I have fled from a place once people called “The Pearl of the Orient”, now it has lost its lustre for some reasons I can hardly explain. A lot of people feel grim and sad when it has turned to be “The Teardrop of the orient”. There are a lot of aching hearts who urges for nothing but just freedom and peace…… Yet, I hope our griefs will be soothed by the beautiful voice of our magnificent Star - Dmitri. His smiles forever will comfort our souls and revive our drooping spirit.
It was a day of mourning and sadness for opera lovers the world over when D. Hvorostovsky very unexpectedly, and much too early, passed away, and his powerful, yet very warm, voice fell silent forever. He will be missed by millions who appreciated his fine baritone, his passionate musicianship, informed by intelligence, and his good qualities as a human being. R.I.P., and thank you, Dmitri!

Yes, a wonderful singer and also a very handsome man, a son of Siberia. I had the good fortune of seeing him a couple of times in operas livestreamed from the New York Met to the local cinema theatre, and in concerts from Russia on the tv (I'm from Scandinavia) - such a joy to listen to him! Finally got to see him and Anna (another favourite) together in Verdi's Il Trovatore, live from the Met in the autumn of 2015. A great performance of a very dramatic opera - sadly it was, I think, the last time he appeared in a full-night staged opera outside Russia: he was already ill even if that wasn't visible at the time. Two years later he had passed on, and in the summer of 2018 the local cinema reprised the performance of the Verdi opera, we went to see it again, as a kind of farewell to this amazing singer. R I P Dima. SE💗RU

I have just felt the need to return here and express all my emotion and grief because of Dmitri's early departure. It's simply not fair for all of us music lovers. There was definitely something very special about this man. He had it all: the looks, the voice, stage presence, charisma. Probably when you are that gifted (way above the average human being), God's call is much more premature. Very hard to make sense out of it. Or is it maybe the way life is. I will cherish every single moment when your voice made me dream and (for some minutes) fly away from my short-lasting shell.

I couldn't agree more, these two are absolutely amazing singers. I was slightly late to the party - only discovered them when they had been famous for more than a decade (or with Dima, twenty years) but from around 2011 I took most chances I could get to see and hear them in transmissions from the New York Met to cinema theaters, in concerts on the tv (often from Russia) and also on TH-cam. Watched their final encounter on the opera stage in Il Trovatore (from the New York Met in late 2015) - after Dmitry passed away we went to see it again in a reprise screening, to kind of bid farewell to this magnificent and handsome singer. His legacy will remain for ever.
These two (Netrebko and Hvorostovsky) would have been a match made in heaven (lookwise, of course). Two voices out of this world. I deeply mourn the loss of such an artist. He still had so much left to give to the human kind... Wherever you are, Dmitri, may God bless your soul! My deepest simpathy to your family, homeland, friends and music lovers.

I have just felt the need to return here and express all my emotion and grief because of Dmitri's early departure. It's simply not fair for all of us music lovers. There was definitely something very special about this man. He had it all: the looks, the voice, stage presence, charisma. Probably when you are that gifted (way above the average human being), God's call is much more premature. Very hard to make sense out of it. Or is it maybe the way life is. I will cherish every single moment when your voice made me dream and (for some minutes) fly away from my short-lasting shell.

I couldn't agree more, these two are absolutely amazing singers. I was slightly late to the party - only discovered them when they had been famous for more than a decade (or with Dima, twenty years) but from around 2011 I took most chances I could get to see and hear them in transmissions from the New York Met to cinema theaters, in concerts on the tv (often from Russia) and also on TH-cam. Watched their final encounter on the opera stage in Il Trovatore (from the New York Met in late 2015) - after Dmitry passed away we went to see it again in a reprise screening, to kind of bid farewell to this magnificent and handsome singer. His legacy will remain for ever.
