Right, like any other studio recording, there are separate layers recorded to form the complete song. The live performances will sound slightly different than the studio recordings because they don't have those layers, but use a looper occasionally, that they set up before the song.
This was done with the encouragement of original Boyz II Men member Shawn Stockman who had been a judge on the Sing Off which they competed on when it was on NBC. All the guys are extremely talented, Tim Foust the bass, has a 5 octave range and can sing up in the tenor range too. Adam Chance the guy with the beard in the back has an amazing voice and picks up the bass when Tim sings lead and has a beautiful warm lead voice of his own and naturally falls more in the baritone. Take Me Home Country Roads might be a good song to introduce you to all of their voices as a lead.
I'm not sure if you meant "instrumentals" as actual instruments or their voices. Just wanted to let you know that Home Free never uses instruments or background music tracks. Occasionally they use a looper if they need two things done at once by the beatboxer, etc. Also for claps sometimes as in this song. They often use a piano or guitar in their solo projects and they've used instruments in a few of their collaborations with other artists, but when they do, it's out in the open. 👍😉🎶
These guys do an amazing job of this song! They can do any genre including R&B. Rob's voice has so much feeling & soul in it. Austin adding his higher tones, Chance harmonizing in the back, Tim adding some bass & Adam with his fabulous vocal percussion. These guys are my favorite a cappella group out there. All their songs are good whether it is serious, heart warming or funny.
When they were on the NBC show the Sing Off (they won in 2013) Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men was a judge and he loved them. I think they wanted to do right by him. It’s such a good rendition. They can really bring it. Blue Ain’t Your Color, Castle on the Hill. Good reaction!😃
To hear Austin get up there you should react to "When A Man Loves A Woman" (Percy Sledge/Michael Bolton) cover. Austin slays it. Thanks for continuing with Home Free!
I love Boyz II Men and have played End of the Road so many times. I never thought I'd ever like a cover of this song. But Home Free managed to do it, while maintaining the respect for the original. How wonderfully sung by all! But for me it is mainly Rob who nailed it. What a great voice with so much soul in it. He touches me deep inside. Of course it is the combination of the other leads, fantastic harmony, bone-feeling bassline and the inhuman vocal percussion that makes it complete.
Hi DB - Really enjoyed your reaction, breakdown of the vocals, and appreciation of their interpretation of this song. I would like to recommend the "Butts Medley" for a taste of country/rock/rap!😀
I would love to hear you react to their song - Moonshine - it would be probably your first reaction...not that many people have seen it...don't really understand why...it is so good! Let's help them make that song more popular 🥰
We're all happy to see you jumping into this group. They won't disappoint. I am surprised how fast you responded. It's great. I guess they know how to market since they aren't on a label(thankfully).
TIM FOUST, the bass, has a 5 octave range! He can sing tenor as well as he does bass! He is also a terrific songwriter, and has written several songs that HOMEFREE has recorded! Oh, by the way, they do NOT have a lead singer. Each singer can sing lead on any song that calls for their particular type of voice! I love them all; BUT Tim is my favorite! Thanks for a great reaction!
One thing I love about this is how Rob, the bearded dude with the glasses, pulls out his gosple roots and brings the end of the the song "to church" near the end of the song. "NO! I can't let it go BABY!!!"
Hey Darrnell! Check these two out from Home Free. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Home Free: Drum Solo [SPM ST15]. Then the next one is Home Free - 9 to 5 + Beatboxing Breakdown, October 27, 2015. Have a good one!
I enjoyed your reaction. To hear more from the bass, (who can go up to tenor as well),Tim Foust, check out the song they just released on Friday, Whats left of my heart. It is an original written by Tim Foust. He is from Texas, so definitely has that country sound. Austin, the high tenor has a Georgia drawl. Rob, (glasses) tenor is from Mineapolis, no southern drawl. The beatboxer is Adam Rupp, also from Minnesota. And the 5th member, Adam Chance, known as Chance, is from Alabama. He can sing baritone, bass and probably anything else.
I love how you are checking them out even though Country isn't usually your thing. Have you heard VoicePlay? They tend to do more rock style songs. Subscribing to see you discover more.
