I'm beginning to notice just how smart Aemond and Aegon were during this scene. When questioned by Viserys, Aemond obviously lies, redirecting the blame to Aegon. He knew there wasn't much the king would do to him so guaranteed immunity. Also Aegon generalizing his answer, 'everybody knows,' brilliant stuff. Everybody really did know, I mean, Rhaenyra didn't even try. His response was honestly such a checkmate.
both brothers instantly knew what viserys was doing too-he wanted them to throw alicent under the bus by naming her as the source of the "hearsay" to flip the table on her and probably punish her instead (or worse, get rid of her).
"Rhaenyra didn't even try" it's not her fault the kids looked more like their father than her. She had to have heirs and it's unfair to expect her to remain celibate and childless her whole life.

@@galahad1876 it’s pretty on brand for viserys to say something kinda dumb and Insensitive like that and it’s been made clear that he doesn’t care very much about his and alicents children
This is the one moment Alicent was 100% valid and right about this situation. Not the eye for an eye, but sticking up for her son when even Viserys wouldn’t.
Viserys didn’t do the thing he was supposed to (which is execute both green boys for treason), an eye is nothing compared to saving his life. Alicent is just too braindead to understand the gravity of the situation because she’s delusional.
In the book “a knight of the seven kingdom” Duncan says sharply questioned means torture. Rhanerya says Aemond must be sharply questioned at 0:10 and his reaction gets me every time
They don't hold that meaning in the scene though. Because even Alicent isn't that concerned when it's brought up. Like nobody in the room reacted as if Thae asked her brother to be tortured because it wasn't that at all.
one character saying something one time, in a time period that takes place after the dance of the dragons doesn't mean Rhaenyra was saying Aemond should be tortured. She just means questioned, she isn't saying her brother should be tortured.
Season 1 Alicent: Defends her children tooth and nail no matter the cost. Loves them in her own complicated way. The council meetings for team green are great. The dialogue, tension, and action really makes it interesting. I wish they would have done the same for team black. I find Rhaenyras council meetings to be lacking. Everyone just seems confused about what the next step is on team black

Viserys sucks. Good man, terrible father, weak king.
Everyone states the obvious which is "well even if she's right you still can't demand for a child's eye" but misses the POINT, which is that she never would've been pushed to that point if Viserys had showed concern for his son and given Luke a SUITABLE punishment. His weakness, coupled with his clear indifference to his second family, made Alicent absolutely lose it. This is the result of years of neglect, not just one incident. Add to all of this the fact that these kids were forced on Alicent, by Otto and by VISERYS, who got married to a young girl to strengthen his line of succession (and ruined her life in the process) then when she gave him everything he wanted (a son) he ended up treating them like an expendable second family.
"Given luke a suitable punishment" Aemond literally pulled out a knife and could have killed the kids after stealing vhagar (the dragon of the dead mother which adds further insult to injury). Watch the scene where Aemond escalates the fight. Suitable punishment? Imagine trying to give Arya and the starks "suitable punishment" because of the harm done to joffrey, but completely disregarding joffreys fault in the whole situation. Come on dude
Aegon and Aemond were unitedly protecting this woman who betrayed them in the end. You see how Aemond deflects the focus on Alicent to Aegon as he knows the repercussions would be none on a Targaryen Prince (a 12 year old boy) as opposed to the Hightower queen. And Aegon, how he has been portrayed as this dumb, gullible grown man child, was quick on his wits here. His answer was genius honestly. The way he floored Viserys and Rhaenyra seemed distraught.
i think a lot of people watch this and think that Cole was going to cut out Luke's eye, but he actually refuses her. When she orders him to do it and reminds him that he's her sworn shield, he just reminds her that he's just her protector. I think it's interesting because despite Cole willingness to do anything for his Queen, he refuses her this.
I think it speaks to how Alicent and Criston's friendship and bond is based around decency and good prevailing and holding each other accountable. She made him watch his language, he holds back because he knows that this isn't her, she'll regret violence done in her name when she's free from the horrors of the moment.

