MURDER AT GOT ALILA | Episode 2: The Washington trip

  • ‘My friend the President
In late January 1990 President Moi led a Kenyan delegation to Washington D.C. for a ‘Prayer Breakfast’ attended by President George W. Bush. With him was Dr Robert Robert Ouko, Kenya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. Was there a ‘row’ during the Washington trip? Did Ouko have a secret meeting with President Bush? Was Oulo sacked and banished by his President. Was he sent back on a different flight? Did Ouko row with Energy Minister Nicholas Biwott? Was this the motive for Ouko’s murder? Previously ‘Secret’ and ‘Confidential’ US diplomatic telexes, film and photographic evidence, and testimony from those involved tell the true story.

Biwott had Ouko kidnapped and brought to state house Nakuru. He had him kneel down in front of President Moi and he ordered him to confess that he was undermining the president and apologize. Ouko did as he was told.
Biwott then pretended to be very angry and pulled out a gun and shot Ouko twice as he was still kneeling down.
Biwott then apologized to Moi, saying he had been overwhelmed by anger at how Ouko was undermining his government.
    Facts.

I have watched uncountable crime documentaries and one thing I have come to realize is that most murderers never mention or call their victims by name. Biwott in this interview has for the whole part refered to Ouko as he/him.... He is trying to distance himself because his pure conscience cannot fathom the very violent acts metted on Ouko thanks to him. I hope he trully repented because God does not forgive unconfessed sin.

the truth is in the Washington meeting, the Americans have covered it up by telling us about their President's itinerary and his whereabouts but we are not told where Ouko was. the Americans had an eye for Kenya and needed someone with more insight of what was going on in the country like Ouko to deal with..the Americans have washed off their hands however it seems their plans to work with Ouko might have triggered the murder of Ouko. Why would the President fly away not to return while he was hosting Heads of States?
The people denying there was no meeting whatsoever cannot really convince me because even at the beginning of this documentary we are told the trip was termed private trip and not a State visit, the President left with a delegation 83 ministers since the 27th of Jan and they returned back in Kenya on the 4th, we are also told of opportunities for meetings behind the scene,is it not possible President Bush and Ouko met in these meetings behind the scenes..years later crucial information is released and anybody can type up itinerary and backdate it, I don't buy that evidence at all!
There is a contradiction about the visit to America..President Moi was being adviced not go..Mbajjah mentions it in his statement, Dennis Afande later claims he is the one who advised that the President should not go@9;00-9;26 ( he seems to be confessing sthg indirectly) but President Moi goes anyway and later Afande in this video is ironically happy @11;27 that the meeting went well despite not wanting President Moi to go for the meeting in America. Could it be Ouko was preferred by Americans? why was Afande scared of the President showing up for the meeting. sthg is not clear here!
    Lisemwalo lipo!!

The problem with Ouko is that he went it alone, without empowering his fellow tribesmen. See, Moi roped in Biwott, and later Ruto and ofcourse made mistakes with Uhuru. Unfortunately people from the lakeside love to centralise power, and when you end up in the cross hairs, you have no one to watch your back. If you don't believe me, watch what will happen when Raila dies. Because he has never taken it upon himself to prop up anyone to take over.

I feel Ouko was too much a beloved to Moi and was his ultimate puppet for Moi to do anything bad to him . Even after his death , the call for the Scotland yard to investigate his death shows Moi had his doubts about the people around him . It all had to do with corruption and dealing among ministers , main man Oyugi who had the audacity to say it was Suicide .

    • @georgeodhiambo598

Then why did Moi disband the Gicheru Commission when they were getting real close to naming the people who killed Ouko? Moi-Biwott-Oyugi-Anguka in that order of decreasing criminality. That was the evil axis behind the murder and cover up of Ouko's death. And when Oyugi wanted to squeek by offering to testify before the Gicheru Commission, he was also silenced. There is no honour among murderers . They ultimately eat themselves.

