I love making tier lists, and since I made one ranking my favourite L-Mount lenses recently, I thought I'd do another one this week, but this time ranking different camera brands instead!
This video will definitely trigger some people, and it was designed to - I feel like it's good to have some healthy debate every now and then!
Of course, I use Lumix cameras, but that doesn't mean I haven't used other brands in the past, and of course, I have many opinions on the other players in the industry!
Hope you enjoy :) - เพลง
Okay then, roast me - what did I get wrong? 😂
I've used Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Lumix and the video quality I was getting made me switch to Lumix fully. Getting the S5 also made me love the photo quality and usability on Lumix systems as well which shows that they are actually improving and listening to us.
I don't think RED deserves 'Fantastic' with the monopoly they are pulling with their patent on RAW videos. They are literally preventing other camera companies from innovating. Thankfully Nikon won the case against them.
Nothing wrong
OK haha apple camera array is terrible compared to Google, Samsung and every other camera brand. I'd put apple in probably not especially because of its small sensor when lots of android have 50mp 1 inch sensor
You are comparing Apple to Android which is a bit incorrect if I do say so myself. Android is diverse and if you should mention brands then also include Google Pixel and Samsung high end devices instead of just "Android" since its essentially an operating system not a device!
@@epycleap I did include Google and Samsung as well as vivo
quite incosistent. The reason you put Fujifilm in fantastic instead of god tier was quite not great video features (ignoring X-H2s) and then Leica in god tier, because they are a "dream camera"
I agree with you actually, after using multiple Leica’s , I’d rate Fuji higher :)
Mate, the Nikon Z8 might be the best hybrid video camera on the market right now. It's got 8k60 internal raw and ProRes raw, 4k120, good battery life, great autofocus, and tons of features. It's got similar/sometimes better specs than the Sony A1 for more than $2000 less. So I don't really understand why you're saying it's expensive. The rest of the lineup is weak on video though, for sure (outside the Z9 of course). Also, most of their lenses are super quiet focusing and have very little focus breathing. So they are definitely designing better for video now, it's just the older releases were subpar. But the files you get for photos are the best I've seen, honestly. That's why I am shooting Lumix for video and Nikon for stills. But don't write them off until you try a Z8.
Have been very impressed and intrigued by Nikon lately. They've been a bit late to the party when it comes to video, which I think hurts them a little bit with hybrid shooters. But everything you've said shows that they're trending in the right direction. Embracing N-Raw and external BRAW, along with their lens releases are all encouraging. The brands I'm most familiar with are Canon, Panasonic, and Fuji. If not for that, I'd probably jump in heads first to give the Nikon system a try.
Yeah! Nikon makes nice stuff. But they don't really understand people's needs or they don't really care about people's needs.
How could the Nikon's team do two same and ecxact cameras for the top line of the brand, one behind the other? [Z8 & Z9]
They didn't really understand that videos people want flippy screen basicly for video and not the screen they put on the Z9. And they do it again with Nikon Z8.😏
Just make the Nikon Z8 fully for video people first, and the Z9 for Photography people firsf. 🤦
The only one that have a flippy screen, but again with a micro HDMI, is the ecxact one that have the retro photographer's look, bottons and usability for photographers first, and with very poor video Specs compare to the Z8 and Z9 video Specs without a flippy screen: "the new Nikon ZF".... 🤣 that's really a funny joke move from Nikon, the ZF!! Jaja
I don't really understand How the Nikon's team thinkers could do those things, again and again and again🤦....
That's mean, we could never hope nothing good from Nikon on the future, videoshooters. Nothing good gonna happen. 😏
They really don't care about videoshooter. They haven't realease nothing for videoshooter Hybride first, since the Nikon D500 Aps-C and the Nikon D750 fullframe.
This is an list out of influencers eyes talking about potatoes, blah blah. Lack of knowledge
Once a Panasonic, always Panasonic. Proud user of Lumix cameras since 2009. Never looked back. If you know about quality, you buy Panasonic. If you re marketing brainwashed haters, well, good luck!. Great video of yours Josh!
Thank you! Someone says it!
Абсолютно верно 👍
I agree! My friend’s Fuji’s shutter button broke within 2 years, another friend’s Sony broke within a year, and at work they also use Sony cameras, and all 4 broke (some twice) within 5 months and all the 7 year old GH5 cameras they were about to throw away were put to work for another year while the Sony’s got fixed.
