Lyrics:
Let me sail, let me sail, let the Orinoco flow
Let me reach, let me beach on the shores of Tripoli
Let me sail, let me sail, let me crash upon your shore
Let me reach, let me beach far beyond the Yellow Sea
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
From Bissau to Palau in the shade of Avalon
From Fiji to Tiree and the isles of Ebony
From Peru to Cebu, feel the power of Babylon
From Bali to Cali, far beneath the Coral Sea
Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up
Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up
Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
From the North to the South, Ebudau unto Khartoum
From the deep sea of clouds to the island of the Moon
Carry me on the waves to the land I've never been
Carry me on the waves to the land I've never seen
We can sail, we can sail with the Orinoco flow
We can sail, we can sail
Sail away, sail away, sail away
We can steer, we can near with Rob Dickins at the wheel
We can sigh, say goodbye, Ross and his dependencies
We can sail, we can sail
Sail away, sail away, sail away
We can sail, we can sail
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Enya was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Donegal, Ireland. Enya studied classical music at college under private tuition. On leaving college she was asked by Producer Nicky Ryan to join her siblings in their family band. She did so for a short time, but found it too restrictive musically, and so in 1982 she joined Nicky Ryan and Roma Ryan in a creative and business partnership. Enya's first commission was to write a score for Sir David Puttnam for his film "The Frog Prince". Then, the triumvirate secured the soundtrack to the BBC documentary series 'The Celts'. Enya was then signed by Warner Music and all three by EMI Music Publishing. The first album of this contract was "Watermark" with the hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by "Shepherd Moons", "The Memory of Trees", "Paint the Sky With Stars", "A Day Without Rain" which produced the single, "Only Time".

How can a song released in 1988 be so timeless. This sounds like it's from the future. Enya is timeless.
it sounds like shit :(
High quality song! That’s the reason, why is this song very popular even today!
Brilliance is brilliance
Nah, it's pretty fucking dated lol

Back in elementary school, my art teacher would play Enya while we painted. Sadly, I have forgotten her name with time, but I thank her for playing it.
Wow my bf and I were just talking about our hs art teachers last night (different schools). We both said at the same time they played enya . 😂
@@fleetwoodmacncheese7377 Oh wow, such great stories indeed. My art teacher in elementary school didn't use to play any kind of music, but she let me express my self and be creative. I remember her name well, and probably thanx to her I still paint, some 25 years later.
Same Mr Grover He Would Also Play Reading Rainbow Lean On Me And Other Beautiful Songs During Art Class Such A Fun Teacher 😊
That's soo cute
Let's call her Enya
When I was a young metalhead, Enya was secret guilty pleasure of mine that I kept hidden from my bandmates. These days I openly proclaim my love for Enya. Her music has held up better than anything I was bashing out on the guitar back then.
Hah, exactly the same for me! 🤘✌️
Try playing Orinoco Flow on Heaphones "Metal" Vox Amp Plug. At night...only you could hear it, not even your band mates
Tbh i feel there is no need to like jz 1 genre of music; there's no "wrong" genre or "the" genre.
After all, music is about the feels, so depending on the mood, one can listen ro anythg from metal to game/movie soundtracks, to enya, etc!
Crawling out of my metal rabbit hole to emphatically agree! Enya along with Loreena McKennitt in my case. The drone, reverb, and arpeggio is like the echo of something more sonically intense.
Same.. metalhead and listening to this enya to and some enigma and bjork

