Maybe a year or so ago you made a similar vid about releasing the club head. At that time I was a big flipper of the club with my left wrist cupped at the top of my swing. If I didn't time that correctly my club face at impact was open most of the time and my ball was miles in the air. That video got me practicing on turning my lower body more so I wouldn't have to flip my wrist and I flattened out my left wrist at the top of the back swing.I shave at least 3 strokes off my card because I found the green instead of the thick rough at the club I play at. This is by far the best explanation of the release. Too many people are a chasing a certain position without considering the match up. This is my Ah-Ha moment. Thanks so much Mark, you are the first golf TH-camr I follow and still my favourite 😘

Hi Mark have been struggling to understand how to marry strike and release feelings for years and now it has suddenly clicked and oh my god!
I’ve had loads of lessons with 6 different coaches and I think it’s a area that you pro’s don’t understand why we amateurs don’t understand as you take it for granted! I’ve been searching for a video to reinforce what I’ve been feeling and this one hits the mark perfectly! My theory is that when you first pick up a club you tend to be quite wristy and flicky due to no or little hip rotation as your just trying to hit a little ball with a little blade on the end of a long stick! This leads to a bad habit from the outset which can take years to get rid of !
    Thank You!

I wish I was rich so I could hire you as a coach bc I have not found 1 who explains the game like you. You break it down so for people like me can understand what's happening in the swing. This video is 100% the best explanation of release I have ever seen. I am 1 of those who thought you had to cross your arms at release to get those looks and feels. I am going to practice this tmro. After watching this video now I know half my problem in my swing. Now explain takeaway in this manner lol

  • @mikemoodie

Best explanation ever on release, ie there isn't really a release per se. There may be some hinging of the wrists but the club face stays relatively square to its path. Really cleared this up in my mind. Those still images of the pro's releasing can be quite misleading. Thanks Mark.

The still images of ‘lag’ and a released golf club absolutely destroyed my game. Instead of playing golf i became hell bent on hitting positions. I’m glad people like you started the conversation about functional golf that has match ups and steered away from having to hit every position of a ‘textbook’ swing. My game has improved an unbelievable amount when i started focusing on making a move that hit target with a consistent low point etc

    • @mikeneuburger3989
      @mikeneuburger3989 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Same. I think I actually unlearned how to release the club. Which is terrible considering the release action is kind of a natural thing and the learning comes in with figuring out how to utilize the natural motion properly.

  • @Carsonsimon

At the 3:00 Mark you hit the nail on the head for what I now feel...
I used to have a wildly open clubface into the ball and a big flick at the bottom. That "feel" has made a massive difference to me.
Coming in and through the ball now feels like my lead hand slows and my trail hand overtakes it around the outside...the split hand drill helped get this feeling loads aswell.

Mark, I've been golfing now for probably 5 years, and my scores range mid 80s to 90. I've been so obsessed with trying to make everything look exactly like the pros, when in reality I should have just realized every swing is different. I just subscribed to your videos, you have such an effortless swing. Ive been watching so many videos on the "proper" release, and was trying everything including the "rolling" technique. I cant wait to go out tomorrow to try your split hand drill and try to just feel the release as my body rotates like you show. Thank you very much all the way from Nova Scotia Canada!! Now if I could only stop trying to kill the golf ball lol.

Wow. This blew my mind. Never thought of it this way. I always thought I had to try and flip my hands over just after impact. But in fact a more natural release is just the natural turning of the upper and lower body after impact.

This is the thing I knowingly struggle with the most. I have a tendency to not release soon enough resulting in my club face staying open and shots high and to the right. Had been working on a feeling of flipping the hands a bit but this has resulted in a few low hooks and over draws coming in per round.

Year old and your recent vid is very similar about matching your grip with release. It’s given me confidence to rotate face (not flipping) through with body turn. Excellent video Mark. For years I've been slightly obsessed with 'turning the key' / 'flipping the hands' worried what would happen if I didn't 'turn/flip'? Watching videos of my swing I wasn't doing it however still releasing the club (in my own way). So gave up on trying to swing like most golfers on TV and like you say, found my own way.

It's one part of my swing that raises lots of questions, especially my driver. I feel that I don't have a consistent release pattern with it which, as you explain well, is the result of all the inconsistencies that happen before I get to release. I find it quite challeging to practice release because once you hit a few wild ones, you start to move all sorts of things around to make the ball go straight.

Great video as always Mark, as a lefty playing right handed are you conscious of whether you pull with your left hand to start the downswing and through impact or are pushing with your right hand. Wasn't something that I had ever thought about before until I saw this mentioned a few days ago. You mentioned throwing as a thought in this video which to my mind would suggest a push with the right dominates? Looking to experiment at the range tomorrow as I search for the 30 yards per iron I've lost, was wondering because it's not something I've been conscious of doing, one or the other, if I have unconsciously stopped doing one, if that makes sense? Would love to get your thoughts on this. Cheers Bru.
