      I have the DCT (black) Rebel 1100 on order.
      Why? I wanted a good starter bike that would also be a good forever bike.
      I'm a little worried that I won't like the size, since I'm 6'2", 240 lbs. However, I've seen a couple of TH-camrs that LOVE the bike and are 6'3", so there's hope.

    Excellent review from an experienced American rider. I am getting this machine early next year for sure. Hopefully I can keep my Rebel 500 and park them side by side. I can’t wait for the extra power( which I desperately need) and the DCT is just an awesome addition.

    I just recently got my hands on this bike 2 weeks ago after trying to get my hands on it for 7 months and when I say it is a fantastic bike all around, I truly mean it. I have ridden many bikes and the handling on this one is stellar. No clunkiness in low speed maneuvering and acceleration is great!

    Driving motorcycles with clutch for many years. Just sold my Harley Ultra due to left hand and foot issues and picked up a cmx1100 DCT which allows me to continue riding. I much prefer a manual clutch for low speed manuvering and cornering. You need to practice show speed moves with a DCT or you likely dump the bike at some point. Also I run in manual mode to allow me to pick the RPM for shifts and turns. This bike is an absolute riot to drive and like just about everything about it.

      Have you considered EFM auto clutch? you don’t have to use the clutch. It fits on any bike, you still have to shift gears with your foot but there’s no need to use a clutch and it won’t stall. Just curious what your thoughts are on the auto clutch because I can’t decide between that or just getting a DCT

    I think most beginners should start with less than 70 horsepower because it is much less likely to accidentally lift the front wheel with bad throttle and clutch control, however this 1100 Rebel might be good for a heavier and shorter beginner, especially since they can learn to throttle, steer and brake first, then for their second bike maybe add clutch and shift levers to learn to use. The frame and weight distribution should keep the front wheel on the pavement. Still, less weight is better for a beginner, if you accidentally go into a corner too fast for your skills, a lighter bike will be easier to not crash.

    • @NicePantsLance
      @NicePantsLance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I 100% agree 👍 to be honest, if this bike had a clutch I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner at all! The DCT transmission makes it so easy to control! I found myself having to turn off a bunch of settings just to get some action lol thanks for watching! Cheers 🍻

    I just bought it a couple of weeks ago. I love it. I’ve been riding all my life and I’m now 54. It’s comfortable and I love that even with 1100, the weight low enough that makes the bike very light. The auto trannie and the cruise control makes this old lady happy to be lazy.

    After having had it for a good eight months now, have you got used to the cramped accommodation? I am also 6', with a 32'' inside leg and am thinking of buying one of these bikes with DCT. A solution could be to get the seat built up a couple of inches. That would create more space.
    I also like the idea of using manual mode occasionally. A quick-shifter on the handlebar, effectively.
    Informative review. Just what I wanted to see.

    When you have dodgy joints the DCT is a godsend, I could not manage a manual due to arthritis in my hips and knees but can ride a DCT so I have the Honda 700s and now can join the cruiser class with the Rebel1100 and due to a tracker fitted costs me less to insure than the 700S even with the subscription, so I am also getting the new 2022 cub for those quick trips when the Rebel is just " not right " for the task like a mile down a rutted dirt track for a sail on the lake, before anyone says it I could not even get my leg over the Africa Twin, being only 5'5" with 29"inside leg the bike was just too tall hence the 700S and not X .

    The purpose of a DCT transmission is the capability to perform shifts faster than a conventional transmission, the true test of a DCT is to set it in manual mode and use the paddle shifters. A automatic transmission uses a torque converter, which is the slowest at shifting. A manual even the best racers cannot shift as fast as a DCT. With that said the DCT computer on the Rebel 1100 in my opinion is not the most sophisticated at picking shift points, compared to a few European cars I have tried, but a $100,000 car should be quite better. I love the manual mode in the twisties. Put it back to computer control when in traffic. Just my take

    I sure like my Honda Rebel 1100 DCT. Wow! Its a dream! Runs great, feels great, sounds great, is great. I dont think its a bike for any “beginner”(to powerful n to heavy). I find the trans to perform and everything I want it to do its does it and on time. Sure has power and torque! The suspension adjusts to what you want. Friction zone-still have it via throttle n rear brake. This recording (no recording) does not do the real sound justice and it has a good throaty sound. If you purchase one you must be very careful at first as if you are like me you are used to the clutch (especially in parking-i put in neutral). Modes just fine and are easy. Its great. I for one will probably change footrests to more forward. One thing-if you like to do rev bombs you cant do that on this bag. Unless you put it in neutral n you cant do that while running along.

    • @ezekieloruven
      @ezekieloruven 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The video author didn't say anything but for recommendations I'd say learn to ride on a manual, preferably at a safety course, then buy a DCT or CVT bike and ride that. Many beginner courses will provide you a bike, and I can assure you it will be manual. You should at least know how to work a manual transmission because nearly every motorcycle is, but for daily use I don't see any reason to use a manual if you don't like shifting.

    • @NicePantsLance
      @NicePantsLance  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the late reply, I must have forgot to press enter! But yes, he's right. You don't NEED to learn a manual, but it would make you way more proficient at riding, and you could also ride any bike you want to try. Eventually shifting manually would be second nature and you may even prefer it over a DCT! If you are firm about not wanting to learn shifting, the DCT is a great option. The transmission is smooth as butter and is very easy and intuitive to ride. If you are thinking of a DCT only because you haven't learned manual shifting yet, I would steer clear and learn on a regular bike 👍

    I'm about to pull the trigger on one of these but no way in hell will I get the automatic, changing gears is half the fun! I drive a stick shift car as well. These definitely have a place for senior citizens or someone with a disability like an amputee missing a leg or for an able bodied lazy person. The automatic bike can keep them riding forever making this automatic transmission technology a life saver for some folks.

