This is something. The Eastern Roman empire that survived after the West fell, was no more. It had thrived after Rome collapsed and saw great progress. I see the fall of Constantinople like that of Troy and Carthage. Constantine went out and died like a man. Along with his soldiers. Had the West responded to the siege of the city, history would've been different.
Sì, lo credo anch'io. Purtroppo l'Europa era divisa e mandò pochi aiuti.

The city did not fall from an Ottoman frontal assault over the walls of the city. Once the Ottomans had bypassed the chain and placed troops on the west side of the city the following ensued. On that side, the older side of the city, existed the ghetto area inhabited by the social lower classes consisting of minorities, just as our present large cities reflect to this day. A gate in the city's wall that went by the name of the circus, since that same ghetto area located by that gate in earlier times was the location where games were held. That very gate was left unlocked that night. And fortunately for the Ottomans, who "discovered" it being unlocked, were able to flood into the city and the rest is history. How, why, who, did this oversight occur will remain a mystery. My opinion, people of the ghetto were involved, certain members were rewarded well. It's a theory based on the fact that the Ottomans did enter the city at that point. Suggestion, do your research, avoid the "revisionist rewriters" of history and research original classical history. Hit the books, AI knows jacks**t.
7500 vs 70000 ??? Why is that almost always armies fighting against Muslims conquestors are much smaller. Certainly, if at least people of Constantinople joined they couldn't at least match if not outnumbered the Ottomans. Fall of Constantinople set the events in motion which caused such tragic destruction, rape, loot and plunder of European civilization for centuries to come, the effects of which we're feeling to this day. Even if one of the kingdoms of Greeks, Italians, Hungary, Russia, HRE, France etc could've helped even with a tiny force of 20-30 thousand men, even with their worst soldiers, Constantinople would have been saved. I believe the Venetians and many other oligarchical powers didn't want Constantine to rule anymore and helped Mehmed with finance and intelligence of which Venetians were notorious of, to take down Constantinople ending the Byzantine Empire. Such a shame. European infighting has caused so much chaos, death, misery for Europe for 2 millennia.

Byzantium was not Roman. Hellinism was destroyed by xians in 4th and 5th centuries and the East morphed into an ugly alternate kingdom with torturers and the powerful church.

The black plague decimated around 60 % of the population of Constantinople and the decline of the empire led to a population loss.
