Before anyone says ''But HxH came out in 2011.'' The manga came out in 1998 and was HIGHLY influential and a massive hit. Togashi (the mangaka) also did Yu Yu Hakusho which has a lot of similar elements, which Naruto also took a lot from (like Genkai's test).

The problem with the HxH 2011, is that the skip the Gon's backstory. To understand Gon's motivation to become a hunter, you need to watch the original Hunter x Hunter 1999's first episode. It will reveal Gon's backstory, and be important for the story as a whole. If you do end up watching HxH, please watch the first episode of the Hunter x Hunter 1999 version.
The captain isn't using a traditional pipe. It's a type of cigarette holder. You're probably more used to the long thin black ones old movie starlets used to use. Cruella Deville is also a famous animated character to use one. In those situations the tubes were used to keep nicotine stains off the fingers and prevent lipstick from smudging. However in the captain's case the holder prevents his cigs from burning his facial hair.

Agree on HxH being fully worth every praise. But its better to not hype it until he reacts to things by himself. People ruin surprises a lot by anticipating episodes.
Truth be told Gintama is a lot harder to get into for western audiences because a lot of the humor and what is trying to do is steeped in Japanese culture and events that happened in japan during those times. Image a western Movie/Tv Show/Cartoon makes a joke or reference to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock, you will not be able to understand it or it might simply go over your head because your not living in a area where you would be exposed to that. You simply wont enjoy it if you don't understand the reference.
So something that you need to know is that there is an older version of the anime that has adapted stuff that got cut from this more modern version of the anime. Also, Hunter X Hunter will go from Shounen to Seinen. And the moment that it does is quite obvious.
Ah Yes, Here we Go! *Hunter x Hunter* is easily One of the Most Well Written Shounen shows ever (coming from someone who don't perticularly even care about Action Shounens that much) it starts off with this Uplifting & Wholesome Vibe but it gets Dark real quick while introducing us to some of the Greatest Antagonists in Anime History 🛐 If *JOJO* isn't winning, HXH needs to be the show you should watch among the 8 titles!
This series is going to be fun to watch and I hope you enjoy it if you get to actually start watching. I hope you react to the 1999 OPs as well. The old Hunter x Hunter series have more than one OP and ED. The songs are pretty good! I like the songs from the 2011 series but the first OP of the 1999 always have a place in my heart.

It was usually used to help keep makeup from smearing, ash from getting on clothes, and prevent tobacco stains on fingers. I suspect the Captain uses it to help prevent his beard from catching... but it also altered the taste of smoke so maybe he preferred the 'cooled' smoke more, maybe even had a flavor filter in it but that's just speculation.
I watched this on stream but I’m still gonna support lol. Gon is one of the most unique MCs because of how unhinged and morally grey he is. You don’t get that much of it here, but I think the one instance was when he said “Mito said X” instead of his aunt when none of the characters know who mito is. It’s subtle but it fits Gon perfectly. He doesn’t care if they know who she is

He just does whatever he wants to and helps whoever he chooses to. The story makes it clear that he is hypocritical yet childish with his decisions often and just whimsically does whatever tf he wants to.
He's not really unhinged or morally grey; he's a child. He's literally pre-pubescent. Children have a notion of right and wrong, but they also believe what they want and can't properly rationalise their thoughts. They just do what they want. That's why you hear of frequent bullying with kids or, in extreme cases, of little monsters doing some heinous stuff.

Violence, death, trickery, unfairness, none of that really phases him because that's the norm in the jungle. It's as if he regards the world at large as a jungle and will only rarely get genuinely upset if it majorly affects people he cares about. It's a good thing Mito had some civilizing influence on him that gave him an appreciation for friends and family though because otherwise he could very easily have turned out to be a total sociopath.

She's his aunt (father's sister), and aside from grandma the only family member we meet for quite a while. Father Gin is absent, became a hunter 20 years ago and was seen for exactly 1 day since then being the day he dropped Gon off with his sister. The aunt has no idea where Gin is/went or who Gon's mother is or anything about her.
Also the "well he knows Gon's dad" everyone of importance knows Gon's dad. Gene is recognized as one of strongest hunters ever seen. Though noone knows where he is.
Yes, the 2011 adaptation is the one you should react to for maximum views to your channel. However, episode 1 of 2011 has a major flaw, leaving out half of chapter 1 of the manga. I think they did it for pacing and to give the series an initially deceptive "happy-go-lucky shōnen boy goes on an adventure" vibe. The author wasn't deceptive, and from the very beginning included dark events from Gon's life 3 years previous to what you see in 2011's episode 1. So, to get the story as the author wanted it to be understood, I strongly suggest you watch (and maybe react to) ep.1(1999). Or you could read the manga chapter 1. Overall I prefer the 2011 adaptation, but 1999 has some peaks that dwarf the same events in the later release. Side note, you may have one too many exclamation points after Gon in the video title. People might confuse you with Hisoka ... 🐶

Considering it's already been 9 days since this video, I really hope this isn't going to be a "forgotten series" xD. HxH is one of the all time GOAT shonen anime. Hell, it's one of the all time GOAT anime period. Everybody that's interested in anime as a medium should watch this IMO.

