      Hi guys! Would you suggest any ovens? I really like baking and don't know if I could give it up or what to do abt that part of a build. I'd definetly have solar if that makes a difference

    • @Jeroen_M625

      Both... a build in propane stove with lid. It can't fail, induction has electronics that in an offroad vehicle can suffer from vibration (they're build for home use). And a outdoor stove/oven/grill if the BBQ is not an option.
      In Europe: to register a van as a camper you need some minimum requirements to comply with legislation. It varies from country to country a bit (England has some new rules) but in several countries one of them is that you have a fixed apparatus for cooking. That may be an induction stove or a microwave as long as you bold it down.
      Most seen over here are 22lbs propane bottles with build in stoves and fridges running on propane (some also boilers and heaters). Solar and battery then are quite small and lightweight (3,5t GVWR limit). Compressor fridges are trending and so larger capacity batteries, but then still stove on propane. Some ditch the propane and go for the diesel stoves (Wallas and Dometic), instead of heavy battery, inverter and electric stove.

    I have a Wallas diesel stove, I absolutely love it. It looks good, super easy to install and I love cooking on it. Uses hardly any diesel (and no, doesn't smell at all) just a tiny bit of power for starting up and no extra fuel source.

    In our Promaster build 400 amp hours battle born, we have a Coleman portable or a 2 burner induction depending on what type of traveling we are doing. This is awesome for when we cook bacon etc.we can cook out side. We also have one 330 watt solar panel and a separate system to plug in additional portable panels.

    I like ur vid a lot. It's 2 yrs old but it ranked highly in My algorithym. Kudos. I built a coffee truck from scratch b4 YT vids but always looking for new ideas/upgrades. My propane power espresso maker is the bomb! I highly recommend cooking with gas, but, only if you are smart enuff to follow All the rules... to a T!! Seriously folks. I also like portable electric cooktop, toaster oven and outdoor bbq (propane) to take advantage of all power sources when cooking off-grid. Be safe & bon apetite

    great information!!! I'm searching for a fiberglass camper for a DIY reno. So I'm 'attending' TH-cam University(as my son calls it) Propane terrifies me, but being able to take a cooktop outside is appealing. I like the idea of something tucked away in a drawer to maintain cherished counter space. Microwave/convection/air fryer/slo cooker combos are very affordable. But more solar power is needed for something like that. You touched on so many things I had questions about. Thanks. I'll be checking out your other videos.

So thanks.. on another note ..Sarah, you have such beautiful skin - you just glow in these videos. I just watched a few of your older videos with interviews of your BFF's - I am guessing you are about the same age as these woman. Wonderful idea on the coffee, I’m currently using my smart kettle and espro press. I dig the tailgating grills that slide out with an entire kitchen. I would get the portable induction one burner stove. Also a small electric skillet. And I would bring along my toaster/oven to bake with. I cook a lot. I would prefer not to have any propane on board. That being said, how would the hot water be heated up? With a instant hot water system? If I ever get a van conversion I would definitely have you guys do it. You do a great job.

      Most are 2kW oven for preheat it will run on full power, after it will modulates. Let's bake a pie or something like that with preheat and some decent time. Let's say it averages on 1kW during 1 hour period, it then used 1kWh. 1kWh @ 12v is about 85Ah, with losses of energy in inverter etc. 100Ah from battery. That is an addition to your normal capacity, which also needs to be charged. In best case scenario it adds 30lbs and $750 to a lithium setup (60lbs and $100 for lead acid), but maybe you need some more solar panels, heavier inverter, heavier charger etc.
      Propane (LPG) has about 14kWh per kg, that's about 7kWh per lbs, so a 1 lbs will give you 7 hours of baking.
      Proper installation of both setups is crusial for safety (electrical may look easier, but I've seen people doing it, thinking they where doing it wright, while making it a fire hazard (yes, a battery can explode also)).
      One of mine personal vans has a propane installation, fills with 25lbs of propane and is used for stove, fridge and outdoor oven and grill (heater is also an option). Battery system is just a small 44Ah, without solar with 150W inverter for charging laptop etc.

      @@Jeroen_M625 I’m wondering if you wouldnt mind giving some advice. I’m starting to plan my van conversion and want to plan as much as possible before buying anything. I was also questioning lpg vs electric for oven etc so your info has been great! My question is what size lpg tank would you recommend for full time living in a van? I’ll be solo travelling so using it at least once a day. I’m wanting to have mine stored under the van and will be looking to get it professionally fitted as I don’t have a clue what I’m doing in that area!

      @@d.i.ypetaccessories It depends on your way of living and traveling. I know some couples living in vans; 1 couple had a rule that they only visit warm areas, so not a big load of clothes, no boiler and even no heater, lot of BBQ, while one of the other couples live for some extreme winter sports, so heater allway running, warm showers etc. Two extreme points on the spectrum of van life, so I will try to come up with something generic.
      Cooking:
      Most stoves have larger and smaller burners. A typical 2.2kW burner uses 160g/h, a 1.8kW 130g/h. A camper oven is about 1kW and uses around 80g/h.
      So for burning some croissants, solidify a few eggs and boiling the tea kettle in the morning, toasting some bread for lunch, brewing a stew and later some hot cocao and dishwater takes about 500g... Lets say you say you boil a kettle a day and half an hour of cooking on both burners will be more realistic so for most of the days is about 200g a nice base point.
      Fridge:
      Absorbtion about 150-250g/day.
      Heating:
      2kw heater about 160g/h. low setting 80g/h 12h/d --> 1kg/day
      Boiler (combi with heater is possible):
      10l (2,5gallon) 4kw 335g/h. 25min 10C/50F to 60C/140F --> 150g/cycle
      A Burgundian in a colder area with a warm shower will use around 1850g (4lb),
      a more sparingly person in a warmer climate may only use 450g/day (1lb)
      Size of tank is not a very high influence on total price of the system. i.e. a 20l/10kg (5gallon/20lb) tank for under a van (simular to the original tank under a Vanagon) costs over here 290 euros and 70l/35kg (17.5gallon/70lb) is 365. Do not forget that a tank is limited to 80% filling. A 5 gallon tank will hold 4 gallons or 16lb of gas, enough for 4 to 16 days. try to match it with your water capacity: i.e. it does not make sence to station somewhere for 2 weeks if you do not have the energy or the water capacity for 1.
      If weight is not an issue take the biggest tank that will fit.
      If you have a van that runs on diesel: there are also (combi)boilers (truma D) and stove heater combi (Wallas) on diesel. bit more expensive, but one fuel fits all.

It seems to me if another vehicle slams into the storage space with your tanks, then you may very well have a disaster on your hands. Accurate? Lastly, isn't the danger of propane contain within the vehicle a potential danger to CO and leakage?

    imo cheapest van cooking option: outdoor portable gas bbq $40 + 20lb refillable/exchangeable propane tank $20. For cooktop needs: Use ur *stovetop kettle, frypan, and a $20 Bialetti espresso coffee maker All at same meal time and later u will still have the grill for bbq dinners for approx 2-4wks++ **protip: while grill is hot, add a full kettle/pot for hot water wash-up/dishwater too! nomnomnom y'all Any heating devices uses Aaaaa LOT of AC. Microwaves/coffee maker are the worst, they will drain ur batts everytime. Use gas if u can for heating. imo. Be safe. Happy trails xo PS: if u have en-suite laundry in ur rig....nevermind

    Search TH-cam for Trap Town Scam and you'll see videos from other channels warning about their scam. They should be reported and blocked.
