Crossfader so. The software installed. How ever it shows me what’s new. Then it says application error and crashes and takes me to my files filled with Media player files and it won’t work at all

Im having an issue with rekordbox and ddj 400. Everytime I beatmatch the tracks get out of beat(misaligned) automatically. It happens with manual beatmatching and sync button both. Can you please help @crossfader

I'm old school. I'm 32 now and I've learnt to mix using turntables and CDJ100. I'm not an entry level in DJing... I'm an entry level for this kind of stuff :D. Loops, FX etc etc.. :)

I got a Traktor S3 MK3 when just getting into mixing. Now I'm playing in clubs, I really wish I had've gone for this for rekordbox and Pioneer CDJ fluidity... Not to mention how much better the FX are. An independent filter on each channel seems like a godsend considering on the S2 it's part of the effect bank, where only a single effect can be used at any one time.

They should make a 4 channel entry level DJ controller for 350 or 400.

I have sold my pair of xdjs1000s and mixer, in order to make some space for production gear, but now i miss having djing sessions at home.
so i am looking into getting something cheap and small for those sessions

DDJ400 is a Recordbox version of the DDJ SB3 of Serato, cues and scratch pad are mostly the differance, but kudos to the longer pitch tempo pad that i wish the SB3 have had it too.
Yeah its a shame they didn't add that longer pitch fader to the SB3.

..why pioneer didnt tell us that they have changed the sound card on the ddj 400?? its not possible to add fx to the mic input...i have replaced my ddj rb for ddj 400 and now im sooo sorry....Im using the mic sometimes with a singer and its so frustrating not having the fx and bass treble options on the mic....
I mix on headphones so I'm probably gonna sell my SB3 for $200 and get this for the bigger pitch faders and the cue mix knob. The $50 I'll be losing would have been spent on Serato Pro anyways 🙄

Finally I can say I know what I'm getting into with this controller and I must admit - the features and amount of control seems INCREDIBLE for the price.
i just watched a video about how confusing and sneaky how rekordbox hides what's free and whats not on the rekordbox v.6. I don't know the link cause it was a half an hour ago. So i just purchased a ddj 400 and i am not tech savvy so what software come with the ddj 400? am i going to have headaches with this controller or was the indian guy know what he was talking about? Hey I saw your review and demo for the DDJ-SB3, I loved it. I've also been looking at what club set ups are like and that is what I would be striving for. Because of the way this controller is laid out, would it be a better option than the DDJ-SB3 in transitioning to CDJs?

You really don't need the club set up at home nowadays when you have equipment like this available.

As a person who plays in a club with cdjs i can say that this controller is really close to the real pioneer setup so you can have a good training at home yes

Ive just bought this . I used to dj for many years. Just drum and bass on turntables. I now just wamna record a few mixes. Casual. All these ddj have all this extra crap on them that im not interested in. The ddj400 seems to have the best manual beatmatching quality. The feel is good too, so they say. Thats all i Care about though.

I went with the S2 mk3. The hardware is awesome!! Traktor pro 3 software sucks!! In my opinion. I would go with ddj 400!!!

Would love to buy myself one of these toys just for fun (home DJing, maybe some backyard gigs but definitely not clubs). Cannot decide between DDJ-400 and Traktor S2 MK3. The forums are not helpful either: all they say is to decide based on the software I’d like to use. But the thing is that I don’t know about that either! I kinda prefer the look of Traktor controllers, but DDJ-400 seems to be built of better materials than S2 MK3. Also people say that Traktor software is hopelessly falling behind the others, lacking features and its development being slow. If I owned an iPad that would decide in Traktor’s favor, but I don’t and not planning to have one. Serato is out of question: I don’t want a piece of crippleware that I have to pay an extra $100 to unlock. Also I’m not planning to scratch - I’d play some deep house / progressive / trance. So what would you suggest? Total DJ noob here, but used to play around with DAW’s and make some music a while ago.
Hello. I am so apreciate for Your tutorial. Today I purchased this DDJ Pioneer - 400. I hope I will like it so much because my current 6 years experience on the laptop controller software only (I dont want to say what is the name of the software) is not enough in these times :) Having the actual DDJ controller I will more easy mix my tracks to sets etc :) Again, thanks for your tutorial and I wish You all the best with recording many more tutorials :)
And I actually bought Roland Serato DJ 202 - not bad but I guess Pioneer is better.

Sajwar Sohail get speakers! There’s pioneer ones for about 80-120 and they are brilliant for a bedroom setup.

How do you think this compares to the sb3?
We're planning on doing a comparison video but it all comes down to the software. The controllers are a very similar build. Slightly better jog wheels and tempo fader on the ddj 400 but the serato dj lite software is great for beginners to get started. Rekordbox has more features available but its also more complex for beginner DJs.

Not a starter, just getting back in to it. Good controller for people on a low budget, couldn't pay much more so had to compromise. It serves it's purpose well. I do miss the 4 channels but hey whatever
Anybody else have an issue with the channel faders? My mate has one and when you lower the channel fader to, say, 70%, there's a pretty noticeable decrease in volume... more than you would expect. *Not an issue with the different options on fader curve.* It seems like the unit imposes an extra (decreasing) volume fade for some as yet unknown reason. In the end it's impossible to do any sharp or fast cuts with channel fader because while you are moving the fader up 2, 3 or 4 times between beats, the unit is cutting the volume and you don't get the right result in the output. To put this in Pioneer transform effect terms: you can only do 1/1 fader cut, even a 1/2 fader cuts get lost in an overly attenuated mess, let alone the 1/4 and 1/8 cuts.
Is this an actual issue with this particular unit, or does the DDJ 400 just have extremely poor channel faders? The cross fader is fine, but the channel faders are almost useless... even a slow fade will produce a more attenuated sound. Even with a normal curve, having the fader at 70% sounds like a proper fader at 40%.

