Rhaenys riding Meleys The Red Queen spoiled Aegon's Coronation and flew Dragonstone to warn Queen Rhaenyra of the situation.
Meleys The Red Queen spared the lives of King Aegon II & his whole family in House of the Dragon
Princess Rhaenys while imprisoned by Queen Alicent Hightower, escaped and approached with her dragon Meleys. She could have roasted the entire family of Otto Hightower, Aemond Targaryen, Helena Targaryen, but she spared their lives by a gesture of mercy and a warning.
Meleys, nicknamed the Red Queen, is a she-dragon ridden by Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. Covered in scarlet scales, she has accents of bright copper. It is her unique coloring for which she received her nickname. In her youth, she is said to have outpaced even Caraxes and Vhagar.

Impenetrable magic walls that stand firmer even than harrenhal. Aemond had it good. Baratheon baddie, biggest living dragon in the world, would’ve possibly inherited storms end for himself. Threw it all away because he thought Godzilla was a toy. I actually wish they all would’ve just gotten along😭😭 I won’t lie the kids are so nice but them being bastards, rhanerya really set them up for failure despite being a good mother
At 0:18 if you look closely you can see Vhagar coiled around the wall, and the spokes of her wings sticking up further to the right. Really great detail, glad the VFX artists didn't cheat there lol

Vhagar's skull is located in the basement of the Red Keep in King's Landing, where it was ordered to be moved by Robert Baratheon after his accession. Tyrion Lannister, who saw this skull, said that a rider on a horse could ride into the throat of Vhagar. You don't even have to panic about this monster when season 2 comes out, we'll see.

It's refreshing to go from the disaster of the Long Night to this piece of beautiful cinematography. The way Vhagar announces herself is sublime, 11/10. The only flaw in this scene is that the cuts are too abrupt, almost certainly because the CGI budget keeps the shots of the dragons extremely short. A slightly more lingering view would be better.

God Vhagar sounds like an absolute unit in this scene. Hard nope the F outta there.
I believe that in Old Valyria other big house maybe, just maybe had 1 or 2 dragons bigger than Balerion, but with how big dragons are, I really believe other big houses had more dragons, not just bigger ones. This is what their power was.
Well, the Targaryens had 20 dragons by the time of the Dance. There were 40 dragon rider families in Valyria. If every house had 20 dragons, there would have been around 800 dragons in the Freehold. At some point, having more WMD's doesn't quite make the difference anymore as there are already enough to decimate everything (a real time example: nuclear warheads).
Valyria gained its territory with fire and blood. But it's governance was more peaceful. It was not an empire, nor a kingdom. In our world, we'll see that kind of governance as a aristocracy. 40 powerful families who governed together, on a somewhat equal footing.
This is what makes Valyria so interesting, because they were more 'advanced' in everything, even in their governing system. But the great drawback is that Valyria was built upon the backs of slaves and with death, destruction and suffering, while the dragonlords played their games and washed their hands in innocence. It's quite comparable to what is happening in WW1: the German emperor was indulging himself at feasts, while millions of soldiers died in his ' Frisher Froliger Krieg'.
Although not much is known about the feuds of the dragonlords, internally the dragons may have acted as WMD's: creating a stalemate. To have dragons just means being one of the forty. I don't think that the more powerful houses had more dragons per se. Their power base probably was dependent on other things, like wealth, political influence , knowledge, heritance, magic.
The dragonlords also seemed to work together quite well. In the second spice war the Valyirans attacked the great Rhoynish army (some 250.000 strong) with three hundred dragons and decimated them. I hope we'll get to see this in the series at some point. What a sight this would be.

The Roman Empire didn't come to a cataclysmic end though and it didn't rely on WMD's (dragons) to enforce its expansion or keep its borders. It relied upon a well organized army and state. Just like the Valyrians, Romans were more advanced in everything: architecture, politics, science and law.
The key to enforcing borders and is to make sure that the people that live at the borders of your realm don't have a need for independence.
For example: the romans actually allowed the Egyptians and Syrians to enforce certain local laws instead of it's Roman law equivalent (not all laws though).

@@nandolorris4960 did the Baratheons do something to Luke? No. So clearly there was no danger, she couldn’t predict Aemond was gonna be there. She sent Luke because Storm’s end was closer to Dragonstone than the Eyrie and Winterfell, there was nothing to fear, Aemond being there was the only issue

He was just a kid following his mom’s and Queen’s orders :( had he been a little older, he would’ve assessed the situation as risky and returned to report accordingly to his mom. But I heard somewhere that in the books Lucerys arrives first. But I kind of like how the show runners changed it this way as it really shows his naïveté and emphasizes how young he was. Made a much bigger impact from us viewers especially seeing all of the “he should’ve turned back” comments. Ya he should’ve… but he was 13, he didn’t know any better.