@@euphegenia well you've to be "lucky" and find it on the radio or something 😆
This song is 35 years old. And it sounds brand new. A timeless classic.
Tô lembrando de quando o Palmeiras ganhou o eneacampeonato brasileiro em 2016.
Takes me back to those early days of 1989 when I first heard it on the radio and then the awesome video on MTV. Its like I can feel the same air that was around me back then. You're right, so timeless and once I start humming it it sticks with me much of the day.
Did you say 35 yrs old?
Really dont like this analogy. Music was much better 35 years ago so it sounds EXACTLY 35 years old.
@@totalprocall6894 Great way to put it. I wouldn't like an old song that sound like it came out today.
Enya's music always sounded like something you'd hear in heaven.
Wow compliments don’t come any higher than this.
Enya is freedom, Enya is life, Enya is love.
The only reason this song doesn't have a billion views is that nobody can find it
Bruh facts 😂
I thought the title was say the word 🤣
...or perhaps the fact that it has been a third of a century since it was a hit. If you search for "sail away song", it still is at the top of search results, so it's dead easy to find even if you don't know the singer or the title.
@@jayclarke6671 Ah, yes. There were so many other comments about the imagined challenges of finding it, I was thinking along those lines too when I replied, but you are right. There is a reason so much of the music of the 70's and 80's, particularly, keeps getting played and seems a lot longer-lived than most of what has come since.
I am a bit of a cultural omnivore myself, enjoying classical music, opera, modernism, 60's pop, old-school jazz, Bluegrass, Breton folk music, ambient, experimental electronic music, 80's pop, and even some of the new stuff, up to and including Eurovision songs. I don't judge anyone's musical tastes, and I like keeping an open mind about cultural expressions of all kinds.
I think what I generally respond positively to, though, is when something is done well within its genre and style, and when it feels genuine and sincere. That does admittedly rule out a lot of the 21st Century stuff.
I usually use the word "interesting" too as a measure for what I consider good art.
And it also means I don't actually like Orinoco Flow so much. I think it's the least interesting song from the album Watermark, and I tend to skip it. It sounds like it was cynically made to be commercial as opposed to being made to express something profound like the rest of the album does far more successfully.
Her next album, Shepherd Moons is overall her best. After that, she gradually started repeating herself without really creating anything new, and I lost interest in paying attention to any of her new stuff after "The Memory of Trees" (which I bought on the day of release).
@@jayclarke6671 Hehe. yes, I can imagine what it's like to be 19 in the middle of pandemic lockdowns. It is potentially such a pivotal time of life too in shaping you as the person you will become for the rest of your life. It certainly was in mine during thankfully far less "interesting times" in the early 90's.
I've spent 7 years trying to find this music from my 5th grade class. My teacher used to always play this woman's music and nothing else could ever compare to how relaxing it is. I could never find it because I couldn't remember the words, only the melody. This is a monumental moment for me. Thank you.

same I've been looking for this music my 5th grade teacher played it and I always felt so focused yet in tune with the music !

@@Natsu25100 they are there, just tough to find.

😅
I first heard this song through the static of my car radio in the early 90's and immediately began searching for it, but failed repeatedly. I even bought a White Snake CD at a music store because it had a track on it called "Sail Away," but it wasn't the right song.
Fast forward ten years. I got a 3rd shift job and was having a hard time sleeping during the day, so I walked into this tiny music shop that I happened to pass on my way home from somewhere. The store was dark and the only person in it was an odd looking middle-aged woman with piercing green eyes. I told her I needed something relaxing to help me sleep and she said she had just the thing. The woman disappeared and came back with an album called "Watermark" by an artist I had never heard of named Enya. I decided to give it a shot, but when I tried to pay for it she told me the store was closed, (thus the darkness,) and the register was already shut down so I could just take it.
On my way home I popped it in. The fourth song, "Storms in Africa," stirred something in my soul, but when I got to track 7 and "Orinoco Flow" played I nearly crashed my car. I had not heard the song even _once_ since that time 10 years earlier, and here it was, without the static, enchantingly beautiful, and free! I decided the next time I was in that town I'd go back and thank that lady profusely and buy every Enya album there was in the store! But when I finally made it back out there 6 months later, the little music shop had vanished and was replaced by a drug store.
The whole experience was odd. If it wasn't for the fact that I still have the CD I would think the whole thing was a dream.
+StormSong8 i know the feeling i have always thought of her voice as a dream
flirtwithapokerface Yeah, I didn't know what Whitesnake was. Back then FYE and Strawberries music stores had these mini computers in the aisles. You entered the name of the song you were looking for and it told you what album it was on. There was no way to sample the track before hand. I was way off!
What a beautiful enchanting story!!
Caleb Hoo True, thanks for saying so. I feel all cozy down to this day when I think of it.
***** I think somebody must have told her that too, because "Sail Away" is tacked on in parenthesis after _Orinico Flow_ on the CD. Maybe the phrase _Orinico Flow_ means something to her personally, and she didn't want to call it Sail Away, even though it would make the song harder to find.
11 years...11 years I've been looking for this song.

When my dad was on his deathbed he said just play Enya. Seriously. I’m glad we did.
My husband died a month ago and this song was played at the beginning of his funeral. I hope he “sails away” to heaven. I miss u sweetpea xxx
I'm sorry you've lost your husband. The thing that keeps me going and gives me great joy in my life is my relationship with God. I know that I will go to Him when He calls me home. I have a lot of friends and family but my love for them is stronger because Jesus is my first love. I think it's interesting that this song stirs up something in people, like an ancient memory. I believe it is the longing of the soul for God. As Saint Augustine said, the soul is restless till it finds its rest in You. Blessings.