Parents aren't perfect, but this is simple cruel. And not in "they didn't give their kid what he wonted hence they are bad" way, but in their attitude towards him. It wasn't only unwise, but also very immature.

This anime has quite a lot glitches , the first one is why the fish is so huge but the fishing line is so tough that it can't be broken...plus , Gon's weight alone couldn't reel in the entire fish
Truth. Part of what makes it so good is that vein of being surprisingly dark that you see bits and pieces of in the first couple of seasons but don't really appreciate until the third. The whimsy is also what makes it awesome, of course, and that's in full force from beginning to end. If Luke's surprised the fish has legs, he's going to really get a kick out of some of the other things coming down the pipeline. EDIT to add: For the record, if you read this Luke, it's not a twist anime just a sometimes twisted world.

HxH is a bit of a slow burn imo at the start. I may have dropped it at some point if I hadn't heard the hype surrounding it, and boy am I glad I didn't. There's one 'arc' I'm sure you'll hear people mention a thousand times that takes up nearly half the runtime of the show and it's up there for my favorite arc of any anime ever. It's incredible and well worth the silly happy go lucky power of friendship stuff at the start.
Whelp here's hoping it's "Hunter X Hunter" over "One Piece". Got 8 episodes into One Piece and I just wasn't really feeling it. Not that it was bad, just that the thought of having another 1000+ episodes to watch to catch up turned me off of it.
imo it's best for him to do hxh first anyways because of the short length of it being under 200 episodes. would be annoying for him to start with the extremely long series that will take foreeeever to get through
For me it's about watching things evolve in one piece. The anime for sure has some pacing issues and can be pretty slow. It's one of those animes that no doubt has a harder time hooking people. I've heard talk about the studio doing a revamp of the series with newer animation and fixing the pacing issues. I"m unsure if true and how it would turn out but if it's done well maybe give it a try then.
@@kobaltreaver What would make sense is a cut down, only the bare minimum set of episodes to get people caught up. Since it's a shonen they could probably cut 1000 episodes down to like 20 I imagine.🤣 You get people into the current episodes, they get invested in the story and then have a desire to watch the full series.

I still think Bleach is the best to start with, but HxH is a 10/10 anime no doubt. You will be glad you watched it if it’s chosen… and actually now that I’m thinking about it, you don’t like to skip filler. Bleach is top tier.. except the fillers. There’s an entire filler story arc that all fans will beg you to skip lol

HunterxHunter is a Masterpiece, no filler and the most important, not near a 1000 episodes, just a 150 or something so it is manageable.
HxH looks quite simple and generic in its first episodes.
But it has a lot to offer, it is my favorite manga and anime. Togashi is a masterful writer.

Hunter X Hunter is an absolute S tier shonen, at the very top of the genre alongside things like One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist and Attack on Titan.

This anime has quite a lot glitches , the first one is why the fish is so huge but the fishing line is so tough that it can't be broken...plus , Gon's weight alone couldn't reel in the entire fish

Truth. Part of what makes it so good is that vein of being surprisingly dark that you see bits and pieces of in the first couple of seasons but don't really appreciate until the third. The whimsy is also what makes it awesome, of course, and that's in full force from beginning to end. If Luke's surprised the fish has legs, he's going to really get a kick out of some of the other things coming down the pipeline.
EDIT to add: For the record, if you read this Luke, it's not a twist anime just a sometimes twisted world.

Lately there's been this HxH reaction trend, everyone's watching, yet for some reason seeing you watch it feels a bit strange. Not in a bad way, I'd definitely follow along with this series with you.
It's something that tends to happen among anime reactors. It's like fans go around and get as many reactors to watch the specific show around the same time. I mean I'm following like three people watching MHA right now.

Do both versions of Hunter x Hunter. Both are great. The 1999 version have different openings. That is Gon's Aunt Mito not his mother.
HxH is a bit of a slow burn imo at the start. I may have dropped it at some point if I hadn't heard the hype surrounding it, and boy am I glad I didn't. There's one 'arc' I'm sure you'll hear people mention a thousand times that takes up nearly half the runtime of the show and it's up there for my favorite arc of any anime ever. It's incredible and well worth the silly happy go lucky power of friendship stuff at the start.

Whelp here's hoping it's "Hunter X Hunter" over "One Piece". Got 8 episodes into One Piece and I just wasn't really feeling it. Not that it was bad, just that the thought of having another 1000+ episodes to watch to catch up turned me off of it.
imo it's best for him to do hxh first anyways because of the short length of it being under 200 episodes. would be annoying for him to start with the extremely long series that will take foreeeever to get through
For me it's about watching things evolve in one piece. The anime for sure has some pacing issues and can be pretty slow. It's one of those animes that no doubt has a harder time hooking people. I've heard talk about the studio doing a revamp of the series with newer animation and fixing the pacing issues. I"m unsure if true and how it would turn out but if it's done well maybe give it a try then.
@@kobaltreaver What would make sense is a cut down, only the bare minimum set of episodes to get people caught up.
Since it's a shonen they could probably cut 1000 episodes down to like 20 I imagine.🤣 You get people into the current episodes, they get invested in the story and then have a desire to watch the full series.

The difference in 1999's first episode, I would guess, is that it adapts the flashback with Kite, like in the manga. But I don't know since I didn't watch 1999 either lol
