I think the reimagining/redesigning of this course was exceptionally well done. Its quite frankly gorgeous and very fitting for it being Peach's race track. My only wish is that they remained true to its original dynamic, challenging nature from its N64 version. The Royal Raceway in N64 was nothing to mess with and was not for the beginners, that's why it was put in the star cup as opposed to mushroom cup. The downgrade of the ramp is my biggest critique of this design. In the original, it was long and kind of climatic, anything could happen to you while you were on your way to the tip of the launch. This one feels very short and mellow
Some of this really can’t be helped. The original Nintendo 64 tracks felt more challenging due to the stiffer controls in Mario Kart 64 in general. The old courses were designed with those stiffer controls in mind. When those courses are brought back too faithfully in later installments, they become boring as hell because the handling in the newer games is a lot easier. I have no particular feelings regarding the ramp, so I guess for me it doesn’t really matter how that got changed. Plus, I imagine some of this changed due to the new hang glider mechanics.
Man the good old Fashioned iconic N64 course from my childhood from 2006-2024 0:41
