Great idea! I have a few 5 gallon buckets with a bunch of 1/2 in x 1/4 in x 2ft long cutoffs from ripping down reclaimed fencing (it’s what I use in most of my projects) and have been looking for something creative to make with them. This is perfect!
Excellent video and such a cool project, very innovative! I would really like to make one of these. Does it matter the types of wood you used? I have a lot of small pieces of walnut, cherry, and maple leftover from cutting board projects. Thanks again for sharing this awesome video!
Thank you for watching and commenting! I got my brand from Branding irons unlimited: brandingirons.com. I bought mine with an electric heater, but you can get unheated as well and heat it with a torch. I was so happy with mine that I bought another, smaller one for smaller projects.
That is a featherboard which is held to the bandsaw or tablesaw table with magnetic switches. It's a great helping hand and safety device. This particular one is by Rigid and I got mine via the Home Depot website.
@@JeffMarxWoodworking Ahh i see. So is it butted up to the wood to keep it in line (like a mini fence) or is it for safety purposes? I have 2 bandsaws and have never been able to slice through wood like that without major wobbles. I was thinking that device was assisting with such a straight cut?😊
@@CTID It helps keep the bottom against the fence, and you still need to steer the top. The blad, blade tension, drift angle, and lots of other factors come into play to get a good cut. There are good videos on TH-cam on setting up your bandsaw for good cuts that are worth checking out. On the tablesaw it's actually a safety feature helping to prevent kickback as well.
@@JeffMarxWoodworking Thanks Jeff! I will definitely be getting one of those clamps. If the bottom part is held in place that's at least half the battle! 😁
Dude - push sticks and feather boards. I cringed when you were pushing your hands right over the blades on the jointer and the table saw. Only takes one slip.
На 7.43 у тебя косяк - непроклеено, да и куда столько клея лить? да и напилены - одни тонкие, другие толстые. Такоё шикарный инструмент и так парчужно смастырено, жаль. Ну всё одно - подписался.
I believe all mating wood surfaces were glued. I sawed them as evenly as I could while paying attention to safety. If I make more in the future, I will probably cut the thicknesses on the bandsaw and just be prepared to sand more. Thanks for watching and commenting! Thanks Google Translate!

Awesome! This project was fun, I hope you enjoy as well. Thanks for watching.
Cool! And a great use of scrap pieces.
Thank you!
I like this. When I will try it, I'll probably drop the outer layer though, because I like that scrappy design.
Also: Nice choice of music. :)
Thank you, I hope yours turn out great and you have fun making them!
Nice! Did you sand before finishing? And how many coats of poly?
@annagardberg9765 yes, I sanded to 320. I think I did 3 coats knowing they'd be experiencing some condensation from cold glasses. Thank you!

Thank you! I think any species of wood should be reasonable to include. Good luck, I hope yours turn out great!
@@JeffMarxWoodworking thank you sir!
Nice!
Thank you, I really appreciate it!
look nice, i like pixel style look they have. Is your outer layer plywood?
Thank you! The outer layer is maple.
Nice!!!
Thank you!

Will that poly protect those from both hot and cold beverages?
It should, polyurethane is a pretty protective coating. I added more polyurethane than is shown in the video for the sake of brevity.
Thanks for watching, and for the question!
6:13 Could you tell me the name of that orange clamp and how its attached to the table?

Really love the coaster but come on man, that music is just way too loud!
Sorry!
So they invented this thing called volume control... If too loud it allows you to turn it down... What will they come with next?
Stop that music
Hah! You can turn it down. Sorry. 😳
I thought it was good...
These look good, what were the dimensions of the final coasters ? if you don't mind me asking.
Funny, I had to measure one: roughly 3 3/4" square by a fat 3/8" thick.
