At Momona airport just out of Dunedin (New Zealand) they have automatic gates to block the road to the airport if an aircraft is approaching from the North end of the runway
With its wheels housed within the engine's bays and the engines themselves attached to the wings/forming a part of the wings, I'm always thinking that one day the wings are simply going to snap off the body of the plane. The Q400 - with its slim body (2+2 seating configuration) - reminds me of the pencil.
obviously that's the way it is in the air for all aircraft as they provide the lift, but here it's on the ground too. The wing roots are mated completely in to the fuselage, not just slapped on top of it. I do agree though, always seems a tad odd
Hey GreatFlyer, now that you have a job as a 737 F/O could you pls do a short video on how you deal with e.g. the risk of losing your medical or other eventualities that make you unable to work as a pilot? Perhaps a short answer here in the comment section would be enough.
Hi Justin, thanks for watching! There's secondary jobs directly related to the job of an airline pilot, e.g. simulator instructor, dispatcher, manager etc. However, at some point I will consider getting an academic degree in order to have some sort of contingency as a plan B.
Nice Video like everytime 😉. I just have one question and I Hope that it is not too personal. How could you pay the pilot license because you arke so young? I'm 16 years old and I live in Germany and I think probably the entire day how I could finance my pilot license. I Hope that you can answer this private question. Greetings.
It looks like he didn't have full flaps set for landing, which gave the nose-up attitude during approach. They look to be the same as the take off setting. I wonder if there was a problem or if it was a decision based on the airport conditions?
Does that road have height restrictions for vehicles? If a semi trailer had of been there, there could have have been some deaths. Not the best flying that's for sure
There's traffic lights at both ends of the road - now you'd hope drivers exercise common sense when driving, but you often see them trespass those lights at their own risk.
Yah! Those Dash 8's can't flare due to the very low angle of tail strike of 8 degrees, so landing in a flat approach instead of stall is the only option, however, this runway, since it is upslope and then level (or down sloping) requires an even lower approach to avoid the front gear touching first. If a pilot lands near that hump, he will likely run out of runway if it is short. Normally it means landing long if they obey the TCH (Threshold Crossing Height) on the approach plate which is usually 50-55 feet. You'll see the TCH at the top along with the runway length in a small box next to the Localizer Frequency or WAAS designation box on NORCO plates. If they obey the ILS GLIDESLOPE, that would be the usual TCH for the aircraft. These pilots are pretty good plane jockeys!!
+harry w I think it is a function of arming them in case of an aborted take-off. They automatically deploy on touchdown, if armed. They may deploy on the functional check, also. Most of these aircraft know they are already on the ground and won't auto re-arm until after airborne. I think I will be on one on Monday, so will ask! Safe skies!
It's because in flight mode, the spoilers are set to auto-deploy with weight on wheels and a low power setting. The spoilers are set to flight mode so deploy due to these factors. They retract once the power levers are advanced for take off. Taxi mode inhibits this system until line up.
Not that much lower than Air Italy, but he did not touch down that early as the Air italy pilots. Limbo rock or do the limbo dance for your next video.
No room for error there
No body:
The news: onlookers watch in horror as this jumbo jet passes just feet above the road and only just makes it onto the tarmac
HAD to use the word "tarmac" there 😂
I feel like someone is gonna get r/wooshed

@@aviationchannel6204 ah, the french boeing a340, a great turbo pro private jet for short distance which can carry upwards of 7 people
Absolutely stunning video, mate!! :D
Good job a double decker bus wasn't passing
Awesome landing!
Great catch, mate.
Wow, this Dash 8 nearly touched the grass! Awesome, looking forward to all your new videos! :)
waw!!!! superb video!
Ευτύχης Μπλέτσας μόνο olympic air ρεεεεε
Awesome low low landing! Great spot! Must go there soon!
That landing was smooth
And here's a hard one on the same runway: th-cam.com/video/-ptXlBzjZ3E/w-d-xo.html
Cant beat the sound of a dash 8!
One of a kind!
I think the classic smaller Dash 8's sound better
Awesome catch!
Liked!
Great video.☺️
nice, wanna go to Skiathos, too
After watching this video, me too !
And that in 2016- amazing! Love DH8D :-)
Such a beautiful aircraft!
Love you Skiathos. Xxx
Me too!
Just wonderful!
Many thanks!
Wow, great vid as always.
Dash-8 is one cool looking aircraft
It is! Sadly Olympic retired them for the ATR.
Skiathos really has a dangerous airport
Bravo!
My favourite plane
Glad you enjoyed it!
I LOVE these magnificent turboprop jets. They're big for a turboprop, too, roughly the same size as either a classic DC-9 or modern 717.
Check out the new C series from Bombardier CS 100 and CS 300
Is very good video
Great video, wow some close landings, enjoy your flight back
Oh my, that is awesome
Great Video!
Wow, great video !
Awesome video, Liked!

