First Ride On A Honda Rebel 1100 Manual. Should I Have Got The DCT?

- Today I dropped off the Honda CL500 and Picked up this lovely Honda Rebel 1100 with a Manual Gear box. Last year we reviewed the DCT version of this motorcycle and in this video I discuss the pros and cons of the double clutch transmission and there manual version to help you decide which one is the right choice when you're buying this motorbike.
If you own one of these bikes, tell me in the comment section bellow which gear box you went for and WHY!?

Totally agree regarding the riding community & the ridiculing of certain bikes over others or the size of engine over others. To me, riding a bike, any bike from a 50cc to 1000cc is now the last bastion for feeling free even if it's just for an hour or two. Those few hours are enough to make some sort of sense in a world that at times makes no sense.
I've had my manual 2022 CMX1100 Rebel since May of 2022 and I love it. Wouldn't switch to DCT for the world :D
Same
I have been riding for 50 years, i didnt know changing gear was so hard. I have an automatic car with manual choice. Bike gearbox is part of the involvement of riding, i would go for the manual version.
...until you get arthritis...
Agree with your views on the 'haters'. I have my preferences in bikes, but I wouldn't criticise other biker's choices. I have to say your presenting style is coming along very nicely, too. A vey enjoyable vid. Ta!
100% agree , too many haters .
So far I am a fan of the CL500. Picked it up a few weeks ago. Seems like a good starter bike that can last as long as i want it to. Hope everyone is having as much fun as I am riding their choice of bike.
I like them too.
I like the look too but for me I'd extend the front mudguard over the wheel and either remove the top mudguard and light surround or have them painted satin black.
My bike only has the lower one. I didn't get the kit with any of the white plastic parts. No off-roading so far but in the wet the stock fender seems to do fine.
I ride a Harley Davidson FXLRS 117 M8, I challenge anyone to hate it in any way, I think sometimes haters are actually jealous, I love riding motorcycles and what it does for my soul and sanity.
I'm not a Harley fan but my brothers are, they are beautiful bikes and Harley makes the most beautiful looking engines, I love British stile bikes Royal Enfield's and Triumphs and BSA's however you can I agree one one thing "I love riding motorcycles and what it does for my soul and sanity" Cheers.
Well of course they're jealous. Sour grapes n all....
@@jamesonpace726Jealous? Seriously?
Ah, ha, ha, ha! 🤣
Nice try.😄
You like Harley's, that's absolutely fine. Just don't ever say there are those in the community who are jealous because they don't have one. 🤭
@avro9707 Every major brand has overpriced bikes, Triumph, BMW, Ducati all have motorcycles over 20k.
@@markfranks1329 My first ride was a Triumph T100, then I owned a T120 which I loved, the first bike I ever rode was a Honda. I love motorcycles and if money was no object I would have Triumphs, Ducati and maybe an Arch KR.
I test rode one of these and really liked it. For a balance of value, practicality and cruiser ergonomics, it ticks so many boxes and then add reliability in too. Yes it would be nice if it was a v-twin, but you get the benefit of the Honda parallel twin with its mile munching ability. Zero chrome to polish helps too. They are so underrated now that you can get one with very low miles for a song. A under appreciated bike which is lighter than the market average.
I've got the Rebel in manual. 1st bike after doing my D.A.S and it's an absolute breeze to ride. I've put 14,000 miles on it in 18 months.
I have to disagree with you a little on your stance about new riders selecting DCT. For me, if you've just passed your test on a manual and then your 1st big bike is a DCT, I'd say when you do step up to a manual, you're going to struggle as you'll be more set in your ways and making the switch back to manual could be more daunting.
My car driving instructor summed it up for me in the 80's when I learnt to drive when he said Automatics are the lazy drivers' car.
As long as I'm able, I'll never purchase DCT over manual, but that's a personal thing.
One other thing, of course the dealer said he'd take the DCT every day... It's a thousand quid more 😂
I have a 2021 Honda 1100cc rebel manual, I love the bike good gas mileage, quick, light handling, I think it's awesome!
I would presumably pick the manually shifted version, but have never tried any DCT yet, so who knows in the end?
Good point about "haters", do not judge by the choice of ride!