Panasonic is AMAZING!
"Never looked back" - maybe you should coz thats exactly how brainwashed person behave.
@@m4rcin847 lol. Live your myth. I repeat. Once a Panasonic, always Panasonic
OM and Nikon - just dismissed by default. Interesting, because I'm an Olympus shooter that, if I had to go ff, I'd pick Nikon.
I shoot OM as well and I too would go Nikon if I had to switch to full frame. Probably because Canon's lens lineup sucks and when it doesn't it's expensive and 3rd party doesn't exist. I'd skip Sony because I just hate their ergonomics and Nikon because it FEELS like your shooting Olympus but in a larger body. Plus, 3rd party lenses.... although there needs to be more; I wish Tamron would release an updated version of the 35-150mm f/2.8-4.
Totally agree. Especially the price issue with Canon glass. I feel Canon is doing their prices like with their printers. The camera may be affordable, but the lenses will kill you. Same with the printers and ink.
Canon is like Apple in Smartphone world. While Sony is Samsung, packed with the latest tech/features but lacks personality. 😅
Lol, The guy who promotes the iPhone to us by criticizing Android in passing. The S23 Ultra humiliates the iPhone 14 pro max, and I'm not talking here about the 200mpx sensor, but the X10 optical zoom,HDR that crushes the iPhone, Expert raw mode, photos in low light, and so on, at Apple everything is done with lightroom, without that your photo looks like a viewmaster photo 😂
A little advice, before criticizing the competitors without arguments, do a real comparison, it's a shame to have such a biased judgment, because I really like your channel, But I will see her from now on with another eye
I use both iPhones and Samsungs in equal generations. I always prefer those from the Samsung. So much better quality even on larger monitors.
Cannot be compared. Samsung makes better fridges I'll give you that, but they are not a serious contender in the camera/phone market.
Video still looks better on the iPhone
You have the BMD paradigm completely back to front; they provide the software so that you buy their hardware. That's why you can get Resolve (which used to cost a six figure sum before BMD bought it, for free. It's also why Resolve won't work with the likes of AJA.
Well said and plain spoken.
And polycarbonate build is not to be considered low quality at all.
They are workhorses.
As a Sony user, Why the Nikon hate? The Z8 has pretty much the same specs as the A1, sometimes better, for over 2000 dollars less…
And the new Z6iii is by far the best hybrid camera under $3000. Nikon gives you incredible value for money
People just hate Nikon for some odd reason. I started off with Nikon since my aunt is a long time user. I love the dslr she gave me but I also appreciate other brands as well. Sony is really great, I would’ve switched over but I got a lot of Nikon gear so it just works. People have these brands obsessions and don’t wanna appreciate other brands. At the end of the day they’re all just a shutter and take pictures
as a blackmagic shooter (i have the OG, which i use constantly still, the 4k and the 6kg2) i have to agree with the odd form factor and plastic-y build. But dang, that image. You get the "Arri look" at the fraction of the price, the menu system is easily the best thing out there (and i also have the Panasonic S5 which I really enjoy) and working with braw - in Davinci - is a dream. I don't think I agree with the "mid" designation, but yeah this was a fun video and honestly who gives a F what i think lol!
I find it interesting that you ranked brands based primarily their digital and video performance. Yet, you put Leica, who has little to no video features, at the highest position.
😮I'm a Lumix fanboy and own 3 S bodies and think my S5ii is absolutely amazing, but I would not put Lumix in God Tier......yet! Lets see what they do with an S1ii and S1Hii first!
What would you excpect for these ones that you don't get with the S5II ? I'm seriously about to make a little hole in my bank account for the S5IIX or maybe S5II (seriously considering photo and vidéo as a carreer or to add money to thé table aside) but I know the S1-II is likely to be available in a few months.
@@HappyMSI1 mostly 4k 60, Full Frame. Hate that the s5II crops 4k 60
Lumix was ahead, then fell behind (in autofocus), now is catching up. Solid brand, good lenses with expanding 3rd party support (cine, anamophic, and budget). Compatibility between MFT and S lines.
