    As a new knitter, I have found all your tutorials invaluable! I find myself getting online to see how to do a stitch and end up watching several videos in one sitting. :D I'm looking forward to giving this one a try, thank you so much for all the fabulous videos!

    I've made two hats so far Magic Loop method and just love the pattern. Thank you for sharing it. But when knitting Magic Loop from my Boye Interchangeables, the angle they have on the cords is quirky, I got a bamboo circular without that bend and everything worked up fast in the 48" length. The extra length is easier to work than not having enough length and the connectors to make longer cord length was hanging up on the Boye needles perhaps because of the finer yarn.

    Do you think it's easier to avoid laddering by using DPNs? I've been using circular needles, watched several videos, tinked-knitted and tinked again tryng to get it right and I still have a ton of ladders. Could my circulars not be long enough? Could my needles be too short so that it's keeping a lot of constant tension on my work? I've even tried using a baby hair tie to cinch my cables so they don't pull on my yarn.

    Can you use normal (not baby) cotton for this? I've got a lovely rainbow-coloured yarn, but I'm not sure you can use such intensive colours in a newborn cap - all outfits I've seen are sort of pale and I thought maybe there's something about the dye that's not good for small babies?

    working on 1 needles and very fine yarn, never did this before, only to get 2 1/4" finished in 2 days. I seem to be losing stitches on the ends, they drop off, so the ends look screwed up and can't repair or try to, the stitches are so tiny!!! but I'm still plugging away at it and will probably donate it to a hospital for newborns. but it is challenging and probably too much after finishing my 1st pair of socks on dpns.

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can block this just like any other handknit - by handwashing and setting out flat to dry. (This is what I'll do before we donate them to the hospital, using Dreft baby laundry soap.) Or, if you're using a machine washable yarn, you can wash and dry them by machine. The caps will take shape as soon as they're put on a baby!

    OK, so I am watching you slip a stitch. Yes, so easy but, what is the procedure from going from the purl 2 to the slip the stitch. Do you continue to leave your yarn in the front to slip or do you pass your yarn into the back and slip the stitch with the yarn in the back. I fully understand the always slip as if to purl but "you used your yarn from behind so I do not see that as a "true slip as if to purl procedure". I will reword this in another manner. The pattern calls for p2, s2,k2,psso. Now when going from the purl do you keep the yarn in the front or should you put the yarn in the back before you slip the stitch. I have tried it both ways and on leaving the yarn in the front when slipping the stitch the psso will leave a clean bar without a purlbump. The process of moving the yarn to the back when slipping the st will leave a purl bump bar . ? Does it matter? Thanks

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patricia Pompei - you should always slip a stitch (as if to purl) with the yarn in back, unless the pattern tells you otherwise. Patterns will usually say "slip stitch wyif", which means "with yarn in front", if that is what the designer intends.

    Hi. I was really pleased when I found your video on this lovely little hat, but was quite disappointed that you don't actually show how to make it. I have been knitting for 25 years and I don't think I have seen a more confusing pattern ever. I casted on the said 100 stitches, But where do you go from there??? Help...!!! I have gone onto very pink website and have also seen others struggling too. So glad it was me. I've purchased the wool and dpn's and now sat looking at the pattern yet again feeling pretty stupid that I can't follow this pattern. Not sure if I start a rib or start row 1...

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diane - sorry you're having trouble, but I'm not sure what you mean. You'll want to work straight through the pattern, as it's written. (And I'm not sure where you're seeing negative/struggling comments on my website...?) Cast-on, join in-the-round, then work straight through, starting with the ribbing. I demonstrate the techniques that are used in the pattern, in the video.

  • @ppompeiable
    @ppompeiable 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    If the pattern st does not matter I think that the plain bar with the slip st made with the yarn in the front is more masculine and the slip st with the yarn in the back causing the purl bump and left slanting st is very feminine.

    Is it possible to use a short circular needle for this not in magic loop? I have one that is 16 inches that I would like to be able to use.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Katie Petrie - 16" circulars are great for adult and kid caps, but I think this cap is too tiny for anything except DPNs or a longer circular using magic loop. There are 8" circulars out there, however. I don't use them myself, but I know some knitters like them for items like this.

  • @thilanielvitigala8326
    @thilanielvitigala8326 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Staci, What would be the ideal circular knitting needle length to try without the magic loop? Any suggestion? Thank you

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      16" circulars are usually good for hats...it's been a while since I did this tutorial, I honestly can't remember if this hat is large enough to fit around 16" circulars. My guess is that you would be able to knit at least part of it on 16", then switch to dpns for the decreasing.

    How do you get 50 st on each of a circular needle that is not connected to the other needle?

    • @kathyschamberger4946
      @kathyschamberger4946 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found a video she did on knitting with circular needles. Cast on 100 using the cable cast on method. Watch her video for joining work in the round then after the 2 ends are joined you flatten your work as it's on the needles to find the middle of the piece. once you find the middle, pull your needle cord out in between stitches in the middle of your work. But not all the the way. You have to watch the video. Your working end will be pushed down the needle so you can knit but your work on the left needle will be up on the needle. So you have 50 stitches on either side with a loop of circular coming out through your works middle separating the sides.

    "Newborn jaundice is when a baby has high levels of bilirubin in the blood. Bilirubin is a yellow substance that the body creates when it replaces old red blood cells. The liver helps break down the substance so it can be removed from the body in the stool. High levels of bilirubin makes your baby's skin and whites of the eyes look yellow. This is called jaundice."
