It definitely takes some getting used to. Your head and (if you choose) your eyes basically become a joystick that you have to learn to manipulate just as you would any new game controller be it a hat switch or a stick. The really neat thing however is the 3D aspect as you lean forward and back. That is the game changer and makes it worth the price of admission.
Head tracking is less about realism and more about being able to look around. It's a huge night and day difference. But I have yet to find a video review of this thing that was positive but not sponsored. The few that weren't sponsored put it on par with the much cheaper TrackIR5 with both having different pros and cons.
I have two of these, one was purchased before this review with my own money, if that substantiates it at all for you LOL. They also weren't allowed to see this video before it was posted so they didn't influence my opinion at all! Track IR will be more precise but I don't want something on my head or a big thing on top of my monitor (I literally can't do this because I have stacked monitors anyway), that's why I prefer this one. But like I said, unless you play DCS or just have money to waste I'd advise upgrading other things in your setup before buying an eye/head tracker.
I've been fooling around using my iPhone for face tracking in MSFS, trying to get a feel for what the Tobii could contribute to my setup. Thanks for talking about multiple screens and showing how you work around it, I've got two touchscreens for Air Manager under my monitor and was afraid that looking down at the instruments could be immersion-breaking. Like glancing down at your instruments and your main view looks to the floor, for example. Lots of simmers running multiple monitors so kudos for checking that out. Any plans on a video maybe giving tips for newcomers to DCS? I'm planning on giving it a try too.
One issue that Ive been dealing with on the tobii is that it needs reset quite often. When you look right and left fairly often, like I do in the a320 when I taxi, it seems to get out of calibration. Yes, I set a flight stick button to do so, but it is fairly distracting. Or at least it is to me. Other things is that it moves a bit much when on approach. Maybe no eye tracking would help with that.
@@pi.actual ....yes, as stated in my original comment, I have a button set to do so on the flight stick, but its just annoying to have to reset so often. If you dont really look right or left, its okay, but that kind of defeats the purpose.
I’ve considered getting the eye tracker in 2021 but for some reason I had just remembered about it. I rather get an eye tracker than a vr set simply because I’m prone to motion sickness. I also recommend getting an eye tracker if you’re prone to motion sickness.
Hello, my friend, I have a problem with a simulator, how can I draw a map towards the landing runway, and I watched many videos and found a solution to the problem, but using an autopilot when approaching an airport, a pilot pilots a plane instead of me. Is there a way to draw a flight plan and draw towards the runway or the landing route without using Autopilot Please reply as soon as possible
I was about to buy the winwing panel because my bravo wasn't controllering the 737 then I was like.... well what about airbus. I settled on this because if i want to change something quick or enjoy the scenery more cause I wanted a flight stick with two hat switches I mean this checks all those boxes looks awesome!
Every video, every tutorial, that I've seen and read through shows the Tobii working right as it starts up but I'm struggling with getting that same experience. It shows up in my options, I can change its settings, but it doesn't do anything while I'm running Flight Sim.
Tnx for bringing it to the community. Pricewise, well, you save on investing on at list 2 more monitors. Wonder what happened if you fly with Copilot ???
How do you mount to a curved monitor? Do they give you adapters with the Toby 5 or do you have to buy something extra? Also was wondering if you were looking out the left Windows say of the aircraft how do you still see your monitor? Thank you for info and help
You can adjust the sensitivity so you don't have to turn your head very far at all, or turn off head tracking completely and just have it track your eyes so they camera moves to where you look! There's 2 mounting methods that are included, one of which would work with a curved monitor!
Feels so unreal en unrealistic. I had one, I turned my eyes/head and the game did the same. I have to look back with my eye to see the rest of the environment.
Hey Aaron great video I just have a question for you, what do you run MSFS on an Xbox or a PC if so what type of Xbox or PC I’d love to know as I’m trying to get into streaming more and I’m gonna get MSFS but what do you think is better a PC unit or Xbox? Please let me know thanks! Also what type if you use a PC plz let me know so I can buy one thx! Also once I get the streaming work I’ll have to let you know on Twitch! 😁
Awesome tech! hey man very cool vid. can i make a request review video of the combination of eye tracker with a xtra screen showing steam guages using air manager and knobster. Thank you!
I just bought one and setup is very very simple. BUT, good Lord, it gives me nausea... I mean seriously. I just shut it down. Tried it with ATS, ETS, XP12. Thats around $300 down the drain for me.
Used these in the past, gives you a headache even with the smallest movements. In the real world the world does not move, our head moves, in head tracking the monitor is continuously redrawing the world around you. Headache!!! - much better to use some POV switch or what I have done mounted an Xbox controller to the middle of my yoke and I use the Xbox button to move the camera around.
I fiund it much worse that TrackerIR. Pretty much unusable for me. 34 inch Alenware screen. Won't track the eyes looking to the sides. Game hub does have PC version of MSFS2020, just Steam version. It wasn't working on my MSFS2020 either.
nice dogfight...ussually its a good idea to convert your energy (speed) to altitude, so its usefull to go verticall and then come on the bandit from above
For a Company that normaly makes Communication devices for disabled or non verbal people thats quiet awesome, like vr but without these big pricey glasses....
Respect to Aaron for looking out for us, love you Aaron! 💛
Love your content bro
This would be really cool in a sim with a complete cockpit because you could get the perspective right, so it would feel like the screen is "3D"

With the VR thing you can use some tools to have the chat either float or attach to your hand
I'm still using my 'TrackIR' which was the first and It's unbeatable.
I mean you could just use a vr headset if it works idk
No doubt! VR won’t work for me while recording/streaming though

Tbh I’m a newcomer to DCS as well so I’m not so sure about a video of tips, but I do want to do some DCS content!

My solution is a view reset button and a tracker toggle button. The toggle also resets your view and you can quickly turn it off and back on again.

How to you make the tobii eye tracker 5 appear on the ps5 gameplay?? I am struggling to do that!
Wait but i dont get it.
Like if you look to the right then you wouldnt even be looking at the screen so how do you even do it?

Its pretty close to what its like playing msfs in VR just in a cooler way and with out a big box on the front of the eyes.
hello, what screen do you have?
You should do a setup tour
