The ATR has the landing gears under its belly. Olympic Air only runs Dash 8 100 & 400 and can see the wheels under each engine. That is the easy way to differentiate them.I love this plane and its sound. Thank you for sharing
I'll say this bird's unique! The coolest turboprop airliner around, in my opinion! Wish I could own one as my own private aircraft. It'd be like owning a DC-9 or 717, but with turboprop economy.
Hi! I know 1 pilot who is flying the dash 8 q400. I have readed the fcom etc... So basicly q400 spoilers have two positions TAXI and FLIGHT. The taxi mode is for the ground operation and the Spoilers switch (FLIGHT/TAXI switch) is turned to TAXI when you are finished your landing roll and started taxi... The switch is turned to FLIGHT shortly before takeoff and that couses the spoilers to go up before takeoff, basicly it makes system self-check, and when thrust is set spoilers retract... And yeah Dash 8 Q400 is my favourite aircraft
+FN-374 The spoilers are automatic and stay up on the ground even when the plane is shut down and during taxi. At take off the pilot can either flick the spoiler switch or advance the throttles and they will retract . There is an override switch that is used in cold weather to prevent snow and ice getting under them.
My understanding is that the override switch is basically always on when on the ground to keep the spoilers down, on all the checklists I can find they are the last thing on the pre-takeoff checklist.
It depends on the airline! Like i said in cold climates they keep them down to prevent snow and ice from getting under them. Don't really think they have to worry about snow in Greece
whetedge the q400 has two positions for its spoilers. 1. flight 2. Taxi. From takeoff till after landing the spoiler pos is in flight "mode", meaning if the power levers are less then 60 degrees and weight is on wheels, the spoilers automatically deploy. On takeoff, where the power levers steadily.pass over 60 degrees, spoilers are automatically retracted.
whetedge and the taxi position is used when you obviously taxi, where power levers are less than 60 degrees but you dont want to taxi with spoilers deployed..hope i covered you
Because the camera records in a certain amount of frames per second, at the right speed, the props can look like they suddenly stops and starts to spin the other way. It can even happen in real life with your eyes, when looking at cars and they are going at a certain speed, the wheels can look like they spin the other way too.
Nice of the pilots to say hello @ 1:17 :-)
Fantastic as always! :D Didn't know Q400s flew to skiathos :)

Beautiful impressions of hot Skiathos, thanks!
Amazing, man! The Q400 is a great plane! Liked! :)
Definitely one of the most if not the single most beautiful turboprops there are, the Q400 looks rather dashing. (pun intended)
Agree, please watch my dedication video for Austrian's Q400!

I thought Olympic Air had closed down :') Love the livery!
The sound of Pratt & Whitney's PW150A's
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amo este avión.
very nice video at what seems to be you favourite spot :-)
how do they reverse thrust at the Dash 8? is it at 0:26 by reversing the angle of the prop blades? Thanks I am just interested.
The props get into reverse by changing the blade angle.
thanks, time for someone with dash 8 Q400 knowledge to explain the unusual actions of the spoilers.. please?

at 1:18 the pilots wave their hands:)
What about Leros, the second st Barts?
Anyone know why they had the spoilers in flight mode before they had begun the takeoff roll?

Why do they have spoilers deployed til right at launch?

Why the engines looks like its not running??
Because the camera records in a certain amount of frames per second, at the right speed, the props can look like they suddenly stops and starts to spin the other way. The second landing was a little hard.
This, or an ATR 72 600?
