This is my favorite cinematic from the game and I loved it even if I didn't know what the lyrics said. Now that I saw this..... I'M TEARING UP EVEN MORE!!!!!! THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL. It's amazing how this is the company's first AAA game and it only took 4 years with about a team of 30 people. Huge companies really need to learn from places like this. Another scene hard to pick up is when they reunioned in the pool, Bajie turned into a boar and the lady turned into a spider. Here's my interpretation. After they were sure that they recognized each other, Bajie first turned into the huge boar form. In this way, he was saying that: see, I'm not the general in the celestial court anymore. Everyone scolds me for my ''ugliness' looking like a boar now, and how I look actually reflects a part of my true nature, which people spit on. The lady stunned for a moment and then realized what he meant. She immediately turned into the giant spider form, which was saying that I'm not the maiden in the celestial world anymore either. I knew your nature from day one, yet I fell in love with you as I'm the one who can understand you, embracing your true nature, both the good and bad part of it. I could have not become a spider, but following my heart, I pursued my love in the price of losing her position in the celestial court and even becoming a beast. The parallel between Bajie turning from piggy demon to human and her turning from human to spider is the scene that got me crying. I think it means to escort Tangsanzhang ,achieve buddhahood and most importantly to protect spider demon from the curse Bajie has to turn away and let go of love , meanwhile spider demon's become attached to the feeling for Bajie more and more just to live with him once even it cost her to devour her own siblings and doing horrible things. Growing up, I had always perceived 猪八戒 as this charming though comedically lazy and helplessly lustful fellow who's just tagging along on the Journey West. This new take on his backstory wasn't only bittersweet, but highly refreshing and respectful. It's a loving rendition to him after approx 500 years. Such a complicated love story, with so many valid interpretations. On the one hand, Bajie turns from pig to man because of his Daoist beliefs and devotion to his master. Chang'e turns from a human into a spider demon because of her pure love/lust for Bajie leading her to a less pure lifestyle and causing her to become a Yaoguai; then, on the other hand, there's just the idea of the celestial court's unfair punishment of Bajie for trying to seduce a Chang'e, where he must endure a 1000 lifetimes of romantic tragedies, where his love and proximity to a Yaoguai would cause Wukong to ultimately find out and kill her and her child (cuz she a demon and he probably doesn't know that Bajie loves her), or the celestial court intervenes and kills her anyway. Because Bajie 'forgot', or was not yet readily aware of his transformation into a boar, he got into quite some troubles in the mortal world. And it was due to the 'filth' and the troubles that Bajie somehow felt 'blindly strolling' in the world, captured by the English translation.
Taking together, in the lyrics (the two sentences above), Bajie's talking about the twisted fortune, and the trouble he's got after being exposed of part of his true nature to the mortal beings (as the punishment), while the spider lady's saying that what she cared about were their romance, but not those nature of Bajie (as she knew those from day one they met). What was in her eyes about Bajie, was something else, that he's being straightforward, frank and never a hypocrite.
Another scene hard to pick up is when they reunioned in the pool, Bajie turned into a boar and the lady turned into a spider. Here's my interpretation.
After they were sure that they recognized each other, Bajie first turned into the huge boar form. In this way, he was saying that: see, I'm not the general in the celestial court anymore. Everyone scolds me for my ''ugliness' looking like a boar now, and how I look actually reflects a part of my true nature, which people spit on.
The lady stunned for a moment and then realized what he meant. She immediately turned into the giant spider form, which was saying that I'm not the maiden in the celestial world anymore either. I knew your nature from day one, yet I fell in love with you as I'm the one who can understand you, embracing your true nature, both the good and bad part of it. I could have not become a spider, but following my heart, I pursued my love in the price of losing her position in the celestial court and even becoming a beast.
These are somehow testified in the later slides that flashed back the lady's life, which suggested what she possibly had experienced from a maiden high above into a spider that consuming flesh.
After they assured the love to each other, the spider lady wished Bajie could stay but he knew he had to leave, as he's in the team to the, wesr (with Wukong). Also, there's deeper reason why he couldn't stay: staying means quitting the team and disobeying the Budhha. Bajie knew the consequence of that, on both him and the spider lady. Therefore he had to leave, and that gave rise to the last scenes in the anime. At last, while she wished that he could stay, he wished she could forget it all. That's why
She said: if you let go, how can you free us from it all.
While he resonated: If you don't let go, how can you free us from it all.
And at last she said:

BTW, there's no romance between the spider and the pig in Journey to the West, which the game is based on. The love story is an adaption of the game.
Another note about the 3 girls. Basing on the game adaption, the lady despising Bajie's could be interpreted as some high-rank in the celestial court, while our heroine here might have a lower rank in the court. The third lady who Bajie first met after turning mortal is Gao Cuilan, someone Bajie married and got along with, yet immediately showed disgusts and fear of Bajie once he exposed his boar form. As a former official in the celestial court, Bajie still remembered spells and could turn into a normal looking guy after first born as a pig in the mortal world. He was in the normal form when he first met Gao Cuilan, as shown in the anime. And he was still normal when they married.

He recognized one of the spider monster was reincarnated by the pink dress lady. The spider monster also recognized Bajie and immediately they fell in love. Seeing the pink dress lady reincarnated and transformed into spider monster to meet Bajie, Bajie's heart transformed from an ugly pig creature to his once handsome self and shed tears. When Wukong destroyed spider monster's cave, Bajie spared spider monsters their lives and went on with Wukong. However, deep down inside him he really wanted to stay with the pink dress girl. In the game he couldn't confess his love for the spider monster nor acknowledged their daughter likely to protect them. The pink dress lady knew about it and when she died in the game she said Bajie you are still stupid like always (implying hiding his desire to be with her) and Bajie stayed silent.

Such a complicated love story, with so many valid interpretations. On the one hand, Bajie turns from pig to man because of his Daoist beliefs and devotion to his master. Chang'e turns from a human into a spider demon because of her pure love/lust for Bajie leading her to a less pure lifestyle and causing her to become a Yaoguai; then, on the other hand, there's just the idea of the celestial court's unfair punishment of Bajie for trying to seduce a Chang'e, where he must endure a 1000 lifetimes of romantic tragedies, where his love and proximity to a Yaoguai would cause Wukong to ultimately find out and kill her and her child (cuz she a demon and he probably doesn't know that Bajie loves her), or the celestial court intervenes and kills her anyway. Either way, Bajie must say no to her every time because he knows that it's the only way to protect her, but she never regrets a single moment, waiting thousands of years for him even though he left, only wanting him to stay even if it hurts her.