The first time I heard Orinoco Flow I was maybe 10-11y old (born 1980). My father had the original Watercolor vinyl disc (still at my mom's and I forbid her to throw it away). My father loved Enya and he introduced me to her otherworldly songs. He died in 1996, motorbike accident. facts
In my opinion, Enya is one of the most under appreciated musical talents of the 20th century.
That’s bollocks
Bro you’re crazy. She is Ireland's best-selling solo artist and second-best-selling artist behind U2, with a discography that has sold 26.5 million certified albums in the United States and an estimated 75 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Just because you don’t know much about her doesn’t mean she’s under appreciated.
@@rustyshackleford7404 Maybe after Sinead O'Connor?
She is as big as U2 !! Back in the late 80s and early 90s she was the best Irish performer.
I love Clannad, Cocteau Twins as well.
If you don’t know them, then please try to listen to them. Specially Clannad.
That is not right that Enya is depreciated for her invaluable songs. They are a testament to a harmonious life. At the same time, the public prefers to hear junk songs. Enya has had some wonderful music that should be appreciated by everyone.
This is the most dreamy, enchanting and whimsical sound there is
Clannad - Theme from Harry's Game.
This song feels like how I imagine enchantment magic to be
Just a certain type of people like this music. Yes! We are a certain type. We like this epic music.
I was lucky to be watching Top of the Pops when this came out in the UK. I went straight out and bought the album and spent the next six months listening to it. An instant classic.
Some people love to bag on Enya because its very tonally soft. But this song represents such an impressive feat of multi channel audio and mixing, anyone who is serious about music recording has to respect it.
Regardless of whether or not Enya is your thing, this song is a masterpeice.
I was thinking exactly the same ! I use this track to demo on Hi-Fi systems or Hometheaters. This track has it all ! Excellent to compare music quality on subwoofers. Speed, thickness, low frequencies extension !
I know absolutely nothing about music and audio stuff. I just know this song has an incredible power for soothing and relaxing, and at the same time I'd say it's rather upbeat. Perfect :)
I also believe that staying with Roma and Nicky for over 30-35 years played a huge role. They all grew together in their skill set. Huge fan....musically and technically.
This song sounds better than great. That is why I love to hear it at happy times. It is sweet-sounding.

@@abstractum1564 Enya herself says her music is not new age. She says her genre is "Enya"
Whatever yall want to say, but Enya music definitely belongs to New Age genre since the beginning.
If you own BBC The Celts album, it says "NEW AGE MUSIC" written so big in the CD.
Later she doesn't admit it, because Rob Dickins told her so. But her music was nominated for Best New Age Recording 7 times, so it IS new age forever.
Happy Birthday Enya And Thank you for changing my life with this song ❤️🎈🎉🎂🎊
This isn't just a song it's a masterpiece!
I remember the year 1991, it was Christmas and I went up to the mountains to ski on the bus; this song sounded; I was 14 years old and it touched my heart. One day in class I asked a friend of mine if he knew who the author was and he told me Enya. Thank you Enya for your work. A greeting from Spain
Its Jamie Davies I hope your alright jacpoe3 my mate and buddy.