You put apple in god tier and now I refuse to watch the rest of the video
Sony definitely need to eliminate the overheating aspect hands down, BUT in my experience the Sony A7 IV has overheated only twice in the year I’ve had it, first time before changing the thermal setting and second when the screen was closed in a hot environment. However, I’ve used it 6 weddings this year throughout the really hot summer and it’s not overheated once, even at times of filming nonstop for 30+ mins in a conservatory. So I do feel the overheating aspect is being over exaggerated now these days especially now there are ways to try and prevent it as much as possible
I’m curious since I own this camera too, how do you deal with the poor rolling shutter?
@@raph.cinema I try not to do much fast movements with the camera if I can and I put my shutter speed slightly higher than double the fps, e.g. when filming 24/30fps I set my shutter to around 1/100 keeps everything sharp, and seems to be a sweet spot to counter any light refresh rates. Hope this is helpful. I will add I’ve found the rolling shutter to be more noticeable on the S5 II than the A74
I agree with most of your choices, but would personally place Nikon higher. They are one of the power houses of the photo industry, who certainly dropped the ball after the release of their excellent D850 DSLR, and are (only) now in 2023 picking up again in the mirrorless world. The Z9 is also a good video camera, and Nikon makes excellent lenses. To me they should be in the 'mid' to 'fantastic' level, and I don't think there is a high risk into owning or getting into Z-mount as it will be developed further and continue to live on. I would certainly place Nikon above OM Systems, which was virtually bankrupt, now owned by an investment company, who can strike them off by the stroke of a pen when they don't make money and where there is little R&D in their new models. Personally I have Fuji for photo and Sony for video.
I am a Lumix fanboy. Currently broke so I roll my canon glass with an adapter and manual focus on my S5. It’s amazing experience.
I love Lumix! The moment you mentioned Panasonic and waved your arms, the camera's autofocus went to your hands! ;-)
hahahahaha
Thanks for the feedback, they are now working on a firmware update.
Proud to have stuck with the Panasonic Lumix brand since the GH4 🫡
Just as I expected you to be about Lumix! Thanks for sharing your content... been invaluable coming back to photography after a while away (Fuji XT1 days) to Lumix. Abolutely loving it!
In my opinion:
God tier:Leica, Hasselblad, Red
Fantastic:Nikon, Fuji, Canon, Sony and maybe pentax and the full frame Lumix
Mid:Ricoh, Sigma
Probably not:Lumix
Get in the bin:Olympus
Wait why lumix probably not? Have you used the s5iix it is a monster and for the price omg. I spent 5k on a fully rigged out iix and it’s so overpowering for film and photos. I’m curious about your reasoning
I see you rank the most expensive cameras at the top of your list.
Panasonic Lumix is the best 🤝
at the start there is a issue. if we are talking about cameras we talk about cameras right. so i phone only add software to the hardware and most of the futures they provide for intend changing or processing pictures for normal people daily usage or make it artificial quality. I say yes we should take phones seriously but if we do we should add samsung asus and other phone brands that takes good photos.
I love my S5 ii but this isn't close. Sony as a company is above lumix. Panasonic hasn't even released a camera to match the A7Siii, EOS R5C, or the Z8. Lumix may have the best full frame entry level cameras but God teir? We have to start being honest with ourselves.
Exactly lol. We don't have a single camera with 30 MP or more and workable AF. That alone makes it absolutely impossible for a camera brand to be God Tier. Half the game is still taking pictures. The points you mentioned are strong, and then we havent even mentioned lenses. Panasonic is my fav and I have 2 S5iis, but come on
One wouldn't buy a Pentax for video, for sure. I respect that this video is proffering your opinion, but I disagree with two points. I find Pentaxes fun to use, and I like the way they look. Over the years I have used most brands (including Lumix), and all were good cameras capable of great results, but I have always stuck with Pentax. I get the feeling that they are cameras designed by photographers for photographers (as opposed to videographers), and many people would be astonished by the number of innovations Pentax have introduced into their DSLRs over the years, especially with the sensor movement permitted by the shake reduction system. Things like astrotracing, horizon levelling and composition adjustment, that no other cameras have that I know of. I think, also, that Pentax were the first company to introduce HDR into a DSLR with the K-7, but I could be wrong about that. I now have a K-1, a K-3 iii and a K-3 iii Monochrome (who else does a monochrome camera outside of the very expensive Leicas?), and I'm very happy with them. Horses for courses, naturally, but other cameras have come and gone in my life, but I won't part with my Pentaxes and their lovely Limited and DA* lenses.
