    I generally agree with you, have a bit more issues which let me to sell it again:
    - Map tiles and damage track of single monsters in small tiles are sometimes a pain
    - Out of 6 episodes I find 3 great and one good and 3 I do not like to much
    - Game is generally easy
    - There is not a lot of Story for the episodes.
    - Generally I think it weird to be able to fight an entity like Hastur or Yog in a direct combat. I know this is a step away from traditional Lovecraft where you have normal humans. Which might be nice for other people but I enjoy the weak humans/investigate formula more
    - I like the comic though, even though that is the same theme :)

      Totally agree that it's narratively weak and thematically insane! Hope you find/found a good buyer!

    Excellent and informative review, thanks Mike!
    Would you recommend this over Final Hour as they seem to be rivals in theme?

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’ll depend very much on your tastes. Clearly Final Hour is cheaper, and if you are into limited communication and the suspenseful ending like I am, you might love it. It’s certainly more unique that death may die. But death may die is a lot of fun too.
      I ranked Death May Die a bit higher, but it costs a lot more, so who knows ;)

    Thanks for the overview. My buddy just got sent this. Cthulu isn't really my jam, so I would never get it, but looking forward to playing it

    Thank for you another quick review! Great stuff.
    How would you compare it to Deep Madness?
    Do you seem wanting to own them both?
    Both scenario driven, madness systems and so on.

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheMagWizz I’m pretty sure Peter and I discussed that exact question on the podcast episode for death may die, if you are interested.
      But in short, deep madness still has better episode variety and monster variety I think, but is more fiddly, harder to teach, and forces you to control a ton of characters.
      So both are really good, depending on your tastes.

    NGL, I was purely going to back this, based on my Arkham LCG driven love of the Mythos, and having minis of the gods and monsters would be great. Couldn't justify it in the end due to having no faith in CMON making a good game, but might still get it for that reason

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I’d love to throw some of these monsters down on location cards ;)

      asowle absolutely. We’ve got one new boss ordered, and will probably get season 2 at some point. More variety is good :)

    I love the art in this game. Was lucky bright to get base game and KS exclusive box free with purchase. Have yet to receive it but looking forward to playing it. I have a feeling though based on your review this one is going to be in your “did I keep it” video as a no.

    Hey! How does game compare with Gloom of Kilforth, especially the luck department?
    I enjoyed everything about Gloom of Kilforth except for the dice which got a bit frustrating as there wasn't much more to the combat and all other choices, so it started to frustrate me after a while. I don't think I mind a bit of luck, as long as its not too frustrating (I love Robinson Crusoe's dice rolls for instance).

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh, I think this one is FAR less swingy than Kilforth. Heck, even a bad roll tends to level you up as a consolation prize

    • @kobusbrits3523
      @kobusbrits3523 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OneStopCoopShop okay that's very good to know! Do you prefer this over Gloom of Kilforth as a game and a solo experience? Also, does the game scale well with only two characters?

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally like Death May Die a lot more (I sold all my Kilforth stuff). And DMD is solid with 1-3 players. 4 might be pushing e downtime a bit

    • @kobusbrits3523
      @kobusbrits3523 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OneStopCoopShop Last question, and a toughie: I know you also really enjoy Robinson Crusoe, which you made me buy a while ago. Which do you enjoy the most?

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kobusbrits3523 ah, wrong person to ask. COLIN really loves RC. I culled my copy (watch the episode of Shelf Life from last week to see why).
      But honestly, I don't think either of us would compare DMD to RC. One is a rollicking tactical combat game, the other is a tense survival game. Both are great designs, but personally DMD is WAY more fun.

    Thanks for the video, excellent once again.
    What i don't like, in almost all Cthulhu games, are those "BASE LUCKY LUCK" everytime they make a arkham cthulhu game...
    I don't know why they feel like it should be an obligation once it's cthulhu, that is should be "random" based with dice, tokens and stuff the likes...
    I mean, arkham horror could have been a much better game imo without the chaos bag, aswell as pandemic cthulhu with that stupid dice, and it's mainly true with all lovecratian game out there...
    There are so many much more clever ways to make a game hard without using the "luck" way of doing it...
    That's a shame coz i love cthulhu theme, and i dont mind a game to be hard coz it's great... But making a game hard, just by a luck system that can just make your game to be done in on bad roll... is really annoying...
    My 2 cents of course, but i just feel it like that, and i would be really happy to have a good co-op cthulhu game NOT BASED ON LUCK for once !
    Just you, versus a hard game, that you have to play well to make it to the light !
    Cheers

      Great points here. I think it makes sense to include a heavy element of chaos and randomness in games emulating Lovecraft's original stories of horror and insanity. We are but small insects in the face of the old ones.
      But these games, especially Death May Die, are not really trying to create that theme at all. These are pulpy action games, and thus I agree with you more that randomness is not a must have.
      Honestly, if they had taken a bigger page out of the Sadler Bros/Sentinels of the Multiverse handbook, given each character a unique deck, and had that deck full of actions that would move you specific spaces, deal specific damage, take specific amounts of insanity... this game could be an all-timer!

    I'm probably a minority here, but I don't mind dice luck at all. Guilty pleasure, I guess.

      After playing CMON's Bloodborne, I'm more open to games being great without dice--but I still love a good dice chucker😂.
