With Mwai Kibaki’s election as Kenya’s president in 2002, political change brought a new investigation into the murder of Dr Robert Ouko, Kenya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs murdered in February 1990. But was the Parliamentary Select Committee’s further investigation diligent and fair? Was the PSC’s chairman Gor Sungu impartial? Or was the PSC just a show trial? What of the Ouko murdered at State allegations made by one George Wajakoyah? Had many witnesses mysteriously died? Why did the PSC’s “star witness”, Marianne Briner-Mattern dramatically change her story to one of Ugandan prostitutes being supplied to President Moi? Did Briner-Mattern have an “intimate relationship” with Moi as she claimed? Did a US Embassy official have lunch with one of Ouko’s murders? The murder of Dr Robert Ouko - who was innocent? Who was guilty? Could new DNA testing solve Ouko’s murder mystery? And has Kenya repeat learnt from the past or will we make the same mistakes again?

This was very compelling. Growing up, like many Kenyans I heard the rumor that implicated Biwott and Moi, bought it completely and repeated it as 'fact' probably because it was the only theory out there. If Biwott truly had nothing to do with Ouko's murder then it's very sad that he had to bear the burden of being labelled the 'Ouko killer' all his life. However, I find it interesting that this documentary completely 100% rules out his involvement. His participation in this documentary by accepting to be interviewed, something he rarely did, if ever, especially on the subject of Ouko's death, raises questions in my mind. Did Biwott sponsor this documentary before he died? It seems well researched but almost everyone interviewed dispels the Biwott theory. Very compelling but raises questions about objectivity.

I wish this was released when Hon. Biwott was still alive, if it is true then, together with Moi, have been branded killers wrongly for many years. However,God will punish the actual killers of Mr. Ouko (may his soul R.I.P). I didn't know we have a brilliant investigative journalist in Kenya as this guy, congrats for a well done job.

Jamaa it was aired on Kenya TV some few weeks or months before Biwott died. It was actually rumoured to have been released to try and clear his name in case he passed on as he had been ailing for a long time.
The sad part is that you find this brilliant. These guys were said to have been paid to clear someone's name . But it did not work out. People still mourned Ouko loudly the minute it was announced the person had died.
They only posted part 1 on youtube then removed it but yes it was aired on Kenya national TV and largely FAILED to achieve the desired results.
If you believe this then you might as well as believe that Dr Ouko never died in the first place.
My only question is whose name are they trying to clear now?????

After finishing this episode, there is substantial evidence to who might have been involved in Ouko's murder.
There are many unanswered questions. Most importantly why would a British doctor examine Ouko's body? Who was Ouko's neighbour James Oyoo a current govt official visiting in Swiss and UK at the time Ouko was on govt trip?
There was no substantial evidence of bad blood if they were all in the same party and Ouko acting as govt spokesman on govt trips abroad. It is to my opinion that the report Ouko had to submit sidelined the British from their marriage with Kenya after their US visit. Information could have spilled out to intelligence and the rest happened. Family feuds and local political rivalry was used to cover up the murder. His political friends were used as sacrificial lambs. Moi could have been blackmailed to expose his private life so is Biwot. There has been stories that Biwot was always on the run until his death, never ate at public places and sometimes exchanged cars while on a trip. From whom was he running?
Why did Moi suddenly agree for a multiparty state in 92 after a failed coup? All are related to diplomatic relations which lie with the foreign affairs ministry. Food for thought.

Well..if anyone remembers very well, President Moi issued a statement after Dr.Ouko was reported missing...that he should Dr Ouko should report to the nearest Police station that he was alive and anyone else who knew his whereabouts should do the same. Protocol would demand Moi do some official finding out from his family, telephones, aides, government officials and homeland security...The government's actions and propaganda machine then acted very suspiciously and thats why if any theories came up was a direct response. Like all believers here..if the killers are not known by human beings..then know this..no one can hide from OUR FATHER OF CREATION!!!!!

For the first time since Ouko's murder, I have promptly dropped Nicholas Biwott and Moi as the undisputed murderers of Ouko. If Moi (or Biwott for that matter), in a moment of involuntary insanity, perceived Ouko as a potential threat to their power, Moi's style was to promptly sack him and probably follow it with detention (even without trial). I repent for falling for a lie. Didn't like the way Sungu treated Biwott at the PSC sitting.

15.11 Willy Mutunga "Nobody wants the truth" - WHAT is the truth? What is Mutunga's version of who killed Ouko? Kenyans might not have clear unimpeachable minute by minute details of what happened to the late minister on his last day on earth, but they are keenly aware of the people who had the motive and the means to prevent effective investigation & disclosure. If people in power/authority frustrate & stymie investigations, they then should not be frustrated/surprised that the finger of suspicion sits heavily upon them. It is completely unacceptable that citizens get conditioned to feel that these kind of crimes are investigated without courage/integrity, and finally are painfully unresolved.

This one-sided pro Moi & pro Biwott piece should appear properly only under the personal TH-cam pages of these two journalists. Kenya has talent but the brown envelope syndrome is alive and well as can be discerned by the tone of this "episodes". It is obvious after skimming through the episodes that the main task from start to end is not to highlight the sad reality that a nation's foreign minister was murdered callously, the investigation thwarted, and the killers did not face justice in a court of law. The main reason for these episodes shamefully hosted by Citizen TV TH-cam pages is to strenuously defend & sanitize Moi and Biwott.

  • @silvershsadow2045

Njoroge and Minns do a good analytical job . however they seem to exonerate everyone and justify that position . Surely somebody must have killed Ouko with a motive , and that person must be from among all these suspects unless you want to suggest that it was someone else completely . It would seem that Oyugi knew something . Maybe even within the extended family , because successful people usually attract a lot of enemity , rivalry , jealousy and hatred within the clan . Probably the family and Moi had an idea , which is why Mrs Ouko said that the suspects in the book may not be the ones , suggesting that she had an idea of the truth , but maybe its just too sinister to think about or reveal . RIP Dr Ouko .

To be honest, that piece of perfomance at the very beginning of every episode is absolutely absurd and ridiculous! It's annoying! What does the book of Job have to do with all of this? And why is he even reciting scriptures on sensitive matters as these? It only makes it more dramatic and adds no sense at all! On another note, all the 6 episodes i watched were quite informative. You examined the subject in depth and very carefully. Thank you for bringing clarity. The only problem we still have is that, nobody has solved this mystery. We still don't know who killed Mr. Ouko and what the motive could have been!- We are back to square -1 where we can only conclude that he was killed out jealousy by a blockhead political jackass who couldn't stand his intelligence and bravery!