I still have mine KD10 from 18 years ago and still shoots astonashing photos, I will by a new one. The KP so I have a fresh look
Comparing all the ratings you gave, I believe you went too harsh on the BM. I think it totally deserved the fantastic rating.... just my opinion
Blackmagic deserves to be higher - easily the best menu system, introduced one of the best codecs (Braw) and their cameras also give a pleasing image. Also they're not overpriced like other comparable prosumer brands such as Canon, Fujifilm etc
Having come from Fuji XT4 to S5ii I have to agree with your rating. Too many sycophants out there who don’t look beyond one system.
10:00 Just switched from Sony to the Nikon Z8 - one of the best video cameras to exist - 8k60p Internal N-RAW at $2500!
Poor Black magic…. I feel it deserves a bump up.
Quality control on sony is awesome absolutely no one complains about overheating. Its literally the most used camera these days their lens selection is awesome the biggest complaint against them is the fact they dont software update their cameras. So your left in the dust as they release newer cheaper products with more functionality
Call me a wimp, but I only owned the S1R briefly because it was so heavy. I used all the brands mentioned except for the cinema cameras and Ricoh. The best photo images have come from the Pentax KP and Sigma SD Quattro. I do like and use the Panasonic GX8 and S5ii. As for Canon, I prefer the results from my 6D more than from the R5, which I had briefly.
I don’t think Lumix can go higher than Blackmagic both have amazing features and own goals. Maybe tier above but 2? 😅
Outstanding video. I knew only a few brands and comments are spot on, trying to keep at the higher level. Great piece!
As a long time iPhone user I would definitely say they have improved so much on their cameras. I have the 15 pro rn and the photos are great, the biggest downside still is portrait mode, the F2 just looks really janky and not clear, too blurry on the edges and same with the ultra wide you get way too much vignette on the corners and it looks weird. But the video quality and basic 24-50 mm is perfect
The portrait mode defo needs some tweaking, I totally agree. It feels like the algorithms they use just aren't cutting it unless you stop the 'aperture' down to like F5.6
There is no option for shutter angle with R5 or R6 either last time I checked. So now if we add Red to Yellow, what do we get? Orange or Apple? :)
though i’m a lumix s5ii user but i thik sony should get God tier, nikon Mid or Fantastic, sigma mid or probably not , Lumix on fantastic
Lol putting Nikon as Probably Not because of some reps at a show and probably because he doesn't familiarize himself with the video aspect, but then complains about Sony's long standing heating issues which hinders people's jobs and that's Fantastic.. LOLLL Okay boy.
Over the decades, I have used Leica, Nikon, and Fuji for film and digital work.
I have used Android, Canon, and Olympus for digital work only.
I have used Mamiya and Pentax for film work only.
If I were ranking the brands based on my film and digital experience, it would be entirely different from yours.
As an OM1 and Nikon F owner in the film era, it's strange that photography is being lead by consumer electronics companies, Sony and Panasonic. It's also interesting that the highest rated brands are uncompromising and narrowly focussed (excuse the pun), not everyman, all things to all people kind of cameras.
Fuji reinvigorated my photography drive! I am shooting for over 10 years now, but my old Nikon D7000 just didn't give me a pleasant experience anymore. So big und bulky and ugly and weighty and just not fun to use. I didn't touch it for a year or two and rather shot with my iPhone… The XT-5 changed that, I just love that thing.
If you only understood how much of the "innovation" in today's camera's came from Pentax you would rate them differently. Name another brand with the astro-tracer functionality, in-body stabilization, etc.
hi, i want to ask what is the app you used,it looks good, thanks
Duuuuuuuuude I am suuuuuper curious what codec/settings you used for video on the XT3 bc I shot a lot of video on it last year and had no trouble editing 4K footage on my M1 MacBook Pro. That being said I feel you on the other critiques, I got sick of it and upgraded to the SL2-S lol
also, SL2-S is insane for video it's gorgeous
These videos are fun but you forget to do one thing one normally does with this kind of lists: compare the cameras/brands within the tiers. The more the left you place them, the better they are in that tier. In "God Tier" for example, is Apple better than Lumix? This is to know which one is the absolute best/worst.
