This method is still not as good a hardware based tracking (TrackIR, DYI clip, etc) which are more accurate, responsive.

This video was meant to be a proof of concept and created back in Aug 2020. Since that time a lot has changed with the free software used. Whole concept still works, to give a bit of a conceptual breakdown.
AI Track takes the place of the TrackIR Head Tracker for interpreting your head movements. (As an example) Using AI (A Neural Network) it uses your webcam to convert head movements captured through video into Pitch, Yaw, Roll, X, Y Z and sends that over your computer network (In this case, the data never leaves the computer).
OpenTrack acts as a translator, it takes data from a variety of sources, one of which is over a computer network (It'll receive the data from AI track when configured correctly) and converts that to support various different output interfaces. The specific one we care about here is FreeTrack. FreeTrack supports the same interface that TrackIR uses, so almost any game that supports TrackIR will work with this setup.
When you open MSFS 2020 and go to Controls you'll notice you magically gained a TrackIR controller, OpenTrack is essentially pretending to be a TrackIR Head Tracker, MSFS recognizes that a TrackIR device is available and uses it, OpenTrack then sends over the data it receives from AI Track using FreeTrack in a TrackIR compatible way, completing the circle of life over here.
THANK YOU for the video tutorial. Can confirm today that on Windows 10, this method and walkthrough still works beautifully. Finding your port number was really the only "complex" part that I had to do some extra research on that this video did not show.

Exactly. Nothing can beat hardware based solution. However some of us wants to try out if "Head Tracking" stuff is worth before investing any further or go straight to VR. This is a one way to test it out.

works amazing for me. seems more a matter of tweaking the curves. then again ive never used hardware based solutions so idk any better

@@spliffaofficial really well actually, there’s just a little delay between my head movements and it’s not that responsive but I think a little more tweaking and it will be good.

@@AV8r_Chamz Yes I would definitely give it a good try. It is definitely much better then using your mouse or mapping a key to a position in the cabin, especially if you don’t have a big budget.

This works great- you do have to play around with the settings to get it to feel natural for your own set up, but wow. I was just about to buy IRTrack - Thank you for this vid. Saved me $150.

when i use the tracker on dcs i cant move with my moouse,you know how to use the mouse and the tracker?
@@scoutslz you must find the keys to stop (and for start again when you want) the tracker and find the keys to activate the head movement with mouse (I think it could be Left ALT + C in DCS, but i am not fully sure)

@@meaningless5898 for me i just opened opentrack and and ai track and did the settings as he did in the video and it instantly worked in war thunder
the ports are matching all settings are set up and ai track is working but for some reason open track dosen't recognize when im turning my head and the octopus doesn't move Edit:i tried with steam vr and it work so theres a problem with ai track and open track communicating idk what it is still Edit: again works fine all i had to do is update AITrack to the latest build

@@hamzahabib5644 This is completely controlled from OpenTrack. Open the option and add a large dead zone. Also change the distance in AITrack from .6 to .8

When I'm using the AITrack, I get a blue box around my face that spasms when I turn my head too much, and it freaks out the camera in game. How do I fix this?
Never mind, I figured out for my part. I just upped the resolution to 720 and set my fps to 60, works much smoother.
AITrack isnt' feeding the data for me. Do these files need to be put in same folder?

My camera bounces around when I try to move my head to look at the corners of the screen. Tried everything but it's just not working. Uninstalling until someone helps
Does this have any less lag that using something like Smoothtrack for your phone? Seems like a silly roundabout way to have to go over IP when the source and destination are on the same PC.

I love this tutorial and easier option for me instead of having to wear a track IR headgear. What settings would I adjust in Opentrack or AI Track app that would eliminate "sway"? Meaning; when I play Battle of Stalingrad, I can't lock or center my view on the gunner sights. You have to align your head almost perfectly with the webcam (and keep it there) so you can aim and shoot accurately right down the sights.
Set some deadzone in open track, this Will make you view go back to center

I did everything as shown in the video. I got a mad octopus that runs around the screen without responding to head movements. Adjusting the curves doesn't help. It seems that OpenTrack does not receive a signal from AiTrack.

Why am I doing UDP over network and putting my IP Address?
For some reason my camera disconnects after a while. It's not a webcam issue, just checked and it works fine on Zoom. This problem happens only when Head Tracking is on...

This worked well, but for some reason, I've been having issues with a dealy of up to 2 seconds. I'd move my head to the left, and the octopus/ingame head for games such as falcon bms will have a very long delay making it nearly unuseable. Any ideas why that might be?
Maybe the type of webcam you're using?

My MSFS 2020 cannot recoqnize Opentrack. The video preview is in AI Track and Open Track but not in MSFS. In MSFS configuration the cam is not visible. Any ideas?

Thought this would be great. But after trying it I'm not so sure. So when you look up to the overhead panel or down at the thrust levers how can you see what your doing on the screen as you head is now looking up/down?
Turn the sensitivity up.

The idea is that if you turn your head say 5 degrees in real life, your camera view will move 20 degrees ..or some multiple of that ...whatever works for you as you adjust sensitivity.
That's why even with head tracking people use more than one monitor

2:40 honestly this video is missing a crucial piece of info/help. sooooo... how do you set up your webcam to work with this? Because mine is not.
If web cam is detected by Windows 10, it is good enough. It will not be possible to cover webcam setup as there are hundreds of manufactures with each have a different way to install .

@Nate Richards mine seems to be much more stable when I went Into filter settings (Accela) and applied smoothing and deadzone. Hope that helps
apply a deadzone and tweak the curves for each axis. should take lots of trial and error to get themto feel great