It's a cool bike for sure, especially the fact that you can get a DCT version which isn't offered on a lot of bikes. I considered the rebel a few years back when I was getting my first bike, but ended up buying a Triumph Speedmaster instead. I just think the style of the Triumph beats the Honda by miles, but as far as function goes I'm sure the Honda is more than capable
I've tried DCT and found myself grabbing for a nonexistent clutch lever so often that it became distracting. The NC750X seemed to change up before I would manually giving a lumpy feel to the engine which I cured by selecting sport mode. The changeup then allowed the engine to build a few more revs which was closer to the way I ride, but overall manual is the way I prefer...........................................
I considered this bike for a good while (opted for CB500X) but I am still in love with the looks of this bike. Looking forward to review.
A friend of mine has got the Rebel with DCT, and, after a period of adaptation, rides awfully, the automatic gear management reads your riding style and the conditions of traffic.
The fact is that you can change gear manually with your left hand, so I don't know why you don't accept this modern and confortable system.
He is very happy with the bike.
No doubt it’s great, I just prefer rider engagement
I was given an africa twin DCT as a courtesy bike and i did 180 miles around the lake district.
and actually was surprised how good it is.
Having said that i did find it sometimes wasnt in the correct gear in some situations and had to drop a gear my self.
I have actually swapped to an africa twin from a T120 black.
But i decided to stick with manual but i reckon in the future i may look at DCT again.
Good vid pal.
a couple of points you have mised with the DCT, you can put a foot gear lever on and use that instead of the push button change and it could potentially be useful for someone with a disability or impaired movement of the hand or leg/foot
The review was very precise and objective, for which I thank you. After extensive research, I firmly decided on the Honda Rebel 1100 DCT - it truly meets my needs. I have had my license for 10 years, but I’ve been actively riding for just one year. I got myself a Suzuki Burgman 400 and am very satisfied, but I wanted a low-revving bike with a muscular look and character that would match my capabilities - I have little experience and ride daily in the city (from March to the end of October). At the same time, I joined a motorcycle club where people have serious bikes and experience, and it’s a bit unserious with a scooter. In reality, the Honda Rebel 1100 DCT met all my requirements - to be a muscular bike, have a nice sound, be beautiful, have automatic gears, and have power when I need it (I’m not a fan of crazy speeds on a bike, though I am quite dynamic as a driver). I think this is the perfect bike. I’m getting it tomorrow, and we’ll see :)
Awesome enjoy it 👍🏼
I just got my manual 1100 about 2 weeks ago and i love it. I have a friend with a dct, and I prefer the manual at lower speeds. And this 1100 is indeed my first bike.
I had my Rebel 1100 Manual for over 2 years and ridden it for 37000km. I liked it but unfortunately, the lack of character, like that of a V-twin, led to me replacing it with another motorcycle.
When I compare the Rebel to a V-twin cruiser, the Rebel always felt more like a naked bike with a cruiser design. Of course, this was also due to how the engine was designed. It wasn't designed for super high RPM, but it still had more rpm than many other cruisers, such as Triumph Bobbers, air cooled Harleys and Indians, or the v-tein metric cruisers. In addition, the footrest position was too cramped for me personally. Despite the criticism, I still believe that the Rebel is a great and fun bike.
Thanks for turn on the subtitles Mr. Darcy ✌️
Due to bad arthritis in my hands, i thought i would try a DCT NC750X in view to buying one. It does work well and i can see why people buy into DCT. But it feels too scooterish for my liking and it also adds weight which i dont like. I also feel it has more complexity for servicing and future reliability. But as i did like the NC i then tried the manual version and i preferred it. The slip/assist clutch also gives the clutch lever a super light pull, so not so much issue for my hand arthritis. I do have an auto car and i'm ok with that, but for motorcycles i want the involvement of using a clutch lever and gear shifter.
Really enjoyed the review. Lots of interesting perspectives. I would also go for the manual. I like riding a bike, with full control. I think the 500 is a better looking bike better proportioned. I wouldn’t recommend going straight to DCT as a learner, I think you will never learn to ride properly. There is plenty of time for automatic transmission when we are all riding electric bikes. This bike just feels a bit sterile to me, where is the character, where is the lineage, where is the sub culture. I am sure it is very reliable and very efficient but it is not making a statement.