Try the Z8. Internal raw, pro res, 8k 60fps, no overheating, great color science, and Nikon it's cheap for what it is. If you add a body plus a pair of lenses then Nikon Z8 it's the best bang for the buck. The 85mm 1.8S for 750usd its a great price, the lens is near perfect. And you have third party lenses too. Canon is much more pricier if you compare lenses for the same quality. Sony is much more pricier if you compare bodies and lenses for the same quality (and Sony haven't a body with Z8 / Z9 capabilities). Just try the Z8
If you are planning to stay in DSLR Pentax is your most logical choice as its the only brand that openly focus and stays on DSLR train while Nikon, Canon etc are going hard on mirrorless.
I am willing to ride that Pentax train as my K10D is still kicking and there are bunch of digital or film cameras to choose from heck they even released a new film camera..
for full-frame mirrorless i am going to Sony because their AF game is strong.. One huge thing Pentax has struggled... But to be fair every photographer should know how to take manual shots. Sony makes quality and those telephoto lenses are to die for
You shat the bed in regards to Sony.
All the best,
A Lumix User
Started serious with camera with the Olympus so OM system will always have a place in my heart.
Then hoped onto Sony as been more familar with Mirrorless. Though Lumix was a system I enjoy till today. Just awaiting them to drop a GX9 successor with their latest AF tech.
Fujifilm is a system I picked up recently, XT3, old but gold. Surprised with the Out of camera quality. Lenses choices are really excellent with all of these brands to be honest. I will be happy with either brands that I have listed as I have used them before and had no regrets.
I agree with everything you said although I do think that there should be a category between God Tier and Fantastic and I think fujifilm and Canon should go in there. While I agree that native rf mounts are expensive, Canon has started letting other brands make lenses for them, plus, I think rf cine lenses are more common than L mount brands. For example if you want a cheap, fast cine lens under £500 for L mount you only really have one option: 7 artisans. But for Canon RF you have a myriad of options - my favourite being the Mitakon Speedmasters at t1.0. (I am slightly biased though as the C70 is possibly my favourite camera of all time). As for fujifilm, in the mirrorless world they are on par even better than sony. For example the fx30 is similarly priced to the xh2s and yet fujifilm - in every category - beats sony. The xh2s has a stacked apsc sensor, which basically eliminates rolling shutter, and can shoot 6.2k open gate, and in terms of third party cine lenses, both cameras are equal. Although, Sony does have a bigger range of cameras in the same ecosystem so upgrading from mirrorless to cine might be easier than switching brands. I also think z cam should go in fantastic, simply because of value for money.
Still standing still with my PENTAX
The Sony Xperia 1 V has a much better camera than the iPhone for video. Yeah, no ProRes, but the quality is awesome and doesn't have any over-sharpening BS.
The 1 IV is actually my B-Cam... besides my PANASONIC S5 II X!
PANASONIC! PANASONIC!
Oh and why always the Android hatred? Seems you never truly tried a good Android, then and got stuck with Apple. 😛
I'm slightly more impressed with olympus thab i am with panasonic and is use both. If I had 1500usd to spend on two cameras and lenses for filming concerts olympus would be the only option. They are by far the best value in the "low end" market and the in built stabilisation paired with ttartisan and 7artisans is amazing. Room for growth is possible with an easy switch to to panasonic gh5s which share lenses aswell. M43 is the best. Forget blurry background nonsense
What app is that that lets you sort them?
I think it depends which region you live that matters. For instance, Nikon in the southern hemisphere and many latin American countries is cheaper than Canon and Canon's third party lens limitation (especially with the recent crackdown of some third party lenses) makes me put them in the "Mid" range and "Nikon" also in the mid range. That would be my only change. Bring Nikon up and Canon down putting them on the same level but Sony and Fuji and the rest above.
I am pretty sure that there are more people moving away from Lumix to Sony than the other way around. I had the Panasonic G7 and then the Panasonic GH5 before moving over to the Sony A7iii and now the Sony A7IV. By the way my Sony A7IV never overheated on me and I live in the Caribbean so there's that
Honestly, which camera brand would you recommend for a wedding photographer? Hope I could save my money. Thank you
I aspire for OM System, yes, I want to buy a camera.
i think all is perfect except lumix in god tear , reason for that is they haven't made single camera that be capable of 120fps or at least 60fps with no crop in S series, as fitness shooter that big downside for me and ive been waiting for them to released one since 2022, im having though of moving to canon after releasing the 24-105 f2.8 but i have a deep feeling for lumix that doesn't let me change camera brand
Seems a bit superficial to me... Kind of jack of all trades, master of none review. Heard this, heard that, etc. This was too big of a task to take on mate. Also the giant cloud of smoke you blew up Pana's @rse :)
It wasn’t a review, it was my personal opinions of camera brands based on current innovation and marketing share they have in the current market.
