    Good video and I like the fact you scanned models of different sizes and showed the detail differences with the different modes.

    Hi Julien, thanks for the comprehensive video. Do you know how well it works for scanning people?

      Works perfectly to scan people. I scanned my family. I did not uses the textures though, only the geometry since my goal was to 3d print them ;)

    I’ve watched over videos where is an exposure problem when scanning outdoors when it’s too bright. Do you think the use of ND filters in front of lenses would help?

    • @Giu3232
      @Giu3232  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@johnmortimer7782 maybe. It's true that under the sun the trees for exemple, are hard to scan. Stones or rocks showed no major issues. But yes it works better in the shade. If you do not need textures scan by night or in the dark, it works perfectly in low light. ND filter could work but i did not test it. It would reduce the reflections from the sun but will reduce the visibility of the infra red too i think. If you manage to try and test it please let me know if it worked :) thanks.

    Interesting video.
    General question : for instance for scanning an aircraft plastik kit, let's say a Phantom in 1/48, would this scanner be better than simply using photogrammetry ?

    • @Giu3232
      @Giu3232  19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@christophed4579 depends of the size of your model, it's painting... Photogrammetry is good if you scan something with tons of details, like tree bark, rocks, crocodiles... But not much for flat surfaces and flat colors. It needs everything sharp, so focal lenght may be an issue if you have a classic lens and shoot something very small. Photogrammetry will create a surface with a lot more artifacts than laser or infra red scanning, but if you desaturate and high pass the color map it can often bring back very thin details but that post processing after scanning, not raw scan. If your plastic kit is unpainted and the surface has no details i would go for the miraco, since I got it I scan most of everything with it.

    23:40 as a texan with a midwestern accent myself (not southern), i can understand you just fine. i enjoyed watching this review. around the timestamp, you talked about polarized textures. can you upload a video on that? you could include why you would need them for your job or what 3d scanners use them. i am not too familiar with scanners but i think this is one i would possibly buy in the future. most of the cheaper scanners cant seem to scan properly, like they fail halfway or mess up the model too much to use. i would mainly be copying random small objects or sculptures to 3d print for fun. 🙂

    • @Giu3232
      @Giu3232  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, I use polariser when i do photogrammetry. Polarised picture is used to create the albeado texture, reflections comes from spec and roughness maps. During a scan for film we often use polarised pictures to get the shape from the scan and the albedo in one step.

    Can it be used for 10-15 cm figures? Dragon Ball characters like Vegeta...but I did see Vegeta's hair, he didn't capture them too well, can it improve with a more detailed scan? Thank you

    • @Giu3232
      @Giu3232  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes. If i had captured more frames it would have been better. I shot the video in a rush at 3am. Fedex had massive delay delivering the scanner. I rushed the scan, the video edit, everything 😅 hopefully it's not to much visible in the video. Precision is 0.02mm. Pretty accurate. 15cm models should be fine, some people scanned very small stuff with it.

    Super portable, so I ordered a 32gb. Scanning gets done moreso when not having to carefully transfer a computer and cables and power supplies around to difference places.
    It has a very useable resolution for its price too.

    • @Giu3232
      @Giu3232  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      From my understanding 16 or 32 gb is the Ram, the storage is 250 gb. You can probably scan all day without filling it, specially if you only capture the point cloud and process later on the computer. Going from 16 to 32 gb would allow you to capture 2 times more frame, which could be useful in continuous mode scanning large models.

    Thank you for the video 👍 How would you say it compares to the other 3D scanners you have used & would you say it's priced well at £1,000 (€1,150) I am a backer & this will be my 1st 3D scanner.

    • @Giu3232
      @Giu3232  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's close to my nextengine 3d laser desktop scanner in quality, better than photogrammetry for the geometry, in this price range it really is in a good position, in near mode I managed to get more details than expected. If you want something better it exist for sure but the price will be multiplied by 10 or 20.

    I pre-ordered the 16GB RAM version because it is the most affordable option. I plan to use it for scanning automotive exterior components. I would like to know if, during scanning, the memory becomes full halfway, will it automatically save the progress? Is it possible to resume scanning from the point of interruption by accessing the recently saved file? Thank you.

    Hello Julien,
    Thanks for the video, very good information.
    I want to buy the scanner (I have already reserved it), to scan sneakers.
    For me, the textures and details of the fabric are very important.
    After watching quite a few videos, I can't see any that show the quality of the textures obtained.
    Can you advise me?
    Thank you so much

    • @Giu3232
      @Giu3232  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They are preparing a video showing the texture quality from what I heard. I did not used textures too much, since it's 8 bits .jpg and that under 16 bits tiff or 32 bits exr it's hard to get back the details in shadows and highlight. I have a beta version which has limited hardware and software power so did not focused too much on the texture aspect.

    • @pedrocaudete5942
      @pedrocaudete5942 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you very much for your response Julien.
      That's what I thought, I hope someone can upload a sample of these textures but as you say, 8 bits .jpg seems not enough to me.
      All the best

    I have Revopoint POP 2 and it's not good at all, this Miraco is much better or samething ?

    • @blm7929
      @blm7929 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Revo Pop 2 is a toy... I returned it quickly after testing despite of all the good reviews on TH-cam (which are surely sponsored).
      I had a EinScan SE after it, it's a whole new world ! But it's a desktop scanner, not portable.
      So I have the same question as you: what about this one ?

    • @Giu3232
      @Giu3232  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @blm7929 Technology progresses quickly. I m very happy with the geometry i get from that scanner. But i received a demo unit and got some textures issues. If there is one area where the miraco could get improvements, it's on the textures side. I scanned my kids while they were sleeping 2 days ago, in near mode single shot you get a very very nice and sharp result.
