Its interesting because when Gavin sings it it almost sounds as if he's singing for someone else. Like he's actually mourning someone he knew who he saw let their life slip away from them. It's not as raw and painful as some other renditions but it's still beautiful and it makes me wonder how many different ways this song could be portrayed.
I think another interpretation is the man has become ill or developed in am addiction, and is now in the hospital or rehab. "These shoes and this apron" refers to his hospital gown, and "this place and its patrons" are a reference to the facility and the other people in it. The eponymous She is a friend or loved one who has dedicated herself to his care, and in the process has lost herself. He is apologizing to her and expressing his gratitude for everything she gave up for him.

Apocalypgloss Nope, best was with Sara and Maraz ! Saw them in 2017 ... they were stellar . Either way, nice and glad I saw Creed live with Midler in Hello Dolly , great actor sure he can rock anything 😉! As for this version , it’s ok ❤️ Sara’s the BEST !!!!

I had the great good fortune to see Mr. Kreel play Elder Price in The Book of Mormon. He basically ran away with the show (and the cast was stacked top to bottom). Hearing him tackle a deeply moving, gut-wrenching song like this shows how much range and talent he really had. Broadway is just a little dimmer for his loss.