I'll explain more than the others... It is all vocal, but it is produced. There are multiple vocal tracks. Usually, their recorded music videos have multi tracks (sometimes doubling a certain part to enhance it, or in this case they did their own "background vocal instrumental track".) They had multitracks in "Man of Constant Sorrow" as well. During live performances, they (run by Adam Rupp, the beat boxer on stage) use a looper. There are several online vids of them singing "Man of Constant Sorrow." Don't let any Home Fries get you down. Great reaction! Thanks for taking my recommendation!
You want to see Tim's range.... Check out the country song Mayday by the artist Cam... then watch Home Free's cover. And if you want to see my favorite song for their beatboxer.... it's their Sea Shanty Medley
Loving your reactions to Home Free 😊Would love to watch you react to a new drop from them, the cover of Rick Astley's, Never going to give you up......If you haven't seen Rick Astley's video, please watch that one first, then you will see the clear references to the original, and Home Free, took a somewhat comedic version, which is not only amazing singing, but really fun to watch!!!
I don't know if I already told you but you need to check out Adam rupp drum solo and that will show you they do not use any instruments at all every single sound comes from Adam or one of the other guys.its totally Awesome. Now that said I do know that they use a looping machine where they make certain sounds for a song and play that while they sing the song but totally no instruments. But each one of them have their own you tube channel and in those they do use instruments. They just have a lot great stuff out there in my book they are better than penitonix but that's my opinion. God bless
All of these guys have incredible ranges but there is no instrumentation other than their layered voices. If you'd ever heard them live you'd know if there's an actual instrument involved then you'll see it.
Here are some suggestions: Not necessarily in order, but save Mayday for a few songs. Get to know Tim's voice (bass singer). Butts Remix (fun) Elvira Folsom Prison Blues Ring of Fire Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer Mayday
They do a MacLamore song called- Can Hold Us. Check It Out, It's Fire!! 🔥🔥🔥 By The way, They do not use ANY Instruments at all, Just their Voices. They are that Good!!!
That man who you swear you can hear the "country" is a city boy from Minneapolis Minnesota. The reason I'm pointing this out is because you laughed when you talked about him sounding country. There's nothing wrong with being from the country and there's a ton of GREAT singers who are from the country but don't necessarily sing or "sound" country. Try listening to Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle) sing The Impossible Dream. And their singing roots isn't country. Other than a couple of songs they didn't actually start singing country until the Sing Off when the producers pushed them to audition as THE country group
I wouldn't recommend May Day until you know the guys names and what they normally do In the group. Not that you won't love it but I'd you know them the. imo it will blow you away
No instruments.. At all.. Period. Check out Adam Rupp Drum solo and you will understand where some of that sound comes from. As for the bass, Tim.. I had to chuckle when you said "he can still bring it up to harmonize" wait until you dig further into these guys... The are all phenomenally talented and have overlapping skill sets and vocal ranges, so they can do all kinds of crazy things.. Home Free is the only 5 man acapella band with 2 bass singers, 3 baritones, 5 tenors, and 5 beat boxers..
Never any instruments, even in studio versions. Maybe more voices in layers, but no instruments. Austin..red head tenor, is from Georgia. You hear him speak, and you know he's from the south. So, you will hear it in his singing. Tim is from Texas, and Chance, who is singing bass here, is from Alabama. Rob and Adam Rupp are from Minnesota. So northerners....
Since you seem to like Tim Foust (the bass), you should react to this one "22 times Tim Foust goes subwoofer mode". Make sure you're strapped in before this reaction! 😉 th-cam.com/video/aq3r1esiQyY/w-d-xo.html
It's an A Capella group. There are no instruments. All of the sounds you hear are made with their voices and their mouths. Whether there is layering occurring is irrelevant. It's their voices.
You're a good reactor. But the dwelling on hearing the 'country' in their voices, is a distraction. Singing at this level is special. Who cares if their roots are in country.
There are no instruments, just these 5 guys! They did an incredible job on this cover. Thanks Darnell. 🖤🍟
Right, like any other studio recording, there are separate layers recorded to form the complete song. The live performances will sound slightly different than the studio recordings because they don't have those layers, but use a looper occasionally, that they set up before the song.

