      I've got 3 PRS, and I think they're all amazing, even the SE. But there might be something to Lee's statement that it's an amazing, beautiful, precision instrument, but it doesn't have that same personality as maybe the Les Paul or the Strat, or the 335 and Tele even. When you do everything well, maybe you don't create that same feeling of connection. Like with a person, the character is in the flaws, and when there just aren't any flaws, you are left with that kind of robotic feeling.

    Over the years of my bedroom career, I have decided the best guitar to play whilst laying on ya bed watching telly, in my opinion, is a Strat.
    Tele’s have no body sculpting and lay flat causing wristification after a time.
    Les Paul’s body weight isn’t as balanced and with no sculpting, it tends to slide off to the right.
    Prs soapbar 2 sits well and the wrists feel good but the angle headstock can interfere with my ashtray and same goes for Dean Baby XL which suffers from heavy right armness tipping the guitar, elevating the neck, thus resulting left arm reach effort of 6 to the power of 420.
    Acoustics....naa.

    I’m in love with my Ibanez Tim Henson. The AZ is the best thing to happen to that brand in a long time. That strat and the 335 are BEAUTIFUL. But that teal sparkle/ roasted maple just slays me man. I HAVE put in a deposit on a custom shop 52 tele that I spec’d out, put in the deposit on Valentine’s Day. I’d be lying if I didn’t get completely
    Inspired by Pete, but I got the purple metallic finish. I ended up spec-ing it very differently though

    Rob playing the Les Paul 59 through the Marshall half stack is by FAR the best all-round guitar tone in this or almost any other video they do!!! That tone fits into more music than all the other guitars put together. I completely understand what the Captain was trying to say about the PRS guitar. They are accurate and 'tool like' but to the point of being somewhat soulless, unless of course, you put it into the hands of one Carlos Santana. IMHO as always...gp

    I completely relate to your point, Lee, about owning a Telecaster. I picked them up and played them at shops, or would fiddle around with my friends Tele's, all the time, over the years, always coveting one, but never quite feeling comfortable with them, yet always envying that Tele sound that good musicians get out of them. However, about 3 years ago, after playing guitar for 35 years, I picked one up at my Local Guitar Center here in Texas, plugged it in and immediately proceeded to amaze myself and everyone in earshot. I realized that I had finally achieved the chops and/or variety of guitar styles to warrant having one. I bought that Tele that day and now it has become my number 2 guitar behind my 2017 Les Paul Traditional Hp and before my ES 335. The odd thing is that before I reached this point of experience in my guitar playing, I could contribute nothing to the Tele in terms of making any kind of musical contribution to it, and it contributed nothing to me, or for me, as a guitar player, either. But, once I got to this "magical" point in my guitar playing maturity (finally), the Tele continues to EXPONENTIALLY improve my skills as a guitar player, and I could never see myself without one now... no way! I could see my self with Pete's, though ...lol. I always look forward to your youtube episodes featuring that purple tone master... Thank you for posting this video, Guys!

    I know I’m way late to the party, but if I could own any one of those guitars, I would choose the Telecaster as well. It’s just the most versatile and has an unmistakable sound. The Les Paul and 335 would be 2 & 3 Strat 4. PRS and Ibanez others can have. Great videos.

    To be fair guys, you maybe should have picked from PRS private stock or something like that. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but you appear to have a custom shop LP, strat, Tele, and possibly 335, against a standard build PRS and Ibanez.
    I could be wrong, but just something to consider when comparing these guitars

    • @stijnj1265
      @stijnj1265 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A private stock won't play or sound much better than a US model. PRS private stock guitars are more about the looks which customer prefers. Of course, the private stocks are spot on, but they aren't significantly better than the US models. Trust me.

  • @jimcamp2423
    @jimcamp2423 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My thing on truss rods, The Gibson/Epiphone head stock adjustment location. The cover is a PITA to bother with, it might as well be at the base of the neck. As for my Ovation acoustic guitar, in the sound hole is pretty much the same as the Fender Strat & Tele in this video and I prefer it there, because the head stock is by far the most sculpted. If the base of the neck has an elaborate adjustment mechanism, I prefer it there, but if you have to unscrew and tilt a neck to straighten it out, then put it on the head stock like a Squier.
    BTW, relic'ed guitars are beaters, I prefer to mess mine up from pristine & brand new. I know you don't care, but if I wanted an old guitar, I'd certainly find a $ 50 Squier practice instrument that's seen a little stage action. Something about a cheap raw instrument that has had a random accident or two. Really, who wants a guitar that looks like wood pests have nested in, a puppy teethed or a rat has chewed on.

    Rob nailed it on what I heard. Tele sounded amazing and the LP was a decent second. Ibanez was sub par in comparison to all. I’ve never dug a PRS CU24 but the 22 seems to have a clearer fuller sound for me... try that.

  • @mikemercer5808
    @mikemercer5808 5 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    I still can't understand why some like the relic'd look so much. If I was spending over $1000 for a guitar, I want it to be damage free. Just my opinion.

    • @ShinMadero

    • @richtfingers
      @richtfingers 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I don’t get relics at all. The issue with me is that they actually have been hit with a hammer and gouged with a screwdriver, it’s not real wear so it’s all just an illusion.

    • @droptuned83
      @droptuned83 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@richtfingers It also triggers my OCD, I would have to have it refinished and restored to be happy with a relict guitar.

    • @sqwark1977
      @sqwark1977 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I weigh more without clothes 100%. Over the years, the worry of dinging my non-reliced guitars has actually made me feel more distanced from them. Relics on the other hand look even better when you bash them about it so if I inadvertently scratch or chip them I don’t care. I thus enjoy playing them more.

    I'm torn between a strat and a telecaster. I want to save up for one and I really love the strat tone, specifically the out of phase, positions 2 and 4 sound, and also the neck pickup - a lot of my favourite artists and the music I would want to play is played on a strat too. However, I played a telecaster in a shop and I just loved how simple it was, there's so much beauty in something just being simple and I feel like with a tele I could play more original stuff and as said in the video it would force you to be a better player and have something to say, there was something about it I really liked which I really didn't expect.