Got my 2023 manual 1100 and I’ve loved it ever since. My dealer said he didn’t have one in stock but could get one within the week and sure enough I had it in two days. $12k out the door, free delivery as well. And my wife made the guy push it up the driveway because my wife knew I didn’t want any miles on it at all that weren’t mine 😂. Great wife!
I've ridden bikes for a few decades and can't see any reason for any type of automation but for anyone with a disability or preference then it's good that there is an option out there
Well I was disappointed that you did not cover the slow U-turn between the DCT and a manual. In my opinion the DCT's biggest downfall is that it is much harder to complete a slow U-turn than the manual version. Honda's new E-clutch will likely be the best of both worlds! I am hoping for an E-clutch conversion kit for the Rebel 1100 manual.
Unfortunately it was over a year since we rode the DCT so couldn’t remember everything
Apart from your right knee...do not ride an E-Clutch with armour, kept hitting my kneecap off of the damn thing...
I started off with a Honda rebel 250 many years ago. It’s crazy to me that Honda made a 1100 rebel. I always consider the rebels series a starter bike and I think the DCT helps with that. Like you said, you want to get people to ride and enjoying it. Not to pick sides and make fun of other riders.
I have never owned or ridden a bike. I am 42 years old and I'm am seriously considering getting this. I live in the US.
Just do it Mike! I was exactly at your age when I have taken my motorcycle driving licence and I've ridden around 6000 miles per year in a four seasons country starting with that blessed day! God blesse all your next rides!
@mihaimihai9254 I believe I will take your advice. Be safe out there friend.
@@michaelnapper4565 I wish you thousands of miles of joy Mike!
Good quality motorcycle as can be expected from Honda. Always loved all motorcycles including Harleys and I’ll nod to any biker as we all have that feeling of total freedom 2 wheels give you in common. 👊
Nice intro for the 1100.
For me, it would be manual too.
Ok, am back into biking for third time, and been 13 years, since I owned a bike (Suzuki GS500f, lowered)
I got medical retirement, am only 5 foot 4 with a short inside leg of 27 inches. So 90% of bikes are too high. Not like back in the late 70’s/80’s😢
I currently have accessories filled Royal Enfield 350 Meteor, with low seat. Am still on tippy tip toes, and wish to lower, so I get a bit more feet on the ground, but a love it.
I also 3 months later, due to my short legs bought a Honda Rebel 500SE. What a comfort to plant both feet on the ground😊. I love it. I put bar risers on, to raise and bring slightly towards me. Pannier bags too.
Obviously for me the 1100 be next step, for me. Pity they don’t do a 750 model.😂
I want to keep the Meteor, as it’s a talking point where ever I go, and there is local…ish meets. Hitchcocks do 20mm lower Hagon rear shocks, but will need front adjusted also. My GS500 was lowered, but never felt the same afterwards.😢 so got doubts.
That’s enough about me.
If I got 1100, it’s near double power/torque, seems a big jump. But am sure I flat foot it too.
Extras for me……heated grips, small crash bars ( got givi on 500) fly screen, or that expensive Bat wing. (Touring model fairing looks ugly, to me)
I would have to keep my saddle bags from my 500, seems wasteful to have to buy new ones.
I not a lover of the the black, grey is much nicer.
Problem for now is no Honda dealer in Aberdeen/Dundee now due to dealer going bust.😢😢😢
Minimum 2 half hours to Edinburgh. 😢, I got Crohn’s with a stoma, gotta plan for toilet stops.
I got the bug back for biking, it’s improved my health. Love a test drive, the poor 500:might get traded. I spec it too ….Datatool/service plan. Heated grips, crash bars, fly screen above the headlight cowl, saddle bags, and i ceramic coated it.
Very tempted, looking forward to your next run out.
Cheers…….Wee Mark.😊
So, I was injured last year and had limited left leg mobility, and I took a Can-am course thinking if I can't ride a 2 wheeler for the rest of my life, I will submit to 3 wheels. Thank your God, I am able to return and manage my heaviest bike which is a Concours or to you its a GTR. DCT seems like pretend riding, to me! I enjoy the transfer to hand and foot. I drive an auto truck because I did not want a clutch in traffic, which was in New Jersey, which is most populated Sq foot of the world. Any ways, I see why the ones that don't want to shift , it is the future of bikes as automobiles have gone. I just hope I die before all we can buy is automatic bikes. Just me I guess.
Looks good, the exhaust looks like an after thought though.