It is physically and spiritually healthy to listen to music like this.
That is so true!! My youngest is 16 but he’s non-verbal autistic. A few weeks back he had one of his meltdowns he hasn’t had in a long time(this one got really really bad) and I swear the only thing that would calm him down and help ease his sweet little mind was playing this over and over!!
@@lorib.4735 it's interesting that this music has that good effect on someone like him.
Absolute Legend of a timeless song thankyou Enya ❤️🌹
Thank you google find that tune for letting me find this song when it randomly came up in my head.
The Music only exists in heaven, and she brought it to us. Certified angel.
Agree
Can't wait to listen to this song with my new headphones which tune all outside noises out.....I need to find the best quality source for this song.
Yes
Via Donegal
Absolutely love it!!!
That dress she's wearing is to DIE for gorgeous (as she is).
Antigone Freimann , she always has the most beautiful clothing and jewelry. Matches her perfectly.
Unfortunately no man can have her.
This song brings so much nostalgia.
I forgot this song existed and then I heard it at a store this past weekend.
I asked google to identify the name of it for me but for some reason it couldnt.
My friend thought it was called Save the Whale lol but I knew that wasn't it.
I just now hummed it into my phone and presto!
😆
Let me sail, let me sail
Let the orinoco flow
Let me reach, let me beach
On the shores of Tripoli
Let me sail, let me sail
Let me crash upon your shore
Let me reach, let me beach
Far beyond the Yellow Sea
De, De, De, De, De, De, De, De, De, De
Sail away, sail away, sail away [x4]
From Bissau to Palau - in the shade of Avalon
From Fiji to Tiree and the Isles of Ebony
From Peru to Cebu hear the power of Babylon
From Bali to Cali - far beneath the Coral Sea
De, De, De, De, De, De, De, De, De, De
Turn it up, Turn it up, Turn it up, up, Adieu, Ohhhh
Turn it up, Turn it up, Turn it up, up, Adieu, Ohhhh
Turn it up, Turn it up, Turn it up, up, Adieu, Ohhhh
Sail away, sail away, sail away [x4]
From the North to the South
Ebudae into Khartoum
From the deep sea of Clouds
To the island of the moon
Carry me on the waves
To the lands I've never been
Carry me on the waves
To the lands I've never seen
We can sail, we can sail
With the orinoco flow
We can sail, we can sail...(Sail away, Sail away, Sail away)
We can steer, we can near
With Rob Dickins at the wheel
We can sigh, say goodbye
Ross and his dependency
We can sail, we can sail...(Sail away, Sail away, Sail away)
It's feel the power of Babylon
Who is Rob Dickins?
@@caitlinr2689 es un musico o productor que trabajo con enya :b
@@caitlinr2689 It's one of the few songs where the producer is namechecked
This was recorded at the Orinoco studios in London. The song has depth and a myriad of imagery on a number of different levels ❤
The feelings and nostalgia that come with this song are immense…she really is great.
I feel like people complained about a lack of originality in the musical industry and Enya said, “hold my tea.”
@@vjreimedia Hip Hop was around long before Enya came along and it’s not “going down.” Hip hop has a long legacy of talented hardworking people. It was the music of the streets, an evolution of Jazz and was cheeper to make because often the people making it didn’t have as much money. What made it bad was when major labels started churning it out because of its affordability but watered it down in both message and quality. When I was in music school, I met world class composers and performers who all had a great amount of respect for hip hop but were generally irritated by the lack of respect and misinformation put out about it. The reason an artist like Enya is so amazing isn’t just her amazing talent but also she has far great access to resources to make the level of music that she does and also she has been given a lot more freedom to do her own thing. These are few privileges most hip hop artists could ever dream about. I would argue that bubble gum pop and boy bands have done far more damage to the music industry.
@@sweeney60 than you for this as a African American we often hear in round about way "we ruined this or it was nice until we. got our hands on it" mean while everyone wants our words our clothing our music our features our very culture just not the ppl attached to them.
the problem is generalized pop and the labels that sign artist and force them to just make "hits" there's no creativity or freedom that's why u can take any pop country song and layer it over any other and it will match there's seems to me a "pop template" that is so widely used and all songs and artists now sound the same. but it seems some ppl want to blame a group of ppl instead
@@vjreimedia if you hate black ppl and the music we created like Hip Hop, Rock, Rap, R&B, House, Electro, Disco, Bluegrass, Blues ect than just say that
@@AveSinistra I think you should seek treatment for your inferiority complex. VJ Rei never mentioned any of the things you are saying.
*Enya* *Eternally* *and* *Forever* *.*
My dad used to play Enya in the 90s in our unfinished basement while burning incense , the whole basement had Rasta overtones adorned with medieval pictures of knights and great ladies
Enya's voice is something else. Also, the music in her songs is wonderful.

I was only very young when this came out, but it’s lived rent free in my head ever since ❤️
Сказочно,магично ...мощно! Bravo
When I heard the song for the first time, my mother and we 3 children fled from the romanian revolution in 1989, then this song came and somehow I knew everything would be fine, I was 4 and my brothers 5 and 6 years old, my mother was so strong and has mastered it all alone like much in her life, mom i love you , and thx ❤❤❤
What a lovely comment! You're blessed with a strong willed mother who loves you dearly.
I was blessed with such a Mother she passed away two years ago..
My siblings and I are still heartbroken our father was just as kind and loving he's gone too.
Cherish those you love while they're alive.
People like you are why I joined the military after high school. I hoped that, in some small way, I could help. USAF 82-87.

And this song is released from 1988 but it sounds like 1997 because about the digital keyboards and there is no synthesizers

Here’s the second one who asked that question. I’ll probably find about 20 more.
Enya looks like an ornament for the bow of the ship in the video.
In a hundred years, this song won't get old.
One of the most peaceful, soothing songs I've ever heard.
I am listening in 2024. I also listened in 1988. Life is so dreary and dull compared to 1988. We must relax and enjoy life again.
