. I like the look of the front and rear of the CX70 more than the 90. I like the blackout trim better on the CX70. It doesn't matter what Mazda called it. It's not a CX90 and I'm glad it's not. It is however, a WONDERFUL SUV to drive, that's for sure.

      @bill7481 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t know which trims you’re comparing. For me, the logical replacement for my 2019 CX-9 Signature is the CX-90 Premium Plus, which has an MSRP of $50,355 in the US, the same as the CX-70 Premium Plus. However, the combination of the second-row bench seat and the availability of the red interior in the CX-70 makes it worth it to me. The third row in the CX-90, due to its lack of space, does not make up for the second-row bench seat in the CX-70. And I have gotten more use out of the second-row bench than the third row in my CX-9. Bottom line: I just look at the CX-70 as a trim of the CX-90. I have gotten over the disappointment of Mazda’s announcement of a new vehicle.

    • @GCCarsCA
      @GCCarsCA  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Rodghost1 Agreed on the looks. It seems like the middle-ground we can agree on is, that Mazda should have offered the bench seat 5-seater configuration on all trims of the CX-90. That would give people flexibility to chose what they want / need, while not taking up space in the lineup so we could still get a smaller, inline-6 powered SUV from Mazda.

    I’m confused about all the complaints it’s sportier CX90 with less seats. MOST people don’t even use the 3rd row! As far the cup holders not being deleted, Mazda is a small company saved millions not having to redesign a piece that most people won’t even notice. I pick up my Polymetal Gray CX70 in a couple weeks

    • @GCCarsCA
      @GCCarsCA  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The complaint is, that Mazda had a great opportunity to actually increase their market share by offering a vehicle that sits in between the CX-50 and CX-90, but instead they just deleted the 3rd row of a CX-90 and called it a day. This should have simply been an option in for the 90, not a new model. It's a massive waste of potential for Mazda.
      It's still a great SUV like we said, so I'm sure you'll enjoy yours once it arrives!

    I got a Rhodium White CX-70 Turbo S two weeks ago. Loving it so far and nearly a thousand miles so far. Why'd I get it instead of a CX-90? You can't get a second row bench in any of the trims except the very lowest. My wife and I want... no... need the ventilated seats. On the CX-90, you can't get the ventilated seats in any trim except the very top. The Turbo S Premium, the second highest trim, has a bench and ventilated seats for 5 to 6 grand less than a top trim CX-90. And we don't need a three row. And the rear cubbies actually hold good deal of stuff. Boom. That's why, for me, the CX-70 is the way to go.

    As someone who has a loved one who deals with epilepsy, the biggest advantage for this car over the 90 from my perspective is the safety feature in this car that senses a medical emergency, stops the car and calls emergency services (only in some of the models fyi). This is a life saving feature for people that lose consciousness while driving (seizures, heart attacks, etc) that is a very important difference between these cars. Please consider disabilities & emergency situations when you review cars. The review at the end that says you don’t gain anything and it’s the same car is not accurate if you are someone who has epilepsy or any sort of disability that requires a car to sense medical emergencies. The cars are not the same.

I have a 150 pound St. Bernard and a Husky Malamute. The CX-90 captains chairs would not have been practical and the CX-90 2nd row bench option is ugly as f*%k (my opinion). I totally agree with you that Mazda made this vehicle a disappointment by overhyping it. I was as disappointed as you are when I saw it the first time. However, as a current 2019 CX-9 Signature owner, I would consider the CX-70 for the following reasons: 1. The CX-90 does not offer a second-row bench seat in the upper trims. I have gotten more use out of the middle seat in the second row of my CX-9 than I have out of the third row. I have rarely used the latter. 2. The CX-70 is available with a red interior in the Premium Plus trim, at least in the US, and it has an MSRP under $51k, which is a decent value considering the MSRP for a top trim CX-50, for instance, is over $45k in the US.

    @Rockytop8118 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My take is this. If you look at the Acura MDX with 3 rows. The car has captains chairs with a middle console that folds back up into a bench. You can have both. You can also fold the third row down and have a bench too. The RDX slots nicely in the mid-size arena as a different car. Mazda did not do that. They intentionally don't allow second row benches in the top 90 trims to keep buyers away from simply getting the 90 for that purpose. So basically you can make the MDX a CX-70 and a CX-90 with very small mods. You can buy a CX-90 and black out the car with the discounts dealers are offering and probably come away with a better deal. This is all a dupe for Mazda to report on being in a 2-row mid-size segment in their investor decks n stuff without having to do much of anything outside aesthetic mods.