Excellent video :D I can't wait to go back in September :D
Wow!! Exciting!!
*GREAT JOB* I m in Luv 😍😍
Feel free to check out my other videos from Skiathos!
@@greatflyer_aviation , thank u.
I really appreciate it.
*BOMBARDIER DASH-8* is so awesome.
beatiful videonya.
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing, Subscribed !
I liked the video:)
Quite funny how the landing gear comes out of where the propellers are. Where I live I see a lot of these Bombardiers. Cool video, man!
Aviation Zealander that's the best for cross winds landings...
great!!!
Amazing!!!👏👏👏
And I thought some of those KLM 744 landings at ST Mart's were crazy :P Liked mate!
Nice!
Thanks, check out my other Skiathos clips!
That was a low landing indeed :O Great video!!!! Post more vids cause I like airplanes :) Reminds me of the Italy one
Amazing 😮
Amazing Video mate. Huge Like :)
Thank you so much!

I once thought on a Q400 flight, imagine the cabin falling away but the wing and engines still make it to the destination. 😂😂😂

It's a fuck ugly plane IMO
@@bmc9504 I want some flight sim mod where they remove the cabin of the Q400 and just have the wing, engine and landing gears.
@@visionist7 Nah, it's sleek and beautiful.
Awesome!
Hey nice cool daily plane spotting! #ILoveThisVidSoMuch I love planes so much I watch your vids every single day :D
Still better than the thug Air Italy 737 on your other video!
TheGreatFlyer no Italy was faster 👍
Wow! Incredible video!!! I love your filming techniques! Liked and still subbed!
Mais je te trouve partout !!!
Haha! Moi aussi! Elle est cool la vidéo hein?
Oui c'est malade !! Si seulement on pourrait voir ça à YUL ;-)
Oui! Mais, nous avons plus de traffic!
finally... a fucking video to skiathos
real good video
Nice close up. Indeed it was a really low pass.
Wow trop bien
ça c'est vrai !
Ouai
I think ATC must have asked the pilot if he would trim the shrubbery on his way in.....and he just about did LOL.
😂
Nice man
Terrain! Terrain! Pull up! Pull up!
holy sh.. :D nice video!
Nice video mate! I am also planning now my trip to Skiathos from 6 to 11 July.
+TheGreatFlyer Ohh good luck! How long is the army period in Cyprus? Be patient at any case!
Very cool. Man that was pretty low. What video camera were you using?
Παντα τα video σου πολυ καλα !!!!!!!!!!!! Καλη θητεια......
Is the barbed wire new? I haven't seen that around the runway before.
island runways tend to be short so bigger planes cant land any other way than this if they want to be able to stop before the runway runs out
Correct
sick

Wow that was really low!!

I had some very sketchy landings on lord howe in a dash 8

I just have one question and I Hope that it is not too personal.

I'm 16 years old and I live in Germany and I think probably the entire day how I could finance my pilot license.

well perhaps a bit late now, but often people go for a loan, a cadet programme with an airline, or an ''in-house'' loan from parents/family.
And i have a question: how many flights per hour there are in jsi (on June/ July)?😅
thank you so much!!!
Wow

With the turn around time i can assume this was a time lapsed video? My guess is he didnt just make a cameo appearance with no passangers

Slicing some fruit on the way down
Accurate
GL. There was no truck over there
Okay, so that Dash 8 broke the record of the lowest landing! It's even lower than that Air Italy Boeing 737!
There's a few crash landings that can't compete.
Does the dash hav the same engines as the atr 72
Larger more powerful engines than ATR , travels as fast as small regional jet, but can land on smaller runways and better in hot dusty condtions
Secondly, the takeoff didn't cause much of a jetblast.
1 more inch and those tires are poked
You can actually do a barrel roll in the q ! I think there's a video of it on TH-cam 😂
Unfortunately someone tried on their own...
Is this normal? That seems like cutting it way too close, but I don't have my pilot's license quite yet so I can't tell.
Definitely lower than a 3°glide.
@@greatflyer_aviation Thought so. Thanks.
To be honest, it can't get closer than that!
put your hands up and grab the landing gear for a free ride :P
F**k, that it is in fact a real quite plane
If there was a big truck on that road the the plane tyre would've hit the truck
Is it not called zakynthos intn?
Ben Price zakynthos is another island in greece with its own airport.
Looks like it would have hit a truck!
Bro. What?
A no-flap landing? Followed by a no flap takeoff?
Piddlepaddler There are flaps on landing
Flaps on landing (probably F15) and takeoff (looks like F10). I guess they're not as pronounced as on other types.
Bro that was only like 3 meters off the ground!!!!
I know, it was a sight to see! However, you have to check out my Air Italy 737 low landing!
I see lower landings than that everyday. Every landing I've seen touches the ground.
If you through a rock hard enough, catastrophe
Pause at 0:32 to see how low it is