    I wish that I would have found this video sooner. I just purchased the ’22 Honda Rebel 1100 DCT and I love it!! I hadn’t ridden a bike in over 40 years, and now I’m back in the saddle again with this awesome bike. It’s great for me being that I can no longer use a shift lever due to an injury. Great video and review, thanks!

    EFM auto clutch vs DCT? I’m not sure which one to go with, any advice would be appreciated. Benefit to the EFM auto clutch is it fits on any bike and gives the benefits of DCT (no stalling) but you still have to shift gears with your foot which I don’t mind.

      @NicePantsLance  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will love the Rebel! Although, you may miss the size and touring ability of the softail. The Rebel is not the best long distance machine. The DCT is a good option if shifting becomes a problem. Although id only get the DCT if i absolutely had to. Thanks for watching

    Great demonstration, thank you. Very motivational too. I am 182 cm, which compares to 6 feet as far as I know. You mentioned that you felt a bit cramped. Would you consider this a problem? My own size in comparison with the seat height of this bike is holding me back for now to make a purchase. I do not want to look to bulky. And in some other videos people are mentioning some troubles during downshift with the DCT, in which the tiiming does not feel right somewhere near the second gear. Did you notice any of that. I would appreciate it if someone can help me out here.

    • @NicePantsLance
      @NicePantsLance  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't consider it a problem at all! Fitting on a small cruiser is a matter of preference really. You'll have perfect control over the bike, but being a larger guy means you'll look big on the bike and wont have much room. To be honest, i didnt do much low speed stuff in DCT mode so im not sure about the 2nd gear thing. If control over the DCT is a point of concern for you, its definitely worth it to learn how to shift a manual bike. You wont have to worry about improper shifting cause you'll be doing it

If you're a bigger guy that likes cruiser style bikes and the Indian style, go for the indian. Rock on, thanks Lance! My wife has been eyeballing a bike of her own, though she LOVES riding on the back of our Goldwing, and has been keen on a smaller, low-slung cruiser and the Rebel caught her eye. She wants a bike that has enough power to ride highway with me (bye bye Rebel 500 and Shadow 750) and the cruise makes the bike that much more of a value proposition to her. Great review man, thanks!
    Also, about that wimpy horn, swap it out for a Goldwing horn and be prepared to scare the 💩 out of people 🤣. First time I honked my bike it even scared me (happened when I honked at a neighbor when passing his house), neighbor texted me and said “holy crap, your bike’s horn is louder than my Subaru’s horn!” 🤣 When you’re on it, it sounds strangely similar to a train horn.

      @Nice Pants Lance It’s literally everything you could ever want in a motorcycle. Like a distillation of all of my cruiser and sportbike ownership of everything I wanted and nothing I didn’t. Handles WAAAYY lighter than it is. I’ve scrubbed the tires down to the edges without concern and it will wheelie with the best of em though I’ve only done it once. I’ve got the non-tour and my ONLY gripe is I wish they would have put the reverse gear on it too (it’s only on the tour models). I’m VERY cognizant of angles when I park and only park level or nose up. I’m 5’6” so I don’t get as much grip to back up as a taller rider such as yourself would be able to when backing. You ride safe too! Thanks

    Great review! I have been riding for 56 years, lol! I am currently 63 and ride a CTX 1300 Deluxe. The bike is, I think, 740lbs., a bit tough to move around in parking lots (especially packed with gear and riding two up), but once you get moving, the bike handles nicely. I have a small frame at 5' 8", so I am thinking about getting something a little bit smaller and easier to push around. The Rebel 1100T looks really easy to, not only move around but to ride. It just might be hard for me to give up my clutch, lol! I know there is a lot of controversy about the DCT from long-time riders like me, but, I may just have to give it a try!

      The suspension on the Rebel 1100 isnt too bad if you adjust it properly. Needs a seat change though. If you're 6'+ tall and 250+ lbs like i am, I'd recommend Stiletto Shocks, Mustang Seat, and possibly the forward controls. If you're more medium sized, a simple adjustment will do to feel comfortable. Unfortunately cause its a compact 500lb cruiser, it'll never handle pot-holes very well. Larger heavier bikes soak up bumps better 👌

      You're not short, people only grow until they're perfect. You just didn't take as long as others 😁

    I have this exact model.
    The biggest failing imo is the seat. After ~450 miles this thing is killing my tailbone -- even with suspension adjustments. Ordered a Mustang. We'll see how that goes.
    DCT is great. I occasionally use the paddles to adjust the gear the DCT has picked for me, so it's not perfect, but it's also not wired to my brain, so it's never going to be. The DCT is pretty cool and I enjoy it.
    This is my first bike. The bike definitely has the potential to get you in trouble, but if you're a reasonable adult it won't. If you lower the power output (ie: rain mode), 1st gear is very gradual. I was actually surprised how easy it is to do slow speed maneuvering with just a throttle.

      I know right lol Kinda makes me think they do it on purpose to entice us to buy an aftermarket exhaust system lol

    Can you compare with your triumph please

      The Rebel 1100 is more comfortable, because of its cruiser ergonomics. It also feels more "fluid", where as the Speed Twin feels more "raw". The display on the Rebel is more modern, where the Speed Twin was fitted with classic gages on purpose. Other than those benefits, the Speed Twin is superior in every way. Engine character feels more alive. Has more power and torque. Brakes way harder. Handles better and sharper. Easier to maneuver. Easier to work on in my opinion. The Speed Twin also feels more "quality". Then again, im a Triumph fan so im biased. Both are great bikes 👍 one just performs better
