I rented a P2 from Hertz at Heathrow in January 2023 when I needed to go up to Scotland. I had booked it in December '22. When I went to collect it, it had only 6 miles on the clock and had been registered just 3 days earlier. So purely delivery milage and I was the first to drive it. The rental and charging worked out cheaper than filling my own Volvo V70 with petrol however many times as would have been necessary.

When I bought it still had 7500 federal and 750 state rebates to offset the cost a bit as well as 2 year free EA charging.
By coincidence, last week we were scheduled to test drive a Polestar 2 in CA, but had to cancel. This video tells me the essentials of what we would have missed. I now know that I would much prefer Kathy's GV60 over this without question. The lane change and keep functions in both those vehicles are like Tesla's "standard" AP (not the "enhanced" version) -which I actually prefer! Thanks, Dave.
I tested one two different times now. Overall it's a really nice EV, but with some serious interior design problems. The center console needs a complete redesign, as you hitting your knee shows. It's a complete mess and waste of space, as the cupholder in the armrest shows. Horrible visibility out of the rear window and poor rear leg space, with the battery tunnel intruding through the entire cabin. Having said that, the performance of the AWD and the very well integrated infotainment system is a big hit. I'm only 5'5" and it's not the car for me. I ended up with a Kia EV6 GT-Line AWD instead.

Tesla releases lane centering when the turn signal is on as you begin to turn, otherwise you have a bit of a fight. I almost always use turn signals but if I forget, it reminds me.
Hi Dave, great video, in the future please do us a favor, unlike most of us you have and assumedly will continue to test drive many of the new EVs, if you agree it's a good idea please add some comparative assessments, for example, it seems like your model 3 video with you and your wife you were both more comfortable in the model 3 which is valuable insight because from the outside the Polestar appears to be a larger vehicle than the model 3 so someone like me who has never been in either vehicle would have never known how cramped the Polestar felt comparatively. Another example is you had the model S as well, I never got the impression your head hit the roof or your legs were cramped and that is something you would actually expect in the model S.
Great review. I'm 5ft 8in and it fits me fine so it is all about driver size and proportions. Polestars are much better screwed together than Teslas although the Chinese and Berlin built cars we get in Europe are much improved. You were actually driving the 300kW AWD car - look for the stickers on the lower front doors when you check out a Polestar - which is certainly the best handling version, although this may change when they when they move the single motor version from FWD to RWD later this year to give a more rearward handling bias.
My first experience with Tesla was the Model Y I rented from Hertz (also LAX) last year. Took it to Vegas for 5 days and LOVED it. I really want to try a Polestar 2 for this year's trip, but I only want the Performance Pack. The website reservations page shows a Polestar 2 w/Performance Pack but I wonder what are the odds of actually getting one. I didn't realize they had Polestar 1. very interesting.
You should invest in a small, portable, suction cup phone mount for your driving shots. It's unsafe to hold the camera and blabber on. OK I liked the video though.
This Polestar2 is a Longrange dualmotor.300KW.660NM torque.Thats alot..Your car did not have the Plus package $4000.Glassroof,vegan seats, more adjustible and H&K stereo system.

I've been in UX and design for 25 years. Whoever designed the cupholder, armrest really has no idea what they are doing. This does not bode well for the rest of the interior which is designed very poorly overall. Even the cheapest cars in the market have better cupholders and UX. Two decades ago, Europeans shunned cup holders but today customers bring beverages into the car for convenience. This is quite appalling to see in 2023.
I did a video on this car at the LA auto show. Without driving it I could only comment on the interior, but I thought it was cramped (for a big guy) and not that high quality for the money. I don’t know how someone would buy this over a model 3 or Ioniq 5/EV6 from a value proposition. Great video!
When the fed tax credit was still available it was a good deal with Tesla raising prices. Today the used P*2 is $10,000 than a Model Y Perf and just a better all around vehicle.
Doesn't look too impressive, the cockpit reminds me of a Camaro where you are sitting low with poor visibility and cramped surroundings. About the same battery size and mileage ratings and the ev6 / Ioniq 5 but those seem to have a much nicer layout. The difference is they are much roomier and on the upper trims you get highway drive assist 2 and that seems more advanced to this system.