I’m sorry you took it this way :)
What a risky video but u nailed it!
Thoughtful placement of brands. I can only relate to a few of your swim lane choices...although good to hear your opinion on all of them.
Fujifilm for photography as god-tier is fine by me!
I’d put Apple and Lumix down into Fantastic. Nikon up into Mid. Sigma down into Mid.
I always enjoy working your videos and really like them, but I quite disagree on the rating you give our beloved Panasonic. At as today, Panasonic does not have a full frame camera that does 4k60p (no crop), a big shame, something Sony A7S-3 can do three years ago, Panasonic does not have 8k, something Sony A1, Canon R5, Nikon Z9, can do over 2yrs now. Panasonic use to be ahead in the video segment but unfortunately, they are far behind and are not even serious about catching up. I have not upgrade from my GH5 because I'm waiting for the next Panasonic full frame that can do 4k120p and really tired of waiting and now considering switching to a more serious brand. Nikon is great for video but not giving much recognition because they are known for their excellent photography, just like Panasonic is synonymous with video. The best hybrid camera right now is the Nikon Z8.
U dont hv to use RF lens though, canon sold adapted Ef-R mount
Apple TWO tiers above Blackmagic? I see. Well, it's a free country. 😉
So I j ust came to see where you put Panasonic, because I'm waiting for my S5II to arrive and I'm switching from Fuji . According to this , I made the right choice. But then again, you also have apple up there ? I mean, phone cameras van be good but god tier ? Or are the tiers not objective and in relation to what they are ? Because Hasseblad next to apple doesn't otherwise makes sense ? And no, I didn't watch the whole thing :PPPP
This video is a really good joke!😂
RED - Fantastic, Nikon - Probably not. Now that they are one, would you consider them a "Mid"?
An interesting video. Generally agreed with your opinions except for Apple and Ricoh. Apple expensive junk, I have owned several which proved to be unreliable and frustrating to use, gave them away. Ricoh so easy to use and put in your pocket as a note taker, but a bit fragile.
The company with the highest market value manufactures expensive junk products,That's so funny
Nice ranking. Most of the Lumix S5ii content is about video with not much focus on photography. Can you possibly point me towards some photography focused content. Or, provide your comments about the S5ii for photography. Thank you!
Take a look at the Lumix USA channel. In the live stream videos are very useful tips and tricks - also for photography.
S5ii is still really good for photography, as long as you don't care about high MP count. Even then, there is a pixel-shift high-res mode. It's a great hybrid camera. The Hybrid Shooter has some videos that talk about photography. Also Julia Trotti just put out a video comparing it to the A7iv.
LMAO Nikon is the best still camera, anybody processing their RAW will know, now they also have the best hybrid in the world, Z8
can you elaborate on xt3 video files being hard to edit? never heard the before
They are H.265 files which can prove to be a little tricky for some computers
@@JoshCameron which video type do you recommend that also isnt too large?
I would rank Canon definitely lower, they have great cameras but have been playing the consumer-friendly game totally wrong for too long.
I agree with pretty much everything other than Blackmagic should be Fantastic tier, Panasonic should be Mid tier, and Sigma should be Probably Not tier. Blackmagic has been the reason why other camera manufacturers had to start putting better codecs into their cameras at a lower price point and never has pretended to be something they are not. I love that I can just pick up the 6K Pro and shoot gorgeous braw footage and use internal NDs and have a beautiful menu system. I'm just not a Panasonic guy. I appreciate their IBIS and I like the L mount but just have never enjoyed shooting on the GH4 or GH5 (those are the only Panasonics that I've used and I'd choose a Pocket 4K any day over that). I was surprised how much the AF was struggling on your A Roll footage here because I thought with the S5 II they were roughly on par with Sony's AF. I haven't had my A7IV go in and out of focus during long sitdown videos in similar lighting conditions so I was surprised. Then Sigma as a lens manufacturer is definitely Fantastic but the cameras are a swing and a miss. It kind of feels like their cameras are still in beta and actually one of the few positives I've heard about them is from people who are diehard CinemaDNG fans because I guess they just have too much free hard drive space sitting around. 🤷🏻♂
Oh I forgot to add that I think Nikon deserves Mid tier for their great photo capabilities and for jumping into the mirrorless world ahead of Canon. Still crossing my fingers and hoping they take video more seriously though.