To be honest there is a lot about that bike that I dislike. The gas tank should wrap over the upper frame, the headlamp cowl isn’t good and that enormous muffler would be the first that would have to go. Many of the issues were true for the 500 Rebel. Looks like a nice riding position and comfortable.
DCT have the nc 750 x and its weird in the beginning..Love it..never wrong gear..and it have parking brake as all DCT...
The beauty of a this Honda is it might not be the best looking bike, but it will be technically advanced, sorted and a totally integrated unit. What they lack in imagination they certainly make up for in engineering precision. I actually like the styling, its a futuristic take on a cruiser without looking like a science fiction drop out. The rail mounted tank and the high tech exhaust can really suit it. Its an honest bike and frankly worth the few quid more than the alternatives. A Vulcan, or even a super Meteor. I'm a big RE fan, but this might just pip it at the post and Id happily sacrifice the style for the performance and the design edge. Looking forward to the long term review and how better than its smaller sisters it is.
I prefer the manual.
But it is, of course, a matter of personal choice.
When I can no longer effectivly do the manual, then DCT or Twist-N-Go will be on the radar.
For a cruiser its appears to be a nice choice. I've owned a Honda Shadow ACE and a Harley dyna low rider but have since moved on to my Triumphs: Tiger 850 sport and Bonneville t120. I could never go back to the super low seat hight and limited visibility that cruisers afford.
Just a thought but I think in every discipline the basics are so important. As a new rider it is better to get the basics right to train your skills.
Later you can move on to riding aids. In my opinion that's really important for bikers.
Great presentation of the big Rebel, as usually, I suppose, Darcy 👌
As for what to buy?
I prefer manual clutch.
Thanks 😊
I prefer manual, I tried a tmax tec max scooter which was great, but I soon got bored not having anything to do.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan pleasure is totally on my side, Darcy 🤝
@@marksimpson5218 Exactly, nothing to do, as well as not totally in control.
The Honda 1100 is the best of the line up I feel in the range and has a huge following the bagger version is definitely worth it. It’s better I feel the Nightster version, I still prefer the evo 883, 1200 engine but that’s just me. Put the 1100 engine in the scrambler variant and that might have more appeal. It’s very subjective.
I have recently changed my 2022 Nc750x dct for a NT1100 manual with quick shifter best combination in my opinion, dct is still very good though. I was tempted by the rebel 1100T but chose the NT.
Cool video. i currently ride the Rebel 500. i have been looking at the Indian Scout line, but i love the look of the Rebel. I have hardly ever owned an automatic vehicle. I am like you, i love being involved with the bike. therefor, i prefer the manual. i don't like those piggyback rear breaks, and i would prefer a different color(my 2019 is orange tank)And finally, it's a Honda.
I personally own the rebel 1100 wuth the dct and im of the opinion that it's the way to go. Granted, its my commuter in manila hell traffic and i like going fast. Even low speed maneuvers are excellent on it. I dont miss a traditional manual at all. But i would like a manual as a 2nd bike
On a note, people love the bike. Especially school children!
Couldn’t agree more Darcy. The snobbery between different styles of bikes has always made me cringe. I ride a 2017 Z900 and a 2004 GSX1400. But I love the look and sound of your Harley and I really like the look of the Rebel and would seriously consider buying one
Darcy, you make a very valid point about Harleys. I have ridden many. The older ones were expensive, heavy, didn't handle well, and weren't fast. Their power came from that low end grunt. That has changed. I was surprised to see that the Sportster S has 50% more HP than the Honda 1100. It is the Rebel, after all, but still shocking... Keep up the excellent reviews...
Many thanks 😊
I don't understand what's so fun about pulling the clutch, especially when you find yourself in a traffic jam where you have to constantly go first - neutral for miles and hours. I also currently have a clutch, but as soon as I enter the city I want to have an automatic. Times are different, traffic jams and congestion on the roads are much, much bigger, and DCT is the future of motorcycle enjoyment. Soon I expect motorcycles that will offer a choice of manual gear shifting and dct, so that everyone is satisfied. Honda can do it.
Valid point, if that was my circumstances too then maybe I would feel the same. Living in the countryside we don’t get traffic jams, just beautiful twisty scenic roads
I rode a DCT Goldwing a few years ago,and found it to be too "herky jerky" during slow speed maneuvers.Maybe it was a software issue that they've since corrected.I hope so.Still like a manual to get the full motorcycle riding experience.JMO.
