Pertile is an incredible artist. Voice and interpretation blend together to bring out the essential beauty of the aria, specifically here but, present in his performances throughout his career. New York opera lost a great opportunity to enjoy Pertile's prodigious art.
Could you imagine him singing in an opera production at Indiana university ? The audience wouldn't know what to think. They'd be scared of the powerful sounds coming from his throat thinking he was an alien or something. Oh how far we have fallen in regards to vocal training and such.