I have to say I think you are being a little hard on Nikon and I think there is a lot of double standards. Just look at how you judged Leica & Hasselblad, when compared to Nikon.
Now let me get this straight. I have been a Nikon Shooter for 20+ years, and I have been very harsh about Nikons move over to mirrorless, and also that Nikon often think that they know more about photography than the photographers who use their system (and this goes back years).
The thing with Nikon is when they get it right, they really get it right. The Z8, Z9 and Zf, are exceptional cameras, and whilst they are brilliant for photography, they are also very good for photography. Nikons lens line up is also extremely good, and they now have over 40 lenses in their line up. With all of them being class leading for their price, and generally all very good for video.
As for pricing. The Z9 is awesome value when compared to the Sony A1, Canon R3 and even Nikon's D6. The Nikon Z8, was around the same price as the Canon R5 and Sony a7V upon release. Again for the price of their lenses, they are not cheap, but they are comparable to Sony and Canon's, offerings.
As for judging Nikon because a member of staff did not know about shutter angle of their cameras is just bush league. How many of the staff on other stands do you think would have been able to answer that question? At a show, pretty much everyone is drafted in to be on the stands, there will be some who will have a good knowledge of video, but the majority will have a basic knowledge of how to set up the camera and that is about it.
So with Nikon, I would say you are way off. They are not perfect but no company is. And before anyone complains that I am a Nikon Fanboy, my primary system now days is Fujifilm GFX, I also have a X-H2, and I own a Panasonic S1R.
Kodak do still make digital cameras, or at least they've sold the license for someone else to make them. Needless to say they are absolutely terrible, and should be on a tier below 'Get In The Bin'. Regarding Nikon, I don't use them personally, but I'm familiar with what they can do, especially in video. The Z9 for instance can do 8K video in 12-bit RAW. And do it IN CAMERA! Stuff like shutter angle is likely missing, like it is on most camera systems other than Panasonic, however stuff like manually configuring shutter speed to frame rate to conform to the 180degree rule really isn't rocket science, though the ease with which Lumix makes it is very handy. On the topic of 8K RAW in camera, you should do a video on what you expect from the S1H Mark II regarding video specs. I see it as a landmark camera for Lumix considering they now have PDAF. Either they get everything right and produce a camera on par with the Z9, Sony A1 and Canon R5 with 8k raw in camera. Either that or the goal is to price themselves competitively at a couple grand beneath the market leading cameras, which would be disappointing if they did imo, considering the absolute video wizardry Lumix illustrated in the M43 format with the GHs cameras.
This was so fun haha
You forget to put "Phase One" on the "God Tier". Just sayin' :p
I've owned over 7 Panasonic cameras, and now have 3 full frame Panasonics currently (two S5iis, one OG S5). But even I cant even DARE to put Lumix above Sony here. Lumix is absolutely not God tier yet. The S5ii is the best value in the world, don't get me wrong. But right now we don't have a single camera with 30 MP or more with workable AF. That is just too big to dismiss for "God Tier". Let alone Sony literally makes the sensors Panasonic cameras use. If you remove Sony from the camera world, the Panasonic S5ii wouldn't exist. If you remove Panasonic from the camera world, all Sony options would cover nearly all bases (except for BRAW external, which Panny is amazing for).
Since you ranked Apple cell phone cameras and you mentioned Android/Samsung cell phone cameras, you should have also ranked the Android cell phone cameras.
Still standing still with my PENTAX
Edit: I mean, still when I bought their KP camera, they are still new. The camera was from 2017, and what display from the 2000s, do you want unreliable touchscreen? And I think this is just from pure non understanding, if you don't like that they are still making DSLRs and calling them stupid for that, is just something else, they have mirror less mode, but why use more battery, just use your own god damn eyes.
