    Hi Patti, I just wanted to add my thanks for your detailed instructions and for providing the size chart and pattern So kind of you! I'm looking forward to knitting a hat for my daughter and 20 month old granddaughter. Thank you! :)

    Hi Patti I'm back. : ) I can't tell you how much I appreciate you putting ALL sizes with instructions for them as well!!! I do believe you've saved my sanity I've made the adult hat (you taught me how to cast on knitways) and have been going nuts trying to find a clear and concise tutorial for baby and child. WOW you really went all out with leaving the written patterns/sizes/needle sizes etc. THANK YOU so much! Now I'm on the search for a shorter than 16" length circular needle. One I found would have been great but I'm such a tight knitter and the plastic needles just don't work well for me. I shall persevere since that's what I do ;)

    Hi Patti, brilliant tutorial thankyiu! I am about to make the child's hat, your notes say to use bulky 6 yarn, but I only have a bulky 5 yarn. Would this be ok? Do I need to change the needle size or the number of cast on stitches? If so, what needles do you suggest I use? How many stitches would I cast on? Thankyou

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try casting on 52 stitches with your US10 needles.

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But it is best to knit a little sample to test your gauge. Cast on about 16 stitches and knit about 6 rows. Measure how many stitches you knit per inch.
      Example:
      Let’s say you knit 6 stitches per inch and you want your hat to be 12” in total circumference.
      Then just multiply 6x12 which equals 72. So you will cast on 72 stitches.

    I trying knit a hat for my grandson who is three, using dk ysrm on 4mm short circular needles 16 inch casted on 100 stitches just hope its wide enough, going use your measurements and decresse the same even though have more stitches when finished x

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I cast on 44 stitches using a chunky bulky 6 yarn for a child’s hat. DK yarn is much thinner and 100 -116 stitches should do it. If you want to make sure then knit about 8 rows measure the circumference and it should be about 12” laying it flat and when stretched about 21”. Then you know it will fit.

      Hi Candace. It’s a bit of a work around to print from the description.
      Give this a try.
      1. Search for my TH-cam video on TH-cam
      2. Just below the video click on share, then click on copy link
      3. Go to google or your browser of choice
      4. Click in the search field and copy the URL link from my video
      5. My video should come up
      6. Click on my video
      7. Look for the tiny black arrow to the right and below the video. Click on the arrow and it will bring up the description box. Or click on show more
      8. Select the text or pattern you want to copy and scroll down till all is selected
      9. Click copy
      10. Go into a word doc and paste the text or pattern into the document
      11. Now you can print your document
      If that is too hard for you than send me an email requesting the knitted hats for the whole family to craftypatti60@gmail.com

    Hi
    I was trying to find the handy chart for size and yarn for the hat in different sizes can you how I can get it and the other thing is I got some 8 ply yarn to use what needles and stitches should I have thanks gloria

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gloria. The handy chart is at time stamp 2:41 in the video. Just pause so you can refer to it. I try not to measure yarn by the ply because it is different for each type of yarn. Some 4 ply yarns could be the same thickness as an eight ply yarn. I know it can be confusing. Instead look at the term chunky or bulky. You can look on the label and see if it recommends using size 10 needles and if it does you are set to go.

    Bernat Softee Chunky 6 weight calls for 8mm needles, how many stitches would you cast on using the 8mm needles?

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had 60 cast on stitches with US10 needles. I don’t like a tight fitting hat so I used the larger needles. My guess and it is a guess that you could cast on 64 for an adult hat. Everyone has a different head size. You you are knitting for a larger head than cast on 68.

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn’t matter if you have done ribbing or all knit stitches for the body of the hat. Continue to follow me in the video when you get to the decrease rows. You will be knitting 2 knit stitches together instead of 1k1p stitches. The knit 2 together will form the top crown of your hat. And then the last stitches are cinched in. This pattern has no cast off stitches.

    Hi there, love your style and channel, excellent teacher!
    I am ordering wool and note that for the Wool label for Bernat Softee Chunky Bulky #6 it suggests 8mm needles US 11 for the Adult Dad hat instructions you gave it says 6 mm US 10. Would your label have said those needles? I’m a beginner and just learned about matching needles and wool from label and don’t want a different shape. Do I follow your instructions for needles or the label of the wool?

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Connie,
      I used the same size needles for all the hats to make it easier for everyone. But instead I confused you. Sorry about that.
      Because I was demonstrating using a bulky #5 and a bulky #6. So I left it all the same needle sizes to hopefully make it easier.
      Yes, you are right. The label will give you a needle size to fit the yarn size. Because we are just knitting hats we have lots of leeway to adjust yarn size and needle size. Saying all that you will be fine with the US10 6mm but if you already have the US11 then it will be fine.

    Hi Patti, I have a med. 4 Moyen (Caron cake swirls) yarn and want to knit hat for 3 year old. Yarn suggests size 8 needle. How many stitches should I cast on? Have you worked with this yarn? Will this yarn have stretch for comfort or be a tighter fit? Thank you for any help.

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When you are changing up needle and yarn sizes it is best to knit a little sample to test your gauge. Cast on about 16 stitches and knit about 8 rows. Measure how many stitches you knit per inch.
      Example:
      Let’s say you knit 8 stitches per inch and you want your hat to be 12” in total circumference.
      Then just multiply 8x12 which equals 96 So you will cast on 96 stitches.
      The Caron cakes is fine to use but will just be a tighter knit hat. The ribbing is what gives the hat the stretch. Not the actual yarn.
      Hope that helps.

    Nice please how many stitches for a 4 ply yarn ?❤

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When you are changing up needle sizes and yarn sizes from original pattern than it is best to knit a small sample gauge.
      Cast on about 20 stitches and knit about 8 rows.
      Look and see how many stitches you knit in your inch(2.5cm)
      Average size adult head is about 21-24”(53.3-61cm)
      Your finished hat should be about 14”(36cm) in circumference when it is flat on a table and about 24”(61cm) when stretched out.
      So if you have knit 6 stitches to your 1”(2.5cm) then you can figure out how many stitches to cast on to get the right size. As I mentioned above your finished hat should be about 14”(36cm). So 14”x 6 stitches= 84 stitches to cast on.
      Just make sure your final number is a multiple of 4. Add or minus a cast on stitch to make it work.
      Hope that makes sense.

    Instead of circular needles could we use straight needles?

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts

      You can. But the idea of the circular needles is that there is no seam to sew up making for a nicer looking knitted hat. And it’s super easy to use circular needles.

      The yarn I used for the dads and child’s hat is a thicker yarn and would be warm for winter. The ladies and baby’s hat is a bit lighter in weight but was warm enough for me on an average winter day but maybe not for a 40 below day of course.
