- The Northern Cardinal is a favourite bird for many North Americans. The fiery red feathers of a male northern cardinal bird are depicted everywhere.
But is it possible for this usually red bird to turn yellow?
Yellow Cardinals exist but the chances of seeing one is a million to one. A rare mutation occurs when the red pigment in a Northern Cardinals feathers are blocked and swapped for yellow pigments originating in plants.
