New to your channel and I am LOVING your tutorials. Now I have to find the stuff to make one. Bags, Tape etc. I love your stitching too. I want one of these.Absolutely stunning.
Hi Ronda! This video "Mixed Media Fabric, Lace, & Paper Journal "How To" Part 2 {Cover} from 5-4-17, is a great one to watch! This is a great tutorial on making this type of journal cover inside & outside, front side & back side. You gave very clear instructions, & they should be easy enough to follow on my own. It is a really good idea to use that Ty-Vek mailer envelope for the base construction of the pages & the cover! It will certainly be good & strong! I really like that idea so much! Your ephemera & the decorative papers, fabrics, and laces ALL look fantastic on your new journal cover!! You did a great job on the video & a great job creating! TFS Happy Crafting & Happy Creating! Samantha
Thanks so much for all your tutorials and videos, they are great information. Love how you added the white thin batting for the stitching to stand out better. Your use of fabrics and papers are amazing and I like the added "journaling" signatures.
I just found you and I am so happy! I too am a quilter and very recently became interested in making journals. This is my aesthetic and so thank you for showing me how to combine the two!
Love, love ur work. It’s not my style but u r going to make be interested. I might just do at least one. Thank you so much for teaching and sharing ur talent.
What a beautiful journal. I love this so much!I was gifted doilies from both grandmothers. Which means I have a lot of them. This would be a perfect use for them. I always loved quilts but never learned how.Ronda your work Is so beautiful! I thank you for showing us and sharing your talent. What a cherished gift for someone. Thank you❤
awesome journal! you did a wonderful job on demonstrating how you constructed the different parts -- so precise! I can tell you are a quilter -- now you are an official mixed media artist!!!
So lovely! Your attention to detail is very impressive. I am sensitive to straight lines so I really appreciate how carefully you do your work. And all of it is just so gorgeous! You're so talented :-)
Really lovely, I love this style. Question? Where did you get the pretty pink trim that you have on the front and back covers? I love the netty look of it and I really love the color. Thanks.
Another great tutorial. However I need a little clarification . On the inside covers, do you stitch your paper or fabric to the tyvek then sew the tyvek to the inside cover? Or do you sew onto a piece of cardstock, then sew cardstock to tyvek ,then sew to inside cover? Hope I'm clear and not confusing in asking this question. Thanks in advance for answering!
I stitch pockets and embellishments to the tyvek (you can also use other papers if they're quite sturdy) and when that is done, I stitch the front and back cover together around the outside edge and on both sides of the spine. Does that make sense?
More questions: you stitched "on" your inside covers? So that stitching shows through on the front? Not afraid you will mess up what is already there? Also, you are sewing through a lot of layers when doing the outside, right? The collage pieces. 1 layer of tyvek, and the cardboard? Are you using a regular sewing machine, denim needle, concerns about stitching through adhesive? Thanks!
Hi Nancy...tyvek is a certain type of paper that is almost impossible to tear or rip. Priority mailer envelopes from USPS are made from Tyvek...you can also buy it...as the video shares, I used some I had on hand already...
I have a Janome that's been a work horse for me both with my quilting and now mixed media art. My normal stitch setting is 2.2 which I increase to anywhere to 2.8 to 4.5, depending upon the thickness of layers I'm stitching through. I stitch slower than normal as well, especially when going through thick layers...some of the older machines are better and more adaptable than newer models for that. I use as thin a needle as I can to make smaller perforations in the fabrics and papers. Every machine is different, so you really have to just try and see what works for you? Thank you for your questions!
Thanks, Ronda. I have bought a #16 needle because I keep throwing my machine out of line and bending the needle from sewing on paper. I haven't heard of anyone else with this problem, and other people use the machine I have with no problems. I admire your skills!!!
I'm sorry you're having trouble...perhaps you need to adjust your tension? Wish I could be there and stitch with you...we'd figure it out for sure!! Hang in there!!
Oh, Ronda, I wish you were here too!!! I've adjusted the tension, top and bottom, taken the entire thing apart, and none of my sewing friends can figure out what's wrong . I took it back to the Brother repair place and the woman fixed it up. It sewed for a week and then had another nervous breakdown. The woman said the problem is sewing on paper, but I know that's not true. I've now got to take it back to get it going again. :(
I am using a Janome and have never had an issue...I'm not familiar with Brother...I hope you can get things working nicely soon...it's soo much fun combining the two elements...paper and fabric!!
I make it clear in the video what I used. A combination of tyvek, and heavy cardstock. I assume that the language may be the problem...thanks for watching!
Oh my goodness! This is lovely! I discovered your channel after I saw this video posted on the Facebook group, Trashy Junk Journals. I've subscribed and can't wait to watch more videos. I hope you'll check out my channel as well. I post lots of altered books, junk journals, Flow-ish journals, etc.

Welcome aboard Mimi!! Thank you for the compliments!
Really lovely, I love this style. Question? Where did you get the pretty pink trim that you have on the front and back covers? I love the netty look of it and I really love the color. Thanks.
I have used vintage handkerchiefs and vintage lace collected through the years. I didn't buy it in a store. Sorry I can't be more helpful?
It is very pretty. You have a great eye. Thank you.
Thank you so much Diana!

Did you watch the videos all the way through?
I checked on tyvek mailers. There's a store on Etsy that sells them, and you can Google other suppliers.
Yes, since the video I've found good sources for Tyvek...have a great day! Thank you!!
I'm very new to this so I need to ask what is the tie back (paper?) u keep referring to? Enjoying your videos. TFS.

@@RondaWinsteadRondawithoutanH thx sew much. I'll chk it out. Also, thx for showing me the correct spellng..lol
What kind of sewing machine do you use. I have a costly one. I don't want to ruin it. What stich length do you use. What size needle do yo us. Thankes

Part way through video. You may answer this later but in case I forget, if you are cutting it apart, what is the purpose of the tyvek on the inside?
You cannot rip tyvek...it's extremely sturdy...that's why I use it...
Creative and beautiful!! May I ask what size needle do you use on your sewing machine to stitch through all your layers? Thanks.
I just use a regular needle...90 is it? I did buy a microfiber needle that I use for really thick layers...thank you so much for watching!
Thanks, Ronda. I have bought a #16 needle because I keep throwing my machine out of line and bending the needle from sewing on paper. I haven't heard of anyone else with this problem, and other people use the machine I have with no problems. I admire your skills!!!