My wife who is barely 5 ft legs were cramped in the front seat and she said it feels so cramped. This is with the seat forward enough to give the rear passenger decent legroom. The hatchback has barely any benefit because the rear hatch area is too narrow when the seats are folded down. Reminds me of the space we had in my old Acura RSX hatchback.
@@Dark_Vader888 I know right? So weird that cars designed by the Swedes who are one of the tallest peoples in the world can fit in this, but it does not work for certain individuals! Like I said, you have to try it for yourself
Does anyone know why Polestar put that 'drivetrain' hump in the back seat? Why include that if there's no drive train? One of the best part of EV's was the elimination of that hump for more floorspace and less crowding.
Very good video. That was an all wheel drive model (based on the 300kW on the door sticker). It had the Pilot package, giving you the ADAS functions, but not the Plus package. The Plus package gives you the full power driver and passenger seats. With the options it has it should have been priced around $55k, which is a bit much considering the interior space versus its competition. I felt it a bit cramped on my test drive and I'm a little shorter than you.
I've rented from Turo several times. Mostly good experiences with one very bad experience. The best advice I can give is to read each leasor and car's fine print and check how much mileage is included in the rental price. Some shifty leasors appear to have great deals and deliberately include inadequate mileage and charge outrage surcharges for milage overages. Unless the app has changed since I last used it, this can be difficult to understand in the rental summary. I rented for five days, and what I thought was my allotted miles per day (as every other number on that screen was per day) was for the full five day period. Needless to say I went way over and it would've been much cheaper to rent from Enterprise. Every other time I used Turo it was great, though.
So much nicer than the sparse Tesla interior, would never buy a 3 or y simply because of the interior and the lack of a face. It’s very marmite, but I really dislike the look of a Tesla, not for me but as I say very marmite, many love them
Center consoles have gotten too big. My RAV4 Prime likewise has too big of a console. Most of the controls that have migrated to consoles over the years could easily migrate back to the dash or steering column as on Teslas. The makers also have moved HVAC components, etc. into the interiors of consoles (the front end at least) which requires consoles to grow. If I have to give up the middle front seat that sedans used to have for a console, I at least want the console space to be all mine, for storage, drinks, etc. rather than transmisson controls, other extraneous knobs, and who-knows-what underneath the console. Most of the space inside Tesla 3/Y consoles is accessible space for storage, even if they're somewhat plain looking.
Ugh, I'm only half way through and the car is so bad. The graphics in the binnacle looks like something from 2000-2007. All I can think of is something cheap and chevy at 13:34.
Hi David, who owns the right to the music used on the out of spec, Dave title card? Just had a wearer experience. A TH-cam ad for the VW T-ROC in the UK uses the same music. The T-Roc is a small, petrol powered SUV. I had one as a company car and are very poorly made. They were the start of VW cheapening the parts to save money. The clutch shattered after 2000 miles. Odd that VW are using the same music.
Nice rental Dave. I love the look of the Polestar 2 but find it's too crampy for me that centre console is too big. Does that EV6 have a sticker on the chargeport that says it only takes unleaded electrons? ;) Very Jealous though, would love to rent one myself just to try it out and see as Jack(Fully Charged Host 6'5") owns one in the UK. It has the 2nd best route planner after Tesla's uses the Google Android Automotive(not Android Auto) system like the Volvo EV's and new Renault Megane e-Tech.
I’ve rented a Polestar 2 at Enterprise and also Hertz. Polestar 2 and Tesla m3 are rented at about the same price. Model Y is higher. Although I’m much shorter than Dave, I did not like the width of console limiting leg room. It felt cramped. Range is not great. It’s not an EV I would buy, especially since it’s made in China.
The Polestar 2 looks absolutely amazing from the outside -- front, back, sides. But once you open the door, it looks so very cheap and crappy -- Tesla-like or Mach-E-like, and not in a good way. Why couldn't Polestar put vertical infotainment screens nicely embedded into the dashboard like so many other BEV makers, and why couldn't they retain more physical buttons/dials for climate and audio controls? Then you get to the slow-charging architecture and poor range. Such a great start, but such a bad finish to this car. If Polestar and Volvo realy want to succeed in making BEVs, they'd better stop trying to emulate Tesla and looking instead at EV6, Taycan, etc., for their interiors...
