If you are in first place when the shell is shot off then it doesn't matter what place you were in when it hits you. It'll still hit you regardless. I know because I tested it when I fell back to 3rd place and still got hit.
@@Kikan319 Weird, I always slow down out of 1st whenever I see a Blue Shell on the map, don't have anything that can stop it and I'm not very far ahead and it always hits the guy that passes me. Do you know it's coming by looking at the map or by hearing the sound? Cause if it's the second option it might be that you didn't do it quick enough. The Blue Shell takes about a second to switch targets if someone else enters first so it's possible that you'll slow down right before it shows up and still get hit.

I had a blue shell in MK7 online and had this happen. While everyone was reversing down the track I just passed them all, still holding the blue shell.

That happened to me once in Mario Kart DS, except that the Blue Spiny Shell did got me but my baits got near the explosion and fell out of bound...
A trick I've used is that since invincibility frames last a long time in mario kart 8 deluxe you can throw a banana forward and slip on it on purpose and you won't take damage from the blue shell because of the invincibility frames.

I was once driving in first place, then I saw a blue shell. It started circling around me, but I accidentally ran over a mushroom at the PERFECT TIME, and dodged the shell.

11) You can also dodge a blue shell on Yoshi's Valley (N64), because sometimes the blue she'll will get lost and just straight up de-spawn itself.

I've had it where you go down a particular path and the game momentarily says you are not in 1st, the blue shell switches targets and passes in front of you. when you merge back onto the main path you are in first again and the blue shell is in front so won;t try to target you anymore.

Throw the banana behind you in hopes that some idiot hits it (preferably the person in second place) and use the coin so you don’t lose as many when the blue shell comes for the booty.

I actually got two for ya. First there's a tough way where if you have 1 or 3 banana peels, throw them in front of you at the right time, and you'll only take the peel slow rather than the blue shell.
The second, is more of a funny thing to do when there is people close behind you. When you see the blue shell on its way, watch behind you and slow down at the right moment to have others feel the wrath of the blue shell with you lol

Nearly every single time a Red or Blue Shell is coming for me while I'm waiting on my Item, either it's a coin, it doesn't appear on time at all or I mess up the block out of pressure. I swear there's only like 10 times in my life where that didn't happen. One of those times though a Blue Shell was coming for me and I was just spamming ZL trying to get my Item and it ended up being a Super Horn and saving me at the last second.
That exact thing happened to me, but I got 2 item boxes. The second one had another horn. I hate coins.
I had a blue shell targeting me, I was hit by lightening at just the right moment where the shell did nothing. Also, I learned the hard way to never hold the bomb behind you for protection...

On 200cc, you can actually outrun the blue shell with enough speed boosts and enough time. It can be stalled for so long, it eventually disappears. Makes some of the most epic footage out there :D

I hate Boo so much. I never get him, and he always steals from me at the worst moments. Every single time I get boo'd is when I'm trying to shortcut, I get ready to tap L, then my items disappear and I look like a moron slowly driving on the grass.
If a boo can’t steal anything, it defaults to giving you a free mushroom.
I did the shroom technique by accident I knew that it was going to take my item anyways so I used it and dodged it. And I was just flabbergasted I was in such aww.
Sometimes, the blue shell just... misses. I don't know why, but sometimes (rarely) I'm in first, and it just misses.
ItsChili when that happens its because you were most likely on a different road than what the blue shell was flying through.

I’ve had that happen before, but I was playing with teams. So the Blue Shell that would have hit me, hit the person behind me because the Blue Shell thrown was of the same team that I was on. If that made any sense.
@@arctistarfox yes it does, if lets say u were on the Red team, if someone from ur team who is in the lower ranks throws a Blue Shell it hits the person who is closest to 1st place or even is 1st place from the Blue Team, thats logical
In Yoshi Valley the Shell is súper prone of getting lost if you just take the path to the right for some reason, all I see is how it attempts to do a second lap itself but it disappears overtime before it can actually catch up with me.

You can’t have 2 Blue Shells on screen, one will actually despawn. I’ve tried it. But you can hold 2 so there’s that!

I'd like to hear more details on the timing for #1. There are definitely situations where it doesn't work and slowing down just results in getting passed and blown up. I've never quite figured out the timing on this, though.

One time I was playing Mario Kart Wii and I somehow managed to get a blue shell in 1st and I wanted to see what happened if I threw it so I did...... I lost that race.

-number 12: when other players drop their super star and you take it, because you didn't get it by grabbing an item box (very situational)

the blue shell slows down when it gets closer to you, so on 200cc theres a chance you can outrun it. (best way is to get into a cannon and get ahead)

I learned the boost method from back in Mario Kart Wii in literally the most situational manner possible. I was playing Mario Circuit and there was a mushroom that dropped from a hit goomba and i had a blue shell on my tail. Me panicking obviously i hit the mushroom and i hit the mushroom at the exact moment the blue shell was coming down and I dodged it. Thats like a 1 in a million chance of happening

the thing is boo was pretty much identical in mariokart DS
If you hit a banana on the right frame before the blue shell hits you, you will still be in the spinning animation and wont get hurt by the blueshell, might be frame perfect but not sure, it happened to me like once or twice on accident

Another way to dodge is actually with the bananna peel. If you slip over it, you have a select time of invincibility, and you can use that to dodge it. Since banannas are actually items you often get in first, it's surprisingly practical

Boo is new to the racing aspect.... Boo was actually an item in Snes Mario kart during battle mode
The N64, Mario Kart 64 had boo item which was usable during the actual race. Also it has been already pointed out that it was available in the very first Mario Kart series the SNES "Super Mario Kart" however only in battle mode.

