    I think with blades you might obsess about shot shape. With these it seems like you can just account for the wind and focus on distance control. • @Luke-ir8rv
    @Luke-ir8rv ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I see a lot of confused amateurs in the comments, better players and pros don’t play blades to “look cool” or because of “pride”.
    The reason pros play blades is for consistency, feel, workability, and turf interaction.
    Any hollow body club like the 790’s will occasionally have “jumpers” where you absolutely flush it and it goes 10 yards further than you wanted. For a pro who hits it on the button consistently this is a problem. Where a blade hit on the button will almost never have that distance control issue.
    Not only that but you lose spin when playing a hollow body club. Spin for workability purposes, and for green grabbing control. Which is needed for the extremely firm greens they play.
    Lastly, when you play in the rough the pros play in you need a thin sole to chop through the thick grass. It is almost impossible to hit say a stealth iron out of thick rough vs a P7TW blade
    I assure you if pros gained a competitive advantage from playing game improvement irons, they would use them.

    I got the 790's because at my 80mph 7 iron swing speed, they look and feel amazing. I can tell you what the experts say about them. The 790's are great until you get to a 90+mph 7 iron swing speed. From that swing speed and up, the 790's simply go too far, and your gapping will be a mess. The 770's, with weaker lofts, are the next obvious choice at those swing speeds. However, the dispersion for shots just 1/4 inch outside center mass (as shown with robot testing) makes it clear why tournament golfers are unhappy with almost anything besides a blade. That's why mixing the 770's with the 7MC's is so popular, and slight miss-hits (1/4 inch) with the 7MC's show a significantly tighter dispersion. If the robot testing is to be believed, there are definitely players irons from other brands that out-perform the 790's, and the 770's, with respect to dispersion. They say dispersion under robot testing is most useful in objectively rating a clubs engineering, and potential; for actual players, YMMV.

    I recently switched from blades to PD irons. Not necessarily for distance, but to pick up some forgiveness. Have hovered around scratch for most of my life. Always played blades.
    Finally just realized that the folks who have the most to gain from PD/GI type irons are people like me. They’re not magic. They won’t turn a hack into a good player. But they can make the slight misses significantly less punitive for a good player.
    Wish I’d have checked the ego and done this years ago.
    One common thing purists will say about PD/GI irons is that they don’t have good dispersion. That you’ll get random “rocket balls”. It’s nonsense. Have had them on a launch monitor all year at home and never once experienced the mythical “rocket ball”. Not to mention, a lot of LPGA pros play these exact type of irons. If there were some inherent issue with getting reliable control out of them, you’d better believe they’d be bagging something else.

    I have been kooing to get these, After I had a really bad experience with tietlist earlier this year, where they fittet med for T100S and put the wrong shafts in them. Here 7 month later they still havent fixed them for me and i dont get replies on mail sms and so on. Basicly Im left with a set i cant use and they have now been sitting in the basement for the past 7 month gone out bought a set second hand just so i had something to play... So now im back to saving up for a new set again... Never getting Tietlist again,,, I only played 16 month of golf and currently at 17 handycap so i have a feeling thise would help me get even lower.. so hopefully one day... Great review Micah Greetings from Denmark

    Bro, you need to play the whole set of 790’s! A honest humble man would admit he’s truly not at a level to play true player irons and use the technology manufacturers put in to the player game improvement irons like the 790’s. You really have never gone low in years, maybe making a easier iron to hit would help you overall. Not sure how many more times you can get fitted by some of the best and still not hit consistent accurate shots. I’m from McKinney TX and played with many high level Texas Amateur players, Collin Stoops, John Darden, Alex Moon, Noah M, and never seen you play in any competitions in the area!

    Micah, so many tour pros are now using cavity back clubs, as it makes the game easier for them, so why wouldn’t you. Ego is the biggest personal issue a lot of golfers have, if you can overcome it and use clubs that really enhance your game, then use them, you were as good as I’ve seen in a long while. Good luck with your tournament.

    Micah, a combo set of these new 790's in the 3,4, and 5 irons and then the 770's in the shorter would be money for you. They are still forged clubs so you can still work them when needed but they are also a little more forgiving. The new technology in the 790's with each club having different weighting inside to optimize each particular club for what it's supposed to do makes things easier. That combo set built up with the axiom shafts you've been using recently would have you hunting those pins. Why make things more difficult on yourself by trying to hit the perfect sweet spot on a blade when these players distance irons work so well. Also, because they are forged, they can be bent to add a little loft if you need them to not go quite so far. If Rahm, Speith, Fowler and so many other tour pro's are going to more forgiving but still workable irons it shows they are more concerned with scoring than they are status or stereotypes. Make the switch man, you will score better.

    I got fitted into the 790s and this year was my first year playing with them and shaved five off of my handicap. Sitting at an 8 now. They are surprisingly juiced too for being as forgiving as they are.

    • @besticandogolf5901
      @besticandogolf5901 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honest question; do you see juiced as being a good thing? I was just fitted into MP 225’s and my favorite part is we bent them 4* weaker than my old pings and my gapping is like 11 yards now. When I shoot a yardage now, I’m throwing DARTS because my yardages are so dialed.

    • @2old2game5
      @2old2game5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@besticandogolf5901 no, juiced is good for various players and bad for others. For instance I like it because my 7 iron on up are very good with a 5-10 yard dispersion pattern where as my misses with 6s and up are like an entirely different golfer in the bad sense. So I enjoy being able to hit a 9 iron 160 to 172 as I’m more comfortable hitting a lower iron than a higher one. All depends on your game and for the bigger picture it depends on how well each player knows their game.

    • @2old2game5

    • @besticandogolf5901
      @besticandogolf5901 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@2old2game5 just seems like you’d have a heck of a time with gapping at the bottom of your bag if you’re hitting your 9 iron 170 yards. Left to right dispersion being tighter is obviously great, but how do you account for pins sub 160 yards with only a Pw and some wedges left in the bag? Throttling your swing with such a massive range of carry yardages has to be somewhat challenging no?

    Nice review. I've noticed a lot of good players 'mixing and matching' their irons and wedges all within the same brand and it makes sense really. For example, if the A wedge (gap wedge) works for you, put it in the bag. I want to see you realize your dream. Make any changes necessary to help you achieve it. Good luck!

    Great advert for TM.
    But, seriously, you hit these well ... because you swing WAY smoother with them compared to your gamers ... probably because you know the 790s are juiced and the yardages have some "ego" removed from them.
    The point of the game is to put the ball into the hole in the least amount of strokes possible ... so, if these irons go straight, go long and are reliable then why not?
    Same point re: a cut down driver.