It's not a cheap interior. Materials are good and this is the entry-level. It feels like a rock solid car to drive. The cars following the Polestar 2 will have a more open interior, the Polestar 3 and 4.
😂 early adapters pay for the privilege of being the Ginie Pig 🐷 ... Toss in clunky charging Apps & stations, incredibly exspencive repairs and the cost of battery replacement will bankrupt you.
I hate this car. Too uncomfortable. My right knee is raw from rubbing on the middle console. Very poor interior design. Terrible charging options for my cellphone. Cup holder placement is ridiculous. Huh? I'm 5'11" and I find it extremely comfortable. How could it not fit a 5'2" person. My wife is 5'5" and adores it.
@@BrandonRyan I’m sure at 5’5” she could see out of the car from the low position. I could not. My husband didn’t like the low / enclosed feeling and didn’t think it felt comfortable overall. He
Best part of that car is the side view mirrors. Beautiful frameless design. That and CarPlay of course
Tesla releases lane centering when the turn signal is on as you begin to turn, otherwise you have a bit of a fight. I almost always use turn signals but if I forget, it reminds me.
Great video dave,im surprised u could put seat all the way back to help with your leg room, guess it's not good for tall people
Hi Dave, great video, in the future please do us a favor, unlike most of us you have and assumedly will continue to test drive many of the new EVs, if you agree it's a good idea please add some comparative assessments, for example, it seems like your model 3 video with you and your wife you were both more comfortable in the model 3 which is valuable insight because from the outside the Polestar appears to be a larger vehicle than the model 3 so someone like me who has never been in either vehicle would have never known how cramped the Polestar felt comparatively. Another example is you had the model S as well, I never got the impression your head hit the roof or your legs were cramped and that is something you would actually expect in the model S.
Congratulations on 1 million views Dave! Thanks for all the great videos.
Great review. I'm 5ft 8in and it fits me fine so it is all about driver size and proportions. Polestars are much better screwed together than Teslas although the Chinese and Berlin built cars we get in Europe are much improved. You were actually driving the 300kW AWD car - look for the stickers on the lower front doors when you check out a Polestar - which is certainly the best handling version, although this may change when they when they move the single motor version from FWD to RWD later this year to give a more rearward handling bias.
i love the look of the polestar but it does seem cramped inside
My first experience with Tesla was the Model Y I rented from Hertz (also LAX) last year. Took it to Vegas for 5 days and LOVED it. I really want to try a Polestar 2 for this year's trip, but I only want the Performance Pack. The website reservations page shows a Polestar 2 w/Performance Pack but I wonder what are the odds of actually getting one. I didn't realize they had Polestar 1. very interesting.
You should invest in a small, portable, suction cup phone mount for your driving shots. It's unsafe to hold the camera and blabber on. OK I liked the video though.
He said his favorite EV is Lucid Air
Dave, I rented a Polestar last July and got the same errors-turned out the right side mirror was not tilting for park etc.
This Polestar2 is a Longrange dualmotor.300KW.660NM torque.Thats alot..Your car did not have the Plus package $4000.Glassroof,vegan seats, more adjustible and H&K stereo system.
Thanks for this context. I really didn’t know ! :)
@@dconner9 I got this car with the performance pack, and the pilot pack(pilot assist,360 camera, and some safety addons)$2000 only aswell.Im 193cm tall, but i like the cockpit feeling. It just take som adjustment to set the seats. The google map navigation is very nice on roadtrips. The % soc on arravial is very precise. You can filter the nav system to find only EA stations if you want to use them only.
Center console is one of the worst designs I have ever seen. Needs redesign badly.
@Stuttgart Roy I. That case just wait for redesign of console.
Today the used P*2 is $10,000 than a Model Y Perf and just a better all around vehicle.
the non-synced climate is triggering......!
Great review. Thanks for your perspective.
All I can say is, test drive it, you might be surprised how much room there is in the front seats. Book a test drive and see for yourself 🤠
Dave, You don't need to respond to the directions that the GPS calls out. She can't hear you!!😂
Very good video.
