I was a telecom lineman and supervisor for many years. I would never ever, nor let my crew, drop their trash. If something did fall, the groundman picked it up immediately.
Wait until work is done above head before you pick things up, I wouldn't go pickup a zip tie on the ground while the guy accidentally drops a wrench on my neck.
Little bit of advice get a set of 9s cut the coating off them weld a 7/16 and 1/2 deep well socket on either side of the handle put shrink boot on for a coating won’t need two tools when you go up for new build, but I do carry a set of cable cutters with me in case I need to cut a strap
I carry the tools for any situation. Plus the tools I have are completely broken in and been in use for little over a decade so they're reliable in a pinch like a pickle.
If there was a lead hand on that crew he wasn’t doing his job. He should have never let you climb with no gloves, he should have kept the other guys out of the fall zone, that bolt should have been replaced , the lashing was wrapped incorrectly on the left side of the pole,. Other than that congratulations on getting into the industry , it fed and housed my family for over 40 years

It's a pain to go to every pole that should just need comcast tags and fiber carrots and add 2 more bugnuts, unwrap each piece of lashing wire, wrap it correctly and put each on it's own bugnut like it should have been done the first time. But i guess that's what our company gets for hiring contractors that don't know what they're doing. Every company is different regarding them. To my benefit my company didn't care what you did, this was the fasest way for me in terms of getting the bug done.

Isn't it hard to climb so close to the pole and with your squeeze so tight on the pole? As I've gained experience climbimg I've learned it's much easier to climb with slack on your rope to let you have room from the pole. Lets you really lock your knees out easy. Having a little more slack on the squeeze on the pole lets you flick your wrist as you climb instead of pulling the whole squeeze up. You can tighten it when you get up if ya want.