Tim Faust the bass has literally blown sound systems at live shows LOL the man is amazing. Love Home Free and all of their songs and covers.
Shawn Stockman from Boys ll men Loves Home Free. They did a great job on this 🥰 nice reaction ❤️
I love Boyz II Men and have played End of the Road so many times. I never thought I'd ever like a cover of this song. But Home Free managed to do it, while maintaining the respect for the original. You can hear the "Country" in Rob's voice, but he's from Minnesota. He can probably see Canada from his back porch.
Hi DB - Really enjoyed your reaction, breakdown of the vocals, and appreciation of their interpretation of this song. I would like to recommend the "Butts Medley" for a taste of country/rock/rap!😀
The guys really nailed this one and what can you say about Rob? PERFECTION!
I would love to hear you react to their song - Moonshine - it would be probably your first reaction...not that many people have seen it...don't really understand why...it is so good! Let's help them make that song more popular 🥰
There is some layering but no instruments. Awesome reaction ‼️💕 check out Home Free's " Amazing Grace" it's beautiful .
Home Free never misses on any song. Thanks for the reaction

They killed this! They are amazing! Love your reaction!
I enjoy watching you pause and comment on what you're hearing. You mention things that I didn't notice.
Hey brother, these guys are just super talented & amazing...please keep exploring their music.Recommendation their cover of Kane Brown's "Heaven"

Amazing. Love ❤ Home Free. Your reaction was awesome. Thx for sharing.
I love how you are checking them out even though Country isn't usually your thing.
Have you heard VoicePlay? They tend to do more rock style songs.
Subscribing to see you discover more.
Gotta watch their "Butts Remix" or "Love Train". So fun!
If you want to hear Tim (the bass) singing lead on a really fun song, check out "Champaign taste on a beer budget". It's one of my favorites.
The extra instrumentation is probably vocals as well that was pre-recorded and layered in the performance
Their bassist, Tim Foust can sing over 5 octaves flawlessly
Darnell, go listen to their cover of the old Percy Sledge song, "When a Man Loves a Woman." You'll be blown away!
And can we give kudos to Adam Chance in the back providing what you could swear was a bass in the background? New sub here.
No instruments!! A Capella. Beatboxer in the world!! Adam Rupp
I'll explain more than the others...

This is 100% Human Voice " NO " Insterments used.
Sometimes it’s more enjoyable when you listen and not stop it so much
You want to see Tim's range.... Check out the country song Mayday by the artist Cam... then watch Home Free's cover. And if you want to see my favorite song for their beatboxer.... it's their Sea Shanty Medley
They practice a great deal. They’re not satisfied until they’re super tight, which they always are.
The word you're looking for is 'accent' ... Austin's inflections are sometines just his accent peeking through. 🙂
Keep diving into HF catalog, but also check out Pentatonix and VoicePlay for other styles of acapella
Listen man of constant sorrow for the beatboxer he also does a drum solo that is great
Need to listen to Adam Rupp Dorm Solo......... Witch is the beat bopper. It's Awesome 👍

The lead singer is from Minnesota soooo he doesn't have a country voice twang. Funny how it works that way huh?
You need to react to Voice Play "Enemy"
Since you seem to like Tim Foust (the bass), you should react to this one "22 times Tim Foust goes subwoofer mode". Make sure you're strapped in before this reaction! 😉 th-cam.com/video/aq3r1esiQyY/w-d-xo.html