@@DAFR2849nope. During her most incredible moments. She was such a tragic yet fierce character. You probably prefer her simping over precious RhaeRhae
She always had in the back of her mind what Otto said to her as a young mother. If rhaenyra rules, her children will be put to the sword. She carry’s fear and viserys neglecting his own children didn’t help
I feel like this scene truly showed Alicent that her & her kids were just the consolation prizes. Rhaenyra was the child he actually loved & really raised. She was definitely jealous of Rhaenyra and I don't blame her. Alicent had to marry an old man and be forced to be sexual with him and just grin and bear it and Rhaenyra got to do whatever (and whoever) she wanted and Alicent was made the bad guy for pointing it out.
The end of that scene between Rhaenyra and Alicent actually made me cry. They were friends tried to make amends and now will meet on opposite sides of a battlefield.
“Exhausting isn’t it?”.... I know that a lot of people noticed how brilliant the writing was for this particular scene. Rhaenyra was obviously gaslighting Alicent with those remarks. It’s true though what Alicent complained. She was abiding to her duties as a queen while Rhaenyra has been dodging the consequences of her bad actions by using her father’s affection
It depends on your psyche. To me "lost an eye and even to that you are entitled" really highlighted how spoiled Rennie was, shielding her sins, gaslighting others
I really would've preferred if they previously used the line Rhaenyra says "He must be Sharply Questioned" because the general viewer might not even know that it means torture. It would've made Alicent's actions here even more justifiable, seeing as how Rhaenyra wanted Aemond to be tortured despite the fact that the kid just lost his eye 💀
Rhaenyra was never that blood thirsty towards the greens in the beginning. It would've been inaccurate portrayal of her character. She only truly spirals when the greens (get💀) Luke and ageon decide to throw a feast to celebrate.
@Chasingdreams25 Show Alicent is responsible for much more deaths in the show than in the book, the Dyana scene in the show is a show only invention, the scene where Rhaenyra walks with her child immediately after giving birth is also a show only invention. So what exactly was being whitewashed.
@@Groovybihahow so? Rhaenyra seems to use her position better to get some kind of freedom as a woman in that world, does she arrogantly or blindly play with it? Yes. But I don't see how alicent isn't self righteous, just because she's a even bigger victim of the patriarchal society, doesn't mean she isn't self righteous or handling her anger the wrong way. She's jealous and spiteful towards rhaenyra not suffering the same way as she does, but she, just like cersei, still goes along with patriarchy in her own way. (obviously she never had the options rhaenyra did, but they're both finding their own wrong way of dealing with those problems)
@@FlowerTrollSan if the opposite of it would lead to the killing of her children out of a wedlock, then I can't see how Alicent wouldn't have done the same: protect her children
I dont blame Alicent one bit. Viserys was the problem, he valued Rhaenyra's children over his own sons even tho Rhanyra's were obvious bastards. Alicent was faithful AND caring to his old decaying self till death and he didn't value her or her children.
@@asimhussain8716 I have the complete opposite opinion. Older Alicent is like an entirely different person. Rhaenyra feels more like the logical grown up version of her younger counterpart.
"Sharply questioned" means to torture someone, Rhaenyra not only didnt feel for her half-blinded half-brother, but also wanted him tortured on top of it, wonderful sister 😊

Aegon’s the only one to openly imply the Strong boys are bastards in front of Rhaenyra and Viserys that walked out of that interaction physically intact.
Notice how Aemond looks at Allicent just before he names Aegon? It is highly possible that Allicent was the one who talked about it to him and he knew better than to blame his mother. Aegon would not be punished as severly as Allicent would.
@danika9411 I think he does care for his other children, but he has a clear favourite because of the love and guilt of his first wife. Rhaenyra reflects her mother, his late wife. So that places her in higher regard than his other children.
Ask yourself, if you where in Aemond's shoes would you refrain from retaliating when one has been attacked or insulted. Think about it, losing an eye is not something you would forget.

Agreed! Amazing scene

Yup!

