  • Looking to sync your roms and saves between multiple devices? Then look no further. In this tutorial I'll show you how to use the free open-source, multiplatform and cloudless file-sharing program, SyncThing, to seamlessly transfer your retro gaming goodness from device to device, so you can easily game on the go!
    In this video, we will cover the following:
    1) Installing SyncThing on a Windows PC and Anbernic RG552 Android gaming handheld.
    2) Setting up folders and sync settings for our saves, savestates and rom collection in Windows.
    3) Setting up folders and sync settings for our saves, savestates and rom collection in Android.
    4) Testing everything out and taking a brief look at how awesome it is to be able to transfer your roms and saves across all your devices!

      @@heckadankgangster Progress is definitely good :) If the game saves are working then your devices are talking to one another, so there likely is something in the syncthing settings for the savestates that needs adjusting. Would this be as accessible as something like the cloud based save syncing that EmuDeck now has built into its platform. Allowing you to choose Dropbox, Google Drive, etc as a storage space that can then be accessed by other EmuDeck devices such as a Windows Desktop etc? Looking for an option that RetroArch, Dolphin, etc can access across Windows and Android that swaps out the most recent version of the save file seamlessly. Or is SyncThing still the best option? Presuming both devices have to be on the same network and turned on to do this.

      Are the synced folders on both your phone and computer set to both send and receive? Also, are the date and time setting on both your computer and phone accurate? Those are two of the things I find that usually cause errors with older files overwriting newer ones.

    Hey there my RetroArch Guru. Another good video. I have a question for you not related to your video. I am using a core called "pocketcdg_libretro" that does old karaoke cd+mp3 files. I am able to get them to work well in both PC & android, but I can't find a way to scrape any type of artwork. Any ideas? (BTW, current pocketcdg_libretro core isn't working, having to use cores from a yr or so back as RA is aware of current core not working)

    Hey man thanks for your elegant solution. So guys I'm using the same core mGBA (for gameboy advance) on both pc and android. but for some reasons the follwoing is happening: Save file only goes from android to pc not the other way around. and states are fine when I save on android and want to load on pc, but again not the other way around. I check it the files are synced from pc to android, but the android version just wont read them. when I load the same state I saved on pc on my android, it just doesn't do anything. any one have any solution?

      no just need to have the exact same rom im pretty sure. core might matter but version of retroarch shouldn't

    • @otggaming3180
      @otggaming3180  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, as far as I know Retroarch version shouldn't matter as long as you're not using a really old version on one of your devices. For cores, I try to have the most updated version on both devices as sometimes savestates will break between different core versions of the same emulator. For SRAM saves though, you'll rarely have a problem, so I try not to rely solely on savestates, especially for games where I've made a lot of progress.

    • @otggaming3180
      @otggaming3180  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it will work both ways. Also, you can modify the settings so that you have options in case of a conflict, such as giving one device priority over the other, or keeping a copy of both files so that you can examine them. I've used Syncthing on a number of my devices for quite awhile, and not just for gaming, but for personal and business. Thankfully, there's only been one or two times when I needed to sort out a conflict and it was easy to do.

      I believe it should be. I don't use Launchbox on Android so I'm not entirely sure how it's configured there. But I do use it on PC and it doesn't really make any configurations changes to the emulators it uses. So I think the process would be the same - just sync the save and savestate folders for each emulator between your PC and Android device and you should be good.
