    Very intriguing design ! But the oil filter would have to be mounted vertically and could probably allow unfiltered oil into the engine ! That and very cold weather ! great video ! 👍

    Nice demo Whip. Unfortunately, if you really like these, M&H is gradually moving Wix away from shown base end bypass pieces, to dome. Just looking at it you can see how they would be more expensive to produce than dome bypass. The upside especially on smaller filters, more room for larger element, more media. As for bypass event, I'd say very cold start, especially with higher viscosity oil, more common for bypass. If your filter so loaded that it's in bypass, a very poorly maintained engine, or the engine has serious issues. Personally, I'm ok with dome or base, most filters use dome including most OEM. Thanks for demo.

      @@01mustang05 OKayyyy, 🤣 Since you asked here's it is. A dome bypass or dome bypass valve (same thing) is the bypass valve located in the dome (looks like a dome) of an oil filter. There's two ends of a filter, the base end, and the other end commonly referred to as the dome end. That description much more accurate than say, top or bottom, because that changes based on filter orientation. Topic Wix has bypass in base end, most filters have it in opposite end, i.e.,the dome end. Hope that helps. 😃

      There may be others but the only ones I can think of are this FVP in the video, Mopar, and like you said Motorcraft. Manufacturers don't use these anymore and it's probably because they cost more.

    Most all good oil filters have anti-drain back valves it is the El-Cheapo ones that don’t have it. The top 5 oil filters are: Amsoil, Mobil 1 Extended Performance, K&N, Fram, and Purolator.

      The oil filters that dont have bypass valves are the ones that are meant to go on engines that already have their own bypass valves in the engine. th-cam.com/video/y8WpGE6SqXw/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Scruf%27sGarage

      @@Antiliblife187 I hate tell you this Fram is lot better oil filter than people think even their El-Cheapo oil orange can filter can last 10,000-miles on an oil change interval (OCI) and I have looked this up the Frame Xtra Guard Ultra Synthetic can go 20,000-miles on a OCI. If you buy their top of the line oil filter called Fram Endurance Guard it will last 25,000-miles on a OCI. I personally prefer either Mobil 1 or K&N because Mobil 1 has a higher percentage in micron filtration greater than 30-microns. I also like K&N oil filters for two reasons if you are a DIY guy you don’t need a special filter wrench 🔧 all you need is a 1” open end nut wrench 🔧 or a socket wrench 🔧 that is 1” in width on the end of a 1/2 inch drive ratchet wrench 🔧 because there is a nut at the bottom of a K&N filter. Also, it can handle 150-PSI in oil pressure which, is way more PSI than any street car will ever see. It tells how durable that filter is and it is racing inspired oil filter. 🙂

    I fail to see any big advantage to having the bypass valve on the base versus the other end. Both do the same thing at the end of the day.

    • @WhipCityWrencher
      @WhipCityWrencher  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      With a bypass on the base end, the oil doesn't have to go all the way to the other end of the oil filter and this makes less of a chance of dislodging any loose particles like excess glue from the filter media, especially useful with a vertically mounted oil filter.
      Thanks!

    In a modern engine, with modern oils, if your filter is clogged with particulates big enough to wash off and go into your engine through a top-end bypass valve, you've got bigger problems. The sole function of a bypass valve in a modern engine is to ensure oil flow when the oil is so cold (and thick) that it can't readily make it through the element. The base-end bypass valve was developed back when engine sludging was a real (and common) issue, therefore the need for having the oil bypass the filter element before it flows over the element.

      Agree but still a lot of people don’t change the oil. This would save an engine from starvation. Less dirty oil or not.

      @GT-mn3bx 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Extended drain intervals is why so many engines blow up today. Then you read people change their oil but not filter. Dumbest thing I've ever heard of.
