Dear Johanna,You r grand father was my only teacher and my mentor during my studies at. NEC ,1958-61...A MONTH after classes started he said to me “...oh,I’m absolutely certain some day you’re going to sing at the MET...at 18 !! ...I was flabbergasted and for obvious reasons never told a soul about such an outlandish claim ....5 years later he was proven right!!...I loved every hour I spent in his studio ...Will never forget the lovely dinner We had at their lovely home He and Nancy had in Brookline .that was a very special honor! what a fabulous human being...❤️ Justino

When I worked in San Francisco for a year, I wrote to him just to tell him how much I loved his singing. To thank me, he took me to his club for lunch. A very sweet man. And he gave a faculty recital and was singing as well in 1972 as he did in this clip. An excellent singer.

He was under rated, mainly back then, because he was American, but he was solid of voice, in fact tenor Richard Tucker had his son (Who later became a Doctor) David Tucker study with tenor Jagel, who sang a wide variety of roles with a voice that had ample size and technic for Spinto and Lyric roles.

Thank you to all who were impacted by my grandfather. I only got to hear him sing once as a child in St. Louis. My older brother got to have more interaction with him. And yes, my brother is a tenor. Me, first soprano.
