This week IS MY FIRST TIME MONITORING KOI POND ORP. we look at WHAT IS ORP AND HOW DOES IT WORK. What the ORP, when measuring water parameters through a 7in1 Kactoily water Monitor. Kactoily very kindly let me have a unit to try and report to you how it works.
Its also TIME FOR A DOSE OF FOK😁* into the pond now the water temps are going up a little..

I'm 75 this year, and when I was your age, I was still doing motorcycle trips to the Alps, Spain, and other European destinations, often with my other half on the back. 😊 I only stopped when we went into Covid lockdown 2020. My joints are now saying "Enough of that".
My 32 year old plastic 3 bay filter has finally given out and will be replaced next week with an Oase Proficlear L. Expensive? Yes. Could I pop my clogs tomorrow? Yes. (Q that Monty Python song) 😂

I’m planning a new pond when we move at 65yrs and part of the plan is how I make it easier for me to maintain as I get older.

Hi Andy,I am 80yrs old now and have been keeping koi for about 40 yrs.I can’t do much myself since having a stroke 4yrs ago,my wife helps and I do what I can to help.Just the basics like water tests and the occasional filter clean I have a multibay with Japanese matting.Never used chemicals.
One thing I appreciate about you is that you never lose sight of any new knowledge because of your own experience. You are always learning and taking in new knowledge to help you better understand your water and your fish.
You've been very humble, which is hard to do, but you've done it， Andy!

I agree with you totally, I'm 65 and starting to think should I close the pond down, and get shot of some of the things we keep but never use , you just never know what around the corner, but then there is enough doom and gloom in the world to stop you thinking about how long you have left....😊
Hey Andy, like you i often reflect on how much time i have left, Back in November i was of work for 2 month with anxiety and depression, which ive suffered for a few years and for me this was a turning point with my Job.
I decided to cut the overtime down from 80+ hours a month down to around 30 and as i look after a section and a number of guys i decided to come off the machines and let the guys take a bit more of the strain.
I now have a better lifestyle i believe where i have more time for me and my family (and fishies) Im lucky as im mortgage free so am a little money richer now a days, but like you say, that time has gone and theres nothing more precious than time.
By the way, we share the same birthday date, although im a few years younger, not many mind lol

Hi Andy, I’m 60 and yes lately started thinking hmm.. 🤔 these koi I have now will most likely outlive me and my belief is you just got to enjoy every day you have. Retirement helped me immensely in enjoying every day to the fullest so don’t be down, instead enjoy every day of the future you have to the fullest! And keep producing great content that makes you think 🤔, makes you laugh 😂 & makes you feel alive 😊.

My ORP seems to have levelled off at 420 though, so I need to try and reduce it a bit.

Hey, Kactoily needs to sort the cheap plugs for UK standard, i was a little dissatisfied it was a typical chinese product also dispatched from China, for some reason i thought it was a European product. Biggest life change for me was limiting my expectations and deep thinking as it got me in a deep depression. For example I'd compare things, think I've got xx years of work, this builds frustration and resentment. I'd always be on the go and struggle to sit and do nothing. Not anymore and I'm happier for it. You can't alter the past or the future so don't worry about it and live in the moment.

Agree about the weather being so up and down. My pond temperature graph is currently up and down like a heart monitor, and I’m sure it doesn’t do the fish any good either!
Blanket weed? Yes it’s already here (noticed it last week). I think we only had 3-4 sunny days. I went out to do the water checks and there it was, wafting its green tentacles around.
To be honest I think we all naturally get to a point when we realise that we are going ‘the other way’.
I’m ‘only’ 41 years old and when I built my pond last September and being the first ‘proper’ manual labour I’ve done for a while, I suddenly realised that I’m not as young, strong and fit as I used to be 😂

I have always felt time was much more valuable than money. As a result, I have always resisted working overtime or on my days off. I am 64 now, but I feel you at 56 are more likely to have another 30 years or more, not 20. 50 is the new 40 😊 Great video as always, and I’m off to read about ORP 🙂

Hey Andy great video mate 👍🏻I treated my pond with cloverleaf a few weeks ago but I have been using a barley straw bail to tackle blanketweed can’t recommend it enough change the bale every 3 months bits really has done the job👍🏻 I’ll show you a picture next time you up the shop mate keep up the good work 20 more seasons of koi pond life style you still be going strong mate the the great videos you do 👍🏻
Hiya, thanks for that. I tried barley straw a few years ago in the old pond but found it took ages to work and the the bag I used rotted first..😆😆. I might give it another go with the new pond though? 🤔👍
On the clear plastic tubs you can fix the measure to the underside with clear silicone, I used a 1 metre steel rule i had lying about but an old retractable tape will do the job

BTW I got the Kactoily 7 wireless for Christmas, sensor fitted in my EZpod and it's been good until the last week or so, the ORP reading has gone to pot, reading - negative, sensor had some green weed around it, cleaned off, now waiting to see if it resets/stabilizes/goes back to normal.

Hope your aches and pains have gone from your trip up the mountain..but what the fok are you on about think of today not tomorrow,next week or month or year because life can sometimes be just a flip of a coin 👍 that's how quick it can happen enjoy what you enjoy doing today because we might not get a tomorrow 👍

Hi again just done tap water for KH it's 7 . Think i may have made a slight mistake with the test on pond water because on reading instructions again apparently i should have used every drop including first in calculation so my pond would have been 8 and not 7, thanks again for your help and time 🧓 Gwen
Hi 👋, as I've just started doing my own water tests was wondering if you could answer a question for me please, my Kh is 7, PH 7 and GH 8 are these at a good level, i understand the chlorine chlorine and ammonia the others I'm not so sure about thank you.🧓 Gwen
Hiya, you PH is good at the neutral level of 7. Mine is 7.6. That Ph level should stay consistent so the fish don't experience changes. Your KH is ok and should be between 4 and 6. Have you checked your tap water so you know what your putting onto the pond. Check for PH and KH. Eg my tap water KH is 8-9 and my Ph is 7.6.. I don't test for GH..😉👍
Thanks for that, haven't done tap water but will get on to that, I do know I'm in a hard water area of Stoke on Trent, get lot's of lime scale in kettle.