In the book Vhagar let out a terrifying roar that shook Storms end when she sensed arrax flying in....so aemond did reach first....
Lucerys mistake was left the castle. He could have used the excuse of the weather and asked Boros to let him stay until the rain was over when he could have easily escaped Vhagar on a fast and small dragon like Arrax. Boros had already said that he didn't wanted bloodshed beneath his roof so Luke wouldn't have been killed. Also Rhaenyra was a idiot. She should have sent Rhaenys with Meleys instead of Luke. Rhaenys was Boros cousin, had far more experience in diplomacy and Aemond would have think twice before challenging a dragon that was said to be capable to face Vhagar in a 1x1.
The thing is most of us know the fate of Lucerys, and when Isaw Vhagar just fly away boy.
This scene is a disturbing and tragic example of wrong place at the wrong time.

Queen Alysanne actually did. She was the rider of Silverwing. You will see her in season 2. Silverwing is reported to refuse to cross the wall and hiss at the cold winds coming from behind it. Alysanne tried to fly over it 3 times. I think dragons might not be able to cross the wall.
I could have been Vhagar's voice actor because I burp in a rather scary way that resembles a dragon's scream.
I would’ve went back to dragonstone and have them send a raven. Because who in their right mind would want to go toe to toe with meemaw Vhagar…not me!

What I find strange is how Lucerys didn't see Vharga from the sky as he was landing... I mean its not as if the dragon is small or anything. After Balerion the dread Vharga is the next biggest.
Rain in the eyes and air, and Vaghar looks more like a mountain than a dragon I guess.
@@kedrednael yes but a dragon doesn't sit totally still and when Lucerys got off Arrexs, Vharge was moving about. This reminds me of the terrible season 8 of GOT where in episode 3 Deanerys is on Drogan high in the sky and she fails to spot Euron Grayjoys's Fleet of ships and her other dragon gets killed.
@@Loner-Wolf It really isn't as bad. His mother stressed this was just a little trip to deliver a message, no worries. He wasn't thinking about other dragons. Here there was a big storm. Seriously you should hold your head outside a car window during a thunderstorm on the highway. It's hard to see things then. Lucerys was inexperienced and focusing on landing in difficult conditions. As a pilot myself, all I could think about during the arrival scene was safely landing the dragon, I was already impressed he found the castle in the storm.
Danaerys however was stressed that the Greyjoy fleet was their main opponent. She was an adult with the burning desire to conquer them. It was nice weather with good visibility. She was a more experienced dragon rider. Ships are extremely easy to spot in the sea.
Then suddenly she was within ballista range, and they immediately hit multiple times with their first shots from super far, even though they miss all shots after that, from much closer range.
That was only done for stupid reasons: To give a false idea that Deanerys was in danger from ballista's. And to give us a cheap 'cool looking' jump scare of a dragon dying. And the writers didn't know what to do with the second dragon (better option: kill it in kings landing to give Danny an extra reason to snap there. Then it also makes sense that Danny attacks Kings landing with her dragon, even though there are a hundred scorpion ballista's there).
But I do understand it reminds you of season 8.
What I found weirder is that Vaghar was able to find Arrax twice in/ near the thunderstorm. That's a bit unrealistic.

@@kedrednael on the contrary no need to apologise for the lengthy view point you express and I suppose I am being a bit harsh in my analysis. I guess landing a dragon in rain and high winds, especially when nothing is covering you can be difficult and you attention would be on that rather than noticing a large beast. Actually when my attention has been focused so precisely on something I sometimes fail to notice a person standing right next to me. Anyway I also agree with your point about the writers of GOT who had dumbed down thing so badly by season 7 that season 8 was like brain dead zombies.
Your point about Vharga finding Lucerys and Arrexs I think can be answered by taking account that Vharga is a dragon almost about 200 hundred years old. She is a veteran of navigation and hunting in the severest of conditions. Not to mention she is battle hardened and flew with Queen Visenya on her back during Aagon's conquest. So for Vharga find a smaller inexperienced dragon like Arrexs in rain and storm is all in s days work.

How did Luke not see vhagar as he was landing on storms end? She is literally impossible to miss Due to her size. And from the angle that Luke was flying down, he would’ve definitely noticed Vhagar parked next to the castle from above. Arrax for sure would’ve sensed her. 🤦♂️
