Thanks Johnny, I'd hoped it would be quite fluent by now with there being a couple of English fish in there but clearly not😒 the easiest way to understand it buddy, which I don't think I got over very clearly, is WATER QUALITY can be looked at as your parameters, WATER HEALTH can be viewed as your ORP level. As this relates to pollutants in the water and O2 holding capability 🙂

Cheers bud. in my case, in a 2100 gallon pond, the unit itself wasn't the difference maker. Its output is so small that if it's put onto a pond of any real volume, with water that is heavy in organics, then people learn that it won't change much. It's designed to go on a system already that is already functioning efficiently, As is any Ozone unit. The big difference maker is aeration, flow and filtration efficiency. Tweaking these in my system took my ORP from 170mV to over 200, about 220-230 I think it was. Once I was in that region, the Ozone then was fitted and took it up to where I am now.👍 What I wanted to get across in that section more than anything was to manage people's expectations and for them to not expect miracles, the system must be working efficiently first and foremost to get the most out of it🙂
@UpNorthKoiPond and that's exactly it. it's all about use case. For me in such a small over stocked environment it has been a real boost. Not the silver bullet but a very good addition to a good setup. For alot of people the water clairty is the most important part and i cna understand that, you spend 100s on fish you want to see them in the best clairty. Hopefully one day I'll have a decent size pond like yours again👍

Hi Peter. I've not had any issues with parasites for a while now, but that stems prior to the Ozone unit. You will still encounter parasitic issues even with an Ozone unit installed, especially one of these units as the dosage is so small. The larger 2,3,4,5 gram Ozone units you can buy will have a much larger effect, but it's more to do with the overall quality of the water to keeping parasites & secondary issues at bay.
Well covered Simon, some useful info given. Only just looking in to mV, advocate of PP but never used it measuring redox even though the best thing to do. Not used PP for 2 seasons now but no doubt will one day. ORP in relation to water quality is another matter all together, i hope people jumping in on this know what they're doing! After only a day of playing with the mult use water quality pen I found out about the reactions with substances such as salt 😂 thought my pen was faulty. People could easily change things when its a reaction, in a nutshell its mV is rendered useless if you have salt in the pond so people need to understand specific uses first before going down the ozone use. That said i would assume with the ozone unit they aren't so effective that really high levels can be achieved if say you leave it on 24/7, or use ozone with salt in the pond so aren't getting a true reading. Just my early thought m8.
Thanks, to be perfectly honest I never used to use a redox meter when treating with PP, but now that I've used one WHILST treating with PP, my conclusion is that a redox meter is a must. They tell you so much about the reaction going on and just because the colour is purple, it doesn't necessarily mean that the PP is at an adequate level to do what it has been put in the pond to do. And also due to every pond having different contamination levels, the packet dose may or may not be the correct amount, it may take less to achieve the right level, it might take more. And your absolutely right about salt, it changes everything. As it does with TDS levels, also is true for ORP levels, and yes highly unlikely to overdose with Ozone with these units, but also unlikely to make any difference to the health of the water if the water isn't particularly good to begin with😊
Hi, My pond is 2000 gallons just over. In regards to the ORP of the water, start by maximising as much bio filtration, oxygen and flow as possible. Once this is optimal, you can play with how long you have the unit on for if you wish👍
It's going to vary from pond to pond in how long the effects, if any begin to show. As every pond is different in stocking densities and pollution, the rate at which it makes an impact can be vast. If your pond environment creates pollution quicker than the unit can oxidise those pollutions, then you will notice very little difference, so that's why I say that the filtration system MUST be at its upmost efficiency in order for it to create any impact. hope that helps

@sandrabusby8178 it's the reason why proper generators have an adjustable dosing dial, so you can adjust it to suit the pond situation. Whereas these units produce a set amount, which is very little, hence why they don't require an ORP controller. What was the ORP before the unit was installed? Pond size and stock? (Average size & numbers) what filtration set up do you have?
Hi Si I like your uploads. Felt your pain in the past. I’ve got the same ozone unit as you which puts out 500mg of ozone per hour . A couple of questions if you don’t mind . What’s the volume of your pond? How many hours out of 24 do you run it ? How do you introduce the ozone it to the water?
@gamerguy4678 hi, my pond is 10,000 litres and the unit is only on after periods of heavy feeding to reduce staining of the water. The actual impact it has on the ORP level is minimal even when run for long periods, this is down to the very low dosage of the unit. So really it's only particularly helpful for burning tannings from my water due to the volume, stock and feed levels. Any other requirement for introducing higher ORP levels would require a dedicated Ozone system that produces 2 grams plus per hour, which then gets rather expensive due to the equipment and monitoring apparatus needed.
Thanks. The airline on the outlet of the unit is Polyethylene tubing from B&Q. Although Polyethylene isn't the most Ozone resistant material, at the dosage this unit produces, it shouldn't cause any issues long term. I'm still trying out various things to get it running optimal, switching between bottom drain air and air diffuser to see which produces the best results, if any.👍

@beedonskoi5101 probably not if I'm honest. There's already plenty out there and they're pretty fool proof to install as long as you use the correct materials that Ozone won't eat through rapidly even in low dosages.
Well done Si. Very informative. I've read a few things on Ozone and ORP now and I find it all very interesting. I'm still waiting for my unit and I'm trying to decide if it's better to introduce the Ozone enriched air directly to the pond or have it in a separate area that the water is passing through, thereby minimising the direct contact that the fish have with Ozone enriched air. Perhaps that is a test for me to carry out... Hmmm
Hi Andrew. It's going to depend on a pond by pond basis. Size of the pond, stock and the amount of organics in the system. This is why you need an ORP meter, without it you don't know what level you are starting from or where you are taking it to. Once you know where you are at, you can play and make alterations accordingly.
I have an Orp meter and doing 2 hours on and 1 hour off, I haven't seen much of a difference. 3000 gallons and fairly heavily stocked. Currently heated to 20C.

Putting one of these Ozone units on to a system that is already struggling in the overall water health is pretty much pointless, especially in 3000 gallons. You need to look at your filtration system compared to your stock, get lots more air in the pond and find a way to improve flow efficiency without comprising retention in the bio. My suggestion to you would be to contact Stu at Oaki Koi and have an in depth conversation with him about it. You'll find him on Facebook, or email him🙂👍
Hi Simon, can you please tell me what 0RP calibration fluid do you use? We bought one and it only had a 10 day shelf life! Yours looks like a Hanna one, but I can’t find that on the Internet .Also, thanks for this video. It was very helpful.
Hi Simon, We ordered one of these and we are having similar problems with the numbers jumping. We tried swapping the plug with an Apple iPhone one, but it's the same. Can you tell me which plug worked for you? Thanks so much!
@sandrabusby8178 yes. Mine is a Samsung quick charger if it makes any difference. The ones supplied aren't great tbh, or at least a batch of them wasn't. I think they may have replaced them now.

Thanks Mike, 100% buddy. In a lot of cases the packet dose doesn't even come close to getting it to the level required. It's assumed that because the water is purple it's doing its job, but it's not the case.

You mean on the the Kactoily monitor? If so mine is a Samsung plug used on the probe.
