    I'm glad to see a different scenario than 1.1. Having two melee characters was tough with Ian's psychosis, but he was quite the MVP at the end.

    • @OneStopCoopShop

      The insanity cards worked pretty well together. Stay separate so Ian doesn't get stressed, and so Fatima doesn't murder him ;)

    • @davidko9289
      @davidko9289 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OneStopCoopShop True, although if Ian wasn't quite so terrific at the end, Fatima and Ian would've been in the same space to attack Cthulhu, and things could've spiraled. Thankfully Ian is a boss.

      Most of the characters can get to a crazy place. There are only a few that really annoy me with their balance, at least in the base game.

    Hey Mike-
    Great video and have to say that after watching your video, I might stick with my pledge of the new Cthulhu: Death May Die - Fear of the Unknown - have 5 days to decide if I decide to stick with it or get a full refund.
    I flipped through other Cthulhu: Death May Die videos to watch on here and then flipped through other recent videos and I noticed that the intro music is gone - so sad. 😭😭😭😭
    That music was so upbeat and drew you in to want to watch the video more.

    Game looks great. My questions wuold be.. Eldrtich Horror or Death May Die ? I do not curently own any lovecraftian games. I know these two are in a different category but which one would u go for? I love both narration/exploring and dungeon crawlers. Oh the choices!!

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Oh, that's tough... Eldritch takes longer to play, and has more fiddliness, but is also much more epic in scope. I would also say that it can have better character progression, with diverse items and spells and stat upgrades to gain.
      Death May Die has better components, faster and simpler gameplay.
      Both have fun narrative, SOMETIMES. Death May Die is super light on exposition, but has some nice emergent narrative in the mythos cards and episodes. Eldritch has wild adventures in the encounters and such, but they aren't always very cohesive.
      In terms of expandability, neither is great for extended replay with just the core set. Eldritch almost NEEDS the first small expansion, which doubles the encounters for each location so you'll barely notice repeats. Death May Die's two bosses get very tired quickly.
      Eldritch is cheaper to get the minimum to enjoy the game for the long-term. Death May Die may be a bit more fun, though that could be recency bias for me.
      So, short answer... I don't know! It'll depend on your tastes and preferences. But I hope some of this info helps.

    • @Carfilliot
      @Carfilliot 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Riff Lair eldritch is a little more respectful to the lore of Cthulhu and Lovecraft, Death May Die is more pulpy action like an Indiana Jones movie. They really don’t share many similarities accept the mythos so it’s a tough one to compare. If you like plenty of action and gorgeous minis go for Death May Die, if you prefer more narrative and character driven gameplay then go for Eldritch. I would also strongly suggest checking out Mansions of Madness 2nd edition.

    A board game where you literally beat Cthulhu by punching it is equivalent to a hardcore bdsm porn movie based on Tolkien's lore: there are some weirdos that are into these kinds of things, and these are both equally dirsrespectful to the source material...

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a big Lovecraft fan myself, I don't necessarily disagree, but especially with all the FFG Arkham games (almost all of which feature a way to kill a great old one with a pistol), it's a pretty well established subgenre at this point.

    • @Gekkibi
      @Gekkibi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OneStopCoopShop I haven't played them all, but I can't recall any FFG game where you directly combat the ancient ones. For example in Elder Sign you must succeed at the "battle task" if the ancient one has awoken, but this doesn't mean you're directly fighting the ancient one, you're merely trying to succeed at unspecified/arbitrary tasks to seal the ancient one (doing rituals, fighting cultists, etc, more or less the same things you do when completing adventure cards). I don't know how all the ancient ones in Arkham/Eldritch Horror behave when awoken, but those I know of don't involve (direct) combat of any kind.
      Guns, or any kind of direct confrontation for that matter, should be reserved for taking care of the cultists and lesser beings. Combating chtonians is as ridiculous as Eldritch Horror can get (as far as I know), and that's barely inside the suspension of disbelief.
      However, to each their own...

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Gekkibi in all the most popular ones you can directly fight the GOO with conventional weaponry - Arkham Horror 2nd and 3rd, Arkham Horror LCG, Eldritch Horror...

    • @Gekkibi
      @Gekkibi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OneStopCoopShop In that case I've been lucky and only encountered those ancient ones that don't involve direct combat...

      Sort of! Watch the review. One of my biggest complaints with the game (though I really enjoy it) is the swinginess of the difficulty. Some games feel like cakewalks in the end, though many are full of tension.

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t know if that’s what the designers intended, but I don’t think the cards indicate that.

    • @mountainpony
      @mountainpony 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @L Vader This actually came up in one of my play-throughs. He is correct not to shuffle the Ballgoers after Interrogating them; unlike the Interrogate action, there are Mythos cards that specifically state to move and shuffle the Ballgoers. An Elder One Advancement explicitly states to shuffle them as well. I think Agents are supposed to be able to deduce the Sorcerers in the room, unless an event mixes them up again, and the reason the dancers are placed facedown again is because there are Mythos cards and events that affect facedown Ballgoers.

    Hmmm looks funny 😄. How you can compare it to FFG EH or AH?
    I love EH is epic! AH3 is a bit sucks… not so good as EH or AH2. Still not bad but not Epic…

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is definitely a VERY different feel compared to AH2 and EH. Those are more wide-ranging, epic affairs with goofy, unusual events and narrative instances.
      Death May Die is much quicker to play, more of a focused action game. Not sure which one you would feel has more variety in play. Death May Die has the different episodes, but AH/EH has the card variety, and of course tons of expansions.

    • @OneStopCoopShop

      This is definitely more of a game than MOM. That’s more of a narrative experience for me

    • @18ps3anos
      @18ps3anos 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't think it's fair to say AH3 sucks but EH is epic... I don't see much difference in fun comparing base AH3 with base EH. Also I enjoy the narrative aspect of AH more than EH. What I truly dislike about AH3 is that the gameplay loop is too repetitive and sometimes you can get quite s tuck trying to find the clues and gets frustrating. Maybe, since you dislike MoM (which I find it's the best of the FFG lovecraftian board games - notice I'm not including the LCG here) you are possibly more interested in action driven games. Then I think you'd enjoy this game a lot. I'm not sure if I want to get it yet since I still want to give more use to the games I already own, and now I'm into Call Of Cthulhu TTRPG, but the shorter game length is indeed very appealing. Also I love those mini's!