Actually in mk7, 8 and 8d the timing is nice. Just wait till you see the shell move up and use the shroom when you see its spines facing you
A tactic I always use is very similar to the bail method. Purposefully run into an item obstacle, like a banana or even a koopa shell. Time it right and the blue shell won't be able to impact you, because you'll still be taking the damage from the item on the ground, which all take much less time to recover from than the blue shell does. This helps a lot, especially on tracks with no pits to fall into so bail isn't an option. You still get bananas in 1st place fairly commonly (more often than mushrooms), so a bit of advice, hold on to them and if a blue shell is coming, throw it ahead and run into it. It's pretty easy to time and saves a lot of seconds.

I bow to your timing skills, which I clearly lacked on the only 2 times I ever had at attempting the mushroom dodge.
In the end there are 3 categories to dodge a blueshell : items, fall and damages (like throwing a banana toward you to get hit from it as well as the blueshell hits you. It's still a hit, but you lose less speed and recover quicker from a banana hit than a blueshell hit.)
On Mario Kart: Double Dash, if you drift really quickly around a corner there's a chance you can dodge it. When I had the GC I could do it a few times and it's an amazing feeling

Boo only takes items from people in front, if there is no item/you are first, you'll get a mushroom every time

alex powell that coin came from his second item slot. The boo usually takes a few seconds to steal an item.
Does it not take the item from 2nd place? It did in Mario Kart: Super Circuit
Tocaraca it takes an item from a random person in front of you. (Includes second place.) If no-one has an item it gives you a mushroom.

I have no idea how but in double dash I avoided one by drifting and it somehow flew past me down to another level of the track. wish I had video of it so other people can figure out how to do it. it was on the big wario track in the crown cup btw.
komodo t It's the same as a mushroom, use the boost to speed away at the last second. It's very situational, the you and the shell have to be at the right place at the right time, and hard to pull off so it's not worth mentioning on this video. Congratulations to actually doing it!
Yeah that's what I thought but I have never been able to do it again so I could never figure out the reason for why it happened.
There is one funny thing about blue shell in double dash, in Yoshi Circuit, 150CC, if the IA is 2nd, she will try to let you get hit by the shell at all cost. If the AI is in a turn, she will mostly take the shell, and fall. After that, the game go totally crazy, because the AI which are meant to be your "rivals" (each time 1st or 2nd place) will be 7th/8th and the game will try everything to make them 1st, but they will bug so hard that they cannot escape the last places. Because of this glitch, one time, i got hit by 3 blue shells. In a row, and every others bot were slowing down to let the "rivals" come back ... it's totally crazy x)
The Blue Baby Bowser shell is always a pain the butt to deal with. That last tip was a mind-blower!
It makes me want to stay at the back just to see if I can move up the ranks with the Bullet Bill, super shroom, or the BBB shell itself.

Another good way of not getting hit is to leave the game when one is circling around you - sure, you don't win, but you also don't lose as you left the game - making the round void

While driving on Electrodom, a blue shell was coming at me. Then I saw a boost ramp, and I quickly flash my way to speed. I can not believe that worked, you don’t even need to time it as much as the other options.
The forcing 10 minutes couldn't be more obvious here, this is almost entirely just each item and you wasted so much time, this could be 2 minutes

The Boo was originaly from N64 , the crasy 8 originaly was te 7 ring on Mario kart 7 and the "new" blue Shell was added on Mario kart 64

I accidentally found out about the superhorn method the other tday while playing: Saw a blue shell coming to me while holding the super horn, I guess I panicked and press the item button by mistake and totally crushed the blue shell... felt like a boss!

I've dodged a blue shell with a shock in mk8d, they shocked right when the blue shell hit and I was fine...
He missed out on one other way to dodge a blue shell with a booster pad... but I got shocked before the strike, I don’t know if it was invincibility frames or the booster pad

the reason they're mad is that when you make a video and it's just over 10 minutes, you actually don't care about the content but more about the money, and i can point out a lot of places in the video where he just stretched it to pass the 10 min mark.
I had no idea you can dodge a blue shell other than letting someone into first place or staying in second! Thanks for the tips, now I won't feel so doomed when one is heading my way. First I have to master the dodging, practice makes perfect.

I've dodged it by accident twice and couldn't understand what I did vut was very happy. Ty for the info on this.
Play long maps with branching paths. The blue shell follows a very specific path and will miss you if you go through a short-cut. It'll try to come back around, but I'll disappear after half a lap.

I’ve dodged two blue shells. The first time was me running into a mushroom someone had dropped and the second time, I had my friend throw a red shell at me at the perfect time and the blue shell didn’t even affect me.
I like how he said "situational" just the word and the exaggeration made me laugh and question it.
My favorite method of dodging blue shells is touching some random item on the ground, (like a banana peel or something) spinning out, then having the invincibility frames to dodge the blue shell.
It's pretty hard but happened to me before. If you get hit by lightning just as the blue shell comes it will disappear
That literally just happened to me twice after I tried dodging it with these methods up here lol