Honda covered this issue with the new DCT versions (in the Africa Twin with the6-axles IMU), going slow is absolutely easy.

Good to hear.Thanks.
Hey mate when you do the full review. Have a check on the running issues with the rebel 1100 in that they don't go past 100mph. The bike just cuts power. Now I'm not suggesting or condoning speeding, but something to add to the full review. Love the vids mate.
if you do 100 plus on 2 wheels, nothing personal, your craaaaazy. i have reached 85 on my Rebel 500 with still more power available, but 85 was fast enough for this 68 year old fart.
you can get it flashed I'm sure
Some years ago , I had a short ride test with a DCT version from Honda CTX 700. I was a bit deceived with it. The throtle was very precise but not progressive in the begining of his rotation; there was no dead gap in command throtle; a bit jerky when starting up moving , mostly in tight manoueuvers. I felt some lack of progressivity and it wasn't very easy to control bike movements in those situations . In the first km I rode, I felt the constant shifting noises up and down; not very pleasant or gratifying i could say. It shifted very qwickly and whithout any power loss or discontinuity, but i felt that the of automatic shifting moments were not the moments I would choose for shifting with a manual gear box in any ride mode. I would like you to make an analisys about these niggle poins that i feel fundamentals for an enjoying and envolving ride, as well your opinion about the system's evolutions over previous DCT generations, if you have experienced them, of course. Thank you.
I tested both, i love the manual but i got other bikes to keep clutching in check. Now i got it on DCT for long crusing, way better, and i put it on manual and that just make it work my way problme solved.
I'll stick with my manual thanks and that is a nice looking bike that's why I bought my wife a 300
Autos are not for me, but I’m glad there are options for those who may need them.
Either manual or DCT would be fine for me, with the one proviso being caught in a situation that I was, a few years ago, namely having had an initially hard to diagnose misfire caused by a corroded HT lead to one cylinder of my big V twin. That was a real handful at low RPM in traffic, which I'd not like to have to replicate with an automatic !
only thing that's always put me off the rebels is the weird upswept tank, make the engine a V twin and level out that tank and i'd seriously consider one
So basicly a HD Nightster Special...
In USA Fury is still available. In Europe we are getting this troll...😪 I think that the engine of Fury could be adapted to european norms. I also regret than Hawk 11 is not available in Europe.
That exhaust is hideous brother, that would be the first thing to go.
That cowl does a lot for the looks of this bike
Definitely
I own a Honda NC750x, the manual version because that was the one I could find a good deal on. I'm sure I would have been just as happy with the DCT version, the NC is just a great bike. I am a fan of Honda, but I have never liked any of the Rebel models. The combination of the very low seat and the sloping tank looks all wrong to me. And why buy a cruiser with chain drive, when cruisers are just about the only category of motorcyles left, where there are better alternatives?
Nice bike looks cool prices here in Australia are confusing a bit pricey to be honest
I have to believe there is a market for the 1100 DCT bagger version. Lets just mention the elephant in the room. There are women who are joining spouses or other women on rides and don't want to invest the time or expend the work to deal with a clutch. Rebel can be fitted with a good sized fairing and bags. There are few choices for sub 600lb "mini baggers" out there for someone like that who may have either a small body frame or lower inseam. Rebel 1100 DCT bagger may fill that neeed. Or just the Rebel 1100 itself w/o DCT. Indian Scout can also be made into a "mini bagger" too. Different strokes for different folks! In the USA, I can see a beginner on a smaller Rebel, then move to an 1100 with or without DCT.
I like the CL500 and would like Honda to bring out a CL1100 DCT. I imagine they will.
DCT for me. Who wants to play around with a clutch? Who wants a clunky gearbox? Nick J
Too bad that the new cruiser motorcycle market in EU and UK is very limited you basically have 5 options. Two of those are Indian and Harley and are horribly overpriced, one is a strange looking Honda(the 1100 Rebel), one is a BMW R18 (gorgeous bike, but its weight and price kill all the excitement) and last one is a RE bike that has limited HP per weight and might not age very well (had an interesting experience with Interceptor 650 being significantly worse in terms of rust and general usage rate of components if compared to similar japanese bikes).