No its not, its perfectly legal to use at home... once your happy with some of the stuff and u wanna use them for professional purposes you can buy the songs anyway like i used to.

The DDJ-400 now also works with Virtual DJ. So you are no longer forced to use it with Rekordbox DJ

Edkush I disagree. RB has come along way, but it hasn't cought up with VDJ yet. It's way to closed, it doesn't have nearly as many features, options and settings as VDJ, it only supports Pioneer hardware, and most importantly: it doesn't have a scripting language, so you can't (re)program it to do basically anyrhing you want like you can with VDJ
Apart from that it feels a bit sluggish in use compared to VDJ, and it's not as stable
But Pioneer are putting in a lot of effort into RB, and have long ago surpassed Serato IMO
They are currently implementing a lot of VDJ features, like Lyrics, graphics on top of audio and lighting control, so at some point RB may be compareable to VDJ - but not yet
Rekordbox 5.4 is miles ahead of vdj
I very much disagree. RB is not yet close to VDJ when it comes to feature set
VDJ has an extreme amout of functionality (I have personally created about 100 youtube videos showing some of it), and even though RB has started copying a lot of these features from VDJ (like the lyrics plugin, the light control, and lately the automatic loop feature) RB is still missing a whole lot of features to make it to VDJs feature level - the most important one IMO being the lack of a scripting language in RB
But RB has other things going for it - the most important one being that you use the same software / environment for preparing files for the club and playing them on CDJs, as you do for a laptop / controller setup.
So if you are a club DJ and expect to do a lot of your gigs on CDJs without laptop, RB is probably the way to go
If you are a more allround / mobile DJ VDJ is king IMO
I currently rate the big 4 like this:
1. Virtual DJ
2. Rekordbox
3. Traktor (looking forward to digging into v3)
4. Serato (they have really been left behinds the last few years - v2 was a huge disappointment)

Download a dj app and start messing around on your phone. You'll slowly pick stuff up for a quarter of the cost and then when you're ready to go buy an entry level controller. That'd what I'm doing 😁
I just got a ddj 400 for Christmas and the vid helped a lot with my skills, I hope I become a pro dj when I get older,if I can I'll make my DJ nickname DJkat2, I can't get my hopes up yet but using my ddj is helping me get there, thank you for the help. 👍

Where we get a normal sized cdj display on each deck and the ability to control multiple rb fx from the controller (not 1 like DDJ-1000).
But let them fix that nasty "beat fx on master = hearable audio lag" bug in the DDJ-1000 first.
The official announcement from Pioneer (on their HP) is "mid may - end juni" --> still not solved

Nice review mate. Brought the sb3 6 weeks ago after heaps of research and it's great. At the start of this review I was thinking maybe I'd made a mistake and should get this one, but cheers for clearing it up that it wouldn't be much of an "upgrade" really

I got a ddj 200, and I really like it, I thought it was a good idea if you just want to use it for fun (I'm using the DJAY app with Spotify), but unfortunately I felt that I didn't have enough buttons for everything, and after seeing this it makes so much more sense. I only have 8 pads for each side, Top 4, loop, Bottom 4 set up cues. If you want to do this as a hobby and only fun (AND I MEAN JUST FUN, FOR YOURSELF AND SOME SIMPLE EDITS "You can still get complex with practice, but it'll get kind of annoying the limitations), but if you want to get the 400, for hobbies, parties with your friends, or learn how to be a DJ.
The 400 is an immense upgrade from the 200 (for just 100 dollars), so think about it. It does have its limitations the 200, but its 100 dollars cheaper, it works just fine, but limitations.
Spotify support will drop the djay support

Yeah it comes with the Rekordbox software from Pioneer. After installing using the license key found in the box its literally plug and play with your laptop. The software allows you to manage/organise and prepare your music.

Good review. I just have one question, about the music, how can you export the music into the software in your computer? You have to pay the music or you can use the songs downloaded into your computer, can we use streaming portals like Spotify or Itunes?

I have problem with my DDJ400 when i hold left Jog the beat on screen still playing, the beat can't stop...
But when i kill the bass on right channel the left jog is normal...

I have the DDJ-400 and it's awesome. My only complaint is that the tempo slider is way TOO sensitive on Rekordbox. For instance, it is nearly impossible to set the BPM from 124.00 to 125.00 exactly (even with the ±6). Do you happen to know if there is a way to narrow the range even more?

Thank you for this great review. I'm still struggling if I should buy the Traktor Kontrol S2 or the Pioneer DDJ-400. The S2 has a quite good quality, but I think the DDJ-400 too. The effect section is also better than on the S2, but I actually wanna use Traktor, because it's so free in configuration. One more thing I wanted to ask is, where could I turn on and off the Vinyl Mode on the DDJ-400? And could you give me a tip, what are some big differences between the S2 and the DDJ-400? there is no dedicated button to toggle vinyl mode, but you can midi map it, I replaced my tempo range button for it, so it goes shift+sync
and so what you ve got ? Traktor ? I also dont know what to choose traktor or pioneerr

I'm going to buy this and jam out with a xp1 combined, but I'm looking to see what the new mid range pioneer controller will be for the update on the DJJ RR, my guess is jog dial oleds from the DJJ 1000, longer pitch and djm 4000 mixer built in, maybe the pads from xp1, slide fx, the only issue with new ddj 400 would be the pitch being too close to the pads?? I think next updates will implement pioneer rekordbox dmx lighting in future on the ddj 1000
Yeah we're hoping for some of those features to be implemented on the mid range version of this.