People who speak mockingly of Me, but in a way that other people do not notice, will die immediately (they will die in spirit, body, and soul). Those who oppress or treat My beloved with coldness will immediately be judged by My wrath. This means, those who are jealous of My loved ones, and think that I am not righteous, will be passed over to be judged by My beloved.
ALL who are well-mannered, SIMPLE, and HONEST (including those who lack wisdom), and deal with Me with STRONG LOYALTY, WILL ALL REMAIN in My KINGDOM. 🙏
Those who have NOT PASSED the TRAINING--that is, those HONEST PEOPLE who lack WISDOM and UNDERSTANDING--will HAVE POWER in My KINGDOM. ☀️
However, they also WENT through dealing and breaking. That THEY DID NOT GO THROUGH TRAINING is NOT COMPLETE. Instead, it is THROUGH these THINGS that I WILL SHOW ALL MY ALMIGHTYNESS and MY WISDOM. I will kick out those who still doubt Me; I don't want any of them (I hate people who still doubt Me at a time like this).
THROUGH THE WORKS I AM DOING IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE, I WILL SHOW FAITHFUL PEOPLE the WONDERFULness of My WORKS, thereby increasing their WISDOM, UNDERSTANDING, and understanding. ☀️
I will also cause deceitful people to be destroyed in an instant as a result of My wonderful works. Not only is their half sister completely unremorseful about the incident but she wants Aemond to be 'sharply' questioned over speaking mere facts?? This is the moment the two brothers started seeing sense in Alicent's paranoia. Nobody ever cared for them so the greens decided right there and then to stick together.
And for those that don't know, sharply questioned means torture in GRR Martin speak. He uses it multiple times in the books.
Aemond’s slanders are a direct threat to Rhaenyra and the kids, they could be executed for it, Lord Lyonel literally said this to Harwin, so if anything, it makes perfect sense that Rhaenyra would use sharply questioned as a threat back. Her and her kids’ lives are on the line. She’s fighting for them as you would fight for your own kids and as Alicent would fight for hers.
@@CaptainPikeachu You see, your argument holds no ground here cause Rhaenyra is the one that drew attention to her sons claim in this scene. @@mellemadswoestenburg1296 yeah ik that's why I hate how they character assainated her
In addition to her son being maimed, Alicent’s real beef with Rhaenyra is that she has constantly flouted their society’s expectations for women and gotten away with it for years. Meanwhile, Alicent has been everything a true lady and queen should be, yet it’s gotten her no real power or guaranteed the future of her children. Whatever issues they have with each other - and there’s hardly a shortage - the larger point being made here is that strong-minded women can never truly win as long as society doesn’t accept them.
#Hallows4 You are exactly right. Rhaenyra never wanted a life of servitude and she sought freedom from that by taking lovers which was frowned upon. Not sure if you were referring to Alicent or Rhaenyra as strong -minded
@@2Duv4Luv They are both very strong minded, make no mistake about that. What neither of them realized in time is how far those around them were willing to go to secure their own power. Rhaenyra felt utterly devastated and betrayed when Aegon was crowned behind her back, and even though Alicent backed her son to the hilt, she was genuinely disgusted when the Small Council plotted to assassinate Rhaenyra. A father shouldn't be biased towards any of his children
Notice how Aemond looks at Allicent just before he names Aegon? It is highly possible that Allicent was the one who talked about it to him and he knew better than to blame his mother. Aegon would not be punished as severly as Allicent would.
Yup I saw that the 1st time I watched and found it brilliant. Especially since she was just complaining about it no more than 1 episode earlier!
I hate Rhaenyra here. Alicent was made to feel like she was insane for being upset that her son had HIS EYE GOUGED OUT
the gaslighting Alicent experienced in this scene was ridiculous
Even Emma Darcy who play Rhaenyra was on Alicent's side on this scene, that says a lot
I hate Rhaenyra period
Wait until season 2, you'll hate her more
Rhaenyra is also trying to stop her children being killed for having the wrong dad. She did what she had to do.
Viserys loved Rhaenyra and her kids more than his sons and daughter from Alicent.
Viserys made it known he loved rhaenyra more, its combination of guilt and love for his first wife. He ONLY remarried to strengthen his bloodline
@@theeviperx And then doesn't actually care for his children with her.
@danika9411 I think he does care for his other children, but he has a clear favourite because of the love and guilt of his first wife. Rhaenyra reflects her mother, his late wife. So that places her in higher regard than his other children.
Oh well 😂😂
its because Rhaenyra resembles her mother Aema❤
Rest in peace book Alicent
Ask yourself, if you where in Aemond's shoes would you refrain from retaliating when one has been attacked or insulted. Think about it, losing an eye is not something you would forget.
And defending yourself from being hit in the head with a rock?
That's wrong ain't it?
@@thomasbullinsmaybe don’t attack people
@@thomasbullins If I was being attacked by 4 people, a rock is the least I get to defend myself from.
For those who have no clue of the event. Aemond didn't throw the first punch, the girl did, and it's four against one, but one of them has a knife, what would you do? Picking up the rock, or be defenseless.
@@thomasbullins Aemond was attacked and everything he did after that was self-defense in fact he never uses the rock he just threatens with it.

Team Black ignores this epic, *_BASED_* delivery in favor of Rhaenyra’s goofy, *_baseLESS_* attack - calling Allicent “fake”🙄.

Bro, you absolutely nailed it. I enjoy Rhaenyra’s characters but she did not eat here😂. Allicent’s words were all of it.
@@marcanderson4465exactly! Like, you can be Team Black b/c you like individuals, but acting like Rhaenyra was *_EVER_* in the right & just force-feeding the idea that Allicent was always shady & trifling the whole time is just absurd.
Dude, i felt like i was in the Twilight Zone with these #TeamBlack folk😅

"Aemond look at me" is diabolical
I’m repulsed what the writers have done to Alicent. She’s been absolutely butchered. Shame on them all
An apology for an eye isn’t fair😂😂😂
I mean there wasn't any apology to begin with😂
Don't worry. Aemond took his due
@user-tc5fv4cg8i He shouldnt have lost an eye for claiming the dragon. It was wrongfully taken and had nothing to do with the dragon.
What apology? It was nothing for an eye