The first of your videos I've seen. looks like you lean more towards videography than stills. Interesting to hear your thoughts. So here's my two cents. Sony is not a camera manufacturer. They're an electronics warehouse. Almost zero support. I would run from them as fast as I can. The Canon RF lenses are ridiculous. I agree they're very expensive and not the image look that I go for. Sony was the same in the beginning not having a large native lens selection. I will continue to adapt lenses to my Canon, but at least Canon makes your own lenses unlike Sony. I would have moved Nikon up on the list because I don't do videos. Thank you for sharing your thoughts It's good to think about what equipment Is available. One last thing, why Sigma lenses? I will never use that brand but to each their own.
I think u have not seen Z8 it's a tru hybrid system. 4k120 422 pro res raw in camera. A beast. Must try. Good video man as always
nobody seen it cause they got them back since the straps fell off and the mounts dont lock the lenses ....hehe, sorry but that was a reaally bad move from nikon
Agreed. The ranking on Nikon was pretty bad. Considering he put Sigma two levels higher, WTF?
@@sardanapalos that, like all recalls, was a super small issue that got huge publicity. Very few actual cases. Doesn't take away from the fact that the Z8/Z9 are great hybrids. Panasonic needs a new flagship.
@@nickcarneyphotography sure i just say that when you pay so much its really frustrating to have any issue... Nikon had same issues with dslr's ...like sony has with some shutters... def pana needs a new EVA. Thats what we all wait from panny
@@sardanapalos 100%, I just think a lot of Sony fanboys are using it as a way to discount the Z8 as a whole, which is ridiculous. They would love if Sony made an A1 for $2000 less. Hell, they'd love it if their Sony got the features of the cameras that are $2000 less lol. But yeah, Panasonic has just been really slow and unfortunately it caused me to move over to Nikon because I couldn't wait any longer for a high-MP camera from Lumix with PDAF and no recording limits.
Blackmagic is God tier... Budget cinema camera... If you're judging a camera on how it looks - you're using it wrong. Sony fanboidom sucks, Z tier. And Z cam you can't base on the fact they don't send you a camera hahaha
DJI?
Caiinaaa
Haha the iPhone lacks dynamic range and details compared to most android and has to much oversharpening
You put Fujifilm in "Fantastic" based on XT3 experience???!!!! And that too with Red?? and above Black Magic?? And Apple makes it to GOD TIER!!!!!! I don't know whats happening here!!!
Wow! this is the first time I felt the need to comment on someone's tier list because it was so unintelligent. Tell me you gargle social media nuts without telling me.
Poor Pentax
I dont know why S1h not get so much atention like s5/S5ii. I own S5 II and S1h and prefer using S1h because of more organic look, much better screen and evf which make manual focus better. The way ibis work is also better, more natural, organic than s5ii.
Autofocus. It isnt hard to figure out. 99% of people care more about AF and size than anything else. And they're right to. Most of the market is posting content to the internet, not the next Netflix series or local small business commercials.
Im panasonic user but kinefinity is WAAAAAY better than blackmagic, its soo underrated. Just make a research
You can't really go around saying most andorid phones cameras are bad when in the end, most iphone vs android comparisons are 500$ phones vs the 800+$ iphone. if the iphone doesnt beat that - then it would be really sad. but when compared to androids who are at the same price range - no one can definitively say that the iphone is better.
So you put Blackmagic in mid section due to being built in Polycarbonate bodies?
Is polycarbonate considered not good quality?
Ok.
And they make their cameras to sell their software, which actually give for free?
Probably not for Nikon and Olympus?
You probably haven't met a lot of REAL professional photographers and haven't kept up with their latest models.
The section could better be divided in "cinematic video/ action video/ portraits/ landscapes/ action stills/ wildlife/ vlogging/ vfm/ ease of use" etc it would make much more sense since different brands excel on different fields.
You definitely have something against Sony
Downranking the entire Nikon line because of one photo-centric person you met at a conference is absurd.
You seem to be a little too biased Josh! I use Lumix and it’s great and I love it, but not a God Tier as they are costantly chasing the market whereas Sony is leading it! If you look at what Sony offers in its entirety it is a God Tier. Your criteria is a little off!
Nikon probably not ? Are you mad ? Nikon is one of the heavy hitters in the world of cameras.
Xiaomi 14 ultra?
Is better than iPhone 😂
Or honor magic6 pro ❤