For me the Rebel 1100 is too modern, id want my cruiser to be as old-fashioned as it can be. Praying to japanese gods that honda will release the Shadow 750 in EU again (its available in US now)
However this Thing with a DCT might be a good option for a second bike (city traffic commuting)
@Mr Darcy, thank you for the video. How would you rate the rear suspension on this bike? Compared to your Softail and compared to any default street bike.
Thanks for your comments. I will cover the suspension in my review coming up 👍🏼
The dct version absolutely flies.....I'd prefer a more feet forward position
DCT for me
I'm a bit of a Honda fanboy having owned more Hondas than any other manufacturer. I also like the DCT gearbox but unfortunately i just don't like the style of this bike, its not for me.
Hi! I'd like to know if the comfort will be affected by the position of your legs which seems to be quite high. Is there any difference between the Rebel 1100 and the Rebel 500 in terms of legs comfort? Thanks a lot!
The 1100 is substantially bigger than the 500 and has much more room. The foot pegs on all bikes of this type are usually quite high (see our Indian reviews). it's to stop them scraping, but we've never found a problem with leg comfort.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I'm so very grateful to you for your almost instant answer! Thank you so very much!

Man get rid of the exaus can, put a straigt pipe and it is owesome.
Just wish it gets a 16+ liter tank😢
Almost bought this for dct, but seems a weird mishmash that doesn't know what it wants to be. Got a RE Classic instead....
That's also my bike and I LOVE it. And I also preffer manual. It gives yoy that feeling ... of "operating the machine", which I like very much. You should probably ditch this ugly exaust...
i went with a CTX700 dct…. :)
Nice looking bike 👍
Have you guys got anything on the Vulcan S..
Kawasaki haven't played ball thus far
@@MrDarcy-OlMan thank you..
and please keep them. amazing videos coming.. love them and the best I found on youtube specifically for us in the uk
When you ride to work in busy traffic I’m going auto 🎉
Yes makes sense
Is it too small for 6.2 rider? Is it different in size than Rebel 500? Most reviews say the seat is uncomfortable for longer rides, how does it compare in comfort to Super Meteor?
The full review will be coming soon, this was just to discuss the gearbox
I am 6ft 1" and it feels fine 👍🏼
I would say I would not want to do longer rides on it and is not as comfortable as the Super Meteor 👍🏼
as a harley fan it's hard to admit - but that bike is better looking and way cheaper , so i would definitely pick this instead of that horrid looking sportster s lash up , which they can't sell ;;; but a nice red paint job instead of the unimaginative drab black or grey boring mess which they put on to the easily led english buyer , and a decent chimney ;; and throw the totally unnecessary dct in the skip ;;
what are slow turns like on the DCT, no feathering of the clutch?
The dct performs very well in such situations 👍🏼
Can you cover the size. Larger riders? Felt small to sit on in the show room is it an issue on the go. Ergos comfort..DCT seems good for heavy traffic/city?
That’ll be covered in the review🫡😁
This could well be my next bike - on a Yamaha xv950 at the mo. Have you tried it with pillion? And did you get a chance to check out the touring version?
Not tried pillion as yet and not tried the touring version as yet 👍🏼
The new Kawasaki Vulcan S 2023 and Kawasaki Eliminator are far superior to the Honda rebels.
For the city: dct all the way
What's it like if you want to carry a pillion on it? could you use it two up to tour on ?
As of yet I have not ridden with a pillion 👍🏼
All these honda have this wine sound idk lol my 750 phantom has it and so does this
If you love to ride cars. All about the driving aspect. You buy a manual. That is all i have to say about the dct.
Very true! Although this bike the manual gear box is not very engaging
How tall are you? I'm 6'1". Is this cruiser suitable for taller rider? Thx
I am 6 ft 1" also and I found it fine. Can you go and sit on one and see how it feels?
i think the DCT is only good for commuting in stop-go city traffic, which is the least fun way to ride a motorcycle anyways
I don't know why EVERY SINGLE REVIEWER OF THE DCT FAILS TO MENTION THE MANUAL MODE!! WHY?? It is NOT either OR. I've got the DCT and I only ride it in the manual-paddle-shift mode which is so superior to any clutch squeeze I could possibly make because there are two clutches. Squeezing the clutch after 40 years of riding gives me pain in my hand long after the ride (De Quervain tenosynovitis). The paddles put me back into rider input, and I never choose Drive or Rain mode. Sport is the only way to go if you want to go full auto. The shifts happen at intervals more like any sport rider would choose.