I wonder if you can do a Turo rental experience... i always wonder if i should give them a go, but i always end up with a rental company 😅
It’s very marmite, but I really dislike the look of a Tesla, not for me but as I say very marmite, many love them
Good review Dave. Polestar seems to be plagued by electronic gremlins
No glass roof 👍
Spot on again Dave.
You should try Polestar3 and ET7.
A lot to like about the vehicle. Unfortunately whoever designed the center console should be fired as its clunky and restrictive and wasteful.
love watching your video
Ugh, I'm only half way through and the car is so bad. The graphics in the binnacle looks like something from 2000-2007. All I can think of is something cheap and chevy at 13:34.
Please do a lower Fairfield county free charging locations reviews!
could u move the seat back and i guess the wheel towards yourself to get in a better position or there were issues with that
Hi David, who owns the right to the music used on the out of spec, Dave title card? Just had a wearer experience. A TH-cam ad for the VW T-ROC in the UK uses the same music. The T-Roc is a small, petrol powered SUV. I had one as a company car and are very poorly made. They were the start of VW cheapening the parts to save money. The clutch shattered after 2000 miles. Odd that VW are using the same music.
The centre console needs ripping out and complete redesign, it's terrible and really lets the car down.
I considered a Polestar but ultimately went with a Kia EV6.
Polestar has a long hood.
Why is it tight ?!
It is built on ICE platform of the XC40. Not clean sheet like Tesla.
I can’t stand those cars that you cant even get into and then force you to be cramped with a huge center console.
Seems like who ever designed that interior doesn't actually drive cars.
For such an expensive car what a cheap interior. Honestly disappointed in Volvo for even releasing something like that
This car is without the plus package....
@@trinitonv8 ah. I was wondering why it looked so bare
It's not a cheap interior. Materials are good and this is the entry-level. It feels like a rock solid car to drive. The cars following the Polestar 2 will have a more open interior, the Polestar 3 and 4.
@@trinitonv8 Plus package with nappa is fantastic
It’s based off a Volvo XC 40 car, with all the benefits and negatives.
That’s a Model 3 at 14:34, not a Y like you said.
Is this piece of junk for real? Those cheap cloth seats, terrible cup holder design and you already have problems on a brand new car?
The material is sustainable along with floor mats and other interior plastics. All recycled from your water bottles and old fish nets.
Good video.
It seems that China is behind on cupholder technology. 😅
Screen bazel much too big, big waste of screen real-estate.
This guy is clueless.
This is a terrible car. I rented one today for my first time and nothing about it makes sense. Not just that but it doesn't charge.
those door controls and other interior parts seem very scuffed and prematurely worn for the very low miles on the od. Not impressed
Dave, you have a Model A EV 😮
Yeah I’m not impressed. I’d rather buy a Volvo. I thought Polestar was their ultra luxury brand. 🤷♂️
I Love my PS2, PPP!
I hated the Polestar feels like a corvette sitting your legs in trash can
😂 early adapters pay for the privilege of being the Ginie Pig 🐷 ... Toss in clunky charging Apps & stations, incredibly exspencive repairs and the cost of battery replacement will bankrupt you.
Hertz sold off over 20,000 Teslas.
Tall people reviewing cars they can’t fit in. Always the same.
Overuse of piano black plastic and dumb storage placement.
I’d stick with tesla
I hate this car. Too uncomfortable. My right knee is raw from rubbing on the middle console. Very poor interior design. Terrible charging options for my cellphone. Cup holder placement is ridiculous. Seats are uncomfortable, especially if you’re driving hours at a time. Stick with a Model 3, don’t waste your time on this POS.
TFTC
Volvo and Polestar not more than Chinese junk
Too much yapping about nothing. 6 minutes in and we have not even sat in the damn car. Just yapping about nothing. For that reason.....IM OUT.
Recommend for midgets 😂
Im 193cm tall, and have no problems. Its just to adjust the seat correct.BTW this car got the cheapest interor.$4000 option is the plus pack with other interior.
I work for Hertz at a major airport car rental center, and our main EV service guy is a midget 😂