No the real criminal was ranks above Oyugi. The same criminal effected the removal of Oyugi from the centre of power to become the Chairman of General Motors and his eventual elimination. As the Gicheru Commission got down to work they started with peripheral issues (eg family misunderstandings, petty love affairs outside marriage, etc) to do away with them. But when the Commission started delving into the politics of corruption at the molasses factory, Moi got alarmed. It was made worse that Oyugi, who had already been removed from the centre of power expressed willingness to testify. The axis that was responsible for planning, execution and cover up of Ouko murder was Moi-Biwott-Oyugi-Anguka in that order of descending criminality. Oyugi was involved but he was not sitting at the apex. That's is why he was dispensed with when the mission was completed and it was thought that he could be a threat to those who were sitting at the apex (Moi and Biwott) by talking. Join the dots. @@kenngigi2470 Ouko was not a threat to Moi politically. He had no mass following. He wasn't well networked. He wasn't a politician in the real sense of the word, but more of an administrator. He didn't have any wing of govt loyal to him. He didn't create such a wing. Firing Ouko would not have been a hard thing at all for Moi. He was naively loyal to Moi, almost child-like. Ouko's death arose from the politics of corruption around the molasses plant. He had alot of information on the corruption scandal but he made the fatal mistake of thinking that Moi and Biwott were reading from different scripts, and made the mistake of singing out his heart to Moi thinking he was reporting Biwott, when he was actually reporting the thief (Biwott) to the Chief thief(Moi). That is what sealed his fate. He had alot of damaging information on the scandal. The state was keen to lay its hands on a report Ouko was preparing on the scandal and Anguka was the one who was assigned the task of obtaining that report. That was laid bare in the public domain during Gicheru commission hearings. And there was this amoral woman by the name Brinner who was double dealing with all the three of them (Moi, Biwott and Ouko) and secretly passing information back and forth. It added excitement and great danger in the plot.

@@kenngigi2470 Ouko was not a political threat to Moi in any way. Ouko was more of an administrator than a politician. A simple lunchtime news bulletin would have moved him to a less connected ministry like foreign affairs. Why didn't Moi follow that route? It is because Ouko had very damaging information regarding corruption at the molasses plant. He made the fatal mistake of reporting his findings to Moi while implicating Biwott. He didn't know Moi and Biwott were merely different sides of the same coin. And indeed, when Gicheru commission started delving into molasses plant, Moi panicked and did some dramatic and most uncharacteristic things to help in transferring the process back into the hands of the executive which, together with Biwott they could control.

Biwott and Moi had already benefitted from the corruption at the molasses plant. But Ouko obtained damaging and credible information that could disrupt the gravy train. He reported to Moi implicating Biwott and cried his heart out not realizing that he was reporting the thief (Biwott) to the Chief thief (Moi). The two thieves were reading from the same page. That's how Ouko's fate was sealed.

Absolutey none. Why would the state get involved in the cover up of the murder of its own Foreign Minister? Both Moi and Biwott were in the thick of things. Oyugi got roped in as one of the hatchet men. Anguka was involved in the attempted cover up. This was a state driven operation. And it was about high level corruption in connection with the mollasses plant. The rest were just a smokescreen.

Which lakeside people don't want to hear of this? When and where did you carry out such a survey?Ouko was murdered by the evil axis of Moi-Biwott-Oyugi-Anguka in that order of descending criminal responsibility. This is the axis that had the motive and the CAPACITY to plan, execute and cover up the murder. And Oyugi was quickly gotten out of the way soon after Ouko's murder when he indicated willingness to testify before the commission. He knew too much to be let loose. Many other people who could have known a few things about Ouko's murder followed suit. Anguka was made the fall guy and left holding the pieces as the lone suspect. That left only the two masterminds of the plan standing, Moi and Biwott. These two villains carried the greatest responsibility for Ouko's death. No level of sugarcoating will change. And the issue was the politics around corruption at the molasses factory.