Yes we know it has manual mode but it’s still semi auto. You haven’t got a clutch lever and a foot pedal. But that’s fantastic for your situation! Glad you like it 👍🏻
I’m no hater but these last two Hondas are just kind of ugly
I want a manual shift, hate that you can’t even find them in cars here in the US
Any able bodied person wanting some form of mechanical/electronic assistance in changing gears on a cruiser needs to reevaluate their riding requirements or is just plain lazy. Isn't that what riding a cruiser is all about? A chilled, relaxing ride?
Not my type of machine by a long way but a good, fair and comprehensive overview for those thinking about this bike. 👍
Too robotic like for my liking, but hey, to each their own...
I think the exhaust is hideous, it just ruins the lines of the bike
I have only three problems with Harleys, the anti-social riders but not all Harley riders and the bikes are overpriced, and the parts and labor are expensive.
Id be very interested in the 1100 rebel, but I wouldnt subject my pillion in a million to that stupid fucking excuse for a seat.
Sorry, the Rebel is not for me. I don’t like the looks, the TFT display, the radiator and the exhaust. But that’s just me. I‘m not a hater of any bike, but the Rebel is just not up my alley. DCT or manual - manual all the long
Not for me either but we’ve gotta cover all avenue’s!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I’ll keep watching all your videos no matter what bikes you cover (except electric 😉)
I know that you said it was a "good looking machine" but to me, it and it's smaller sibling are pimply butt ugly!
I think it’s good looking for a modern motorcycle, but compared to a Harley it’s not haha
I was thinking that, for a cruiser, any Moto Guzzi or Triumph as well as HD or Indian are much better looking. I've had Hondas and they are terrific, but the only ones that I think are ugly are the Rebels. Ugh!@@MrDarcy-OlMan
Honda are very lazy using the same engine for different models 😂
Very cost effective
Not only Honda, every big brand have only a few motors models for the entire lineup.
Economic sense
Not really . It’s been that way with majority of manufactures since last Century. 4 or 2 wheeled.
Where did you hide the last 40 or so years 😂
I’m not sure that I agree with describing people that voice a critical opinion on a particular machine as “Hater’s” , it appears to be a catch all statement that’s designed to rubbish the views of anyone that doesn’t agree with your own view??, surely people are allowed to have and voice their opinions?, we all have different tastes, you said that the Honda in this video is “certainly a good looking machine “, well that’s your opinion , I disagree entirely 😂, I think it’s one of the ugliest bikes I’ve ever seen!, the exhaust IMO is hideous, the angled upwards tank is IMO downright weird, it looks to me as though a collection of unmatched cycle parts have been spread with glue and thrown into a tumble dryer, so am I now a “Hater” or have I simply voiced my opinion?.
I’m sure that some people wouldn’t find all of my motorcycles attractive, someone once described my XJR as “Lardy”, my R9T racer as “Bits stuck anywhere”, my Thruxton 1200 as “all fake”, but I didn’t think or say “Hater”, I just thought fair enough you don’t like it that’s your opinion 👍, perhaps some bikers are really thin skinned and get upset by the slightest negative comment, but personally I’d rather hear what someone really thinks and not just slot people into a “Hater” bucket if they don’t like what I like, just sayin 😂
Trust us; we get haters! A difference of opinion, nicely expressed, is perfectly ok.
Still don't know what this bike is supposed to be!
Feels like a muscle bike in my opinion
I tried africa twin 1100 with dct and it was great but for me I would always choose a manual just for the feel of it. Great thing about dct is my wife is now confident enough to ride. So yes next year she will be getting a rebel 1100 dct. And I love honda for having the option of both.
In the US over 93% of new cars are automatic transmission. 50 years ago when driving was taught in school they were all automatic. Most people today look at a manual transmission like studying Morse Code. Honda making automatic transmissions available to the masses is genius. They just announced the E-Clutch that looks to be the best of all possible worlds. Fully automatic when you want, foot shift with or without using the clutch. 😮
My Harley, BMW and Royal Enfield are manual with assist on the BMW. My little scooter is a CVT automatic.
It’s like asking which is better, an open end spanner or a ratchet and socket? Both!
