Thanks for the content. Cambly is one of my income streams. I haven't done Cambly Kids just yet just because I've really enjoyed teaching adults for a change just to mix it up a bit and give myself more of a range of experience for other things later. I am booked solid for the hours I work. I really love it and I love all of my regular students.

I agree with you that Engoo is definitely a great company to work for, especially if you're starting out. The pay isn't the best but aside from that they're great i.e. fast and helpful support team, great materials, complete schedule flexibility, etc. I'm not sure who told you they have a three hour interview?! For me, it was a 30 minute interview (which includes a short demo) and a 60 minute orientation session, and neither of those took up the whole allotted time. Also worth mentioning is while they do have students from other countries, it's probably 95% Japanese. Teachers will therefore have to understand if they want to get booked they will need to work during their peak hours: 06:00-08:30 / 20:00-midnight Tokyo time. I would stick to that especially for weekdays, then you can definitely open it up more on the weekends.

I was very happy to see Open English mentioned. I've been thinking about applying there since I do have some Spanish skills. I'm already with Cambly and want to do Cambly Kids. If things work out, I may give up my Chinese company. It's tough because I've been there for over 6 years now, but so much has changed. CK and OE seem like the better options now.
Hi George, try Cambly Kids for sure...and Open Eng as I said requires 10 hours / week which is a lot in my opinion.
OE is North American accents only?

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but I teach on OE and you need to REGISTER at least 10 hours of availability per week between 6 PM and 2 AM EST, but you must actually TEACH at least 16 hours a month at any point during the day i.e. a shift is 2 hours, so a minimum of 8 shifts a month. You're able to pick up and drop shifts at will (IMPORTANT: you still are responsible for any shifts you drop that are not picked up within an hour of the start time of the shift). Though we are locked in with a limitation of weekly/monthly hours, my experience with OE thus far has been primarily a positive one. I just started with Cambly two weeks ago (Adults) and I stick to priority hours to ensure bonuses and the 30 min guaranteed pay per hour. So far, I prefer the security of OE regarding pay and the ability to drop shifts up to 1 hour before they start.

Thank you Gloria! Nil seems to be on a hiring freeze at the moment. You can just put in the time zone into google to convert it and find out how many hours ahead they are. They are 1 hour ahead of Beijing Time in China.

Sorry, I don't. I don't see a way around that possibility if you are teaching online. Unless you find a company that does audio only but I am not familiar with one.

Elementary Teacher 8+ years, Online ESL teacher, Masters in Education, Reading specialist, TESOL cert, etc. I have literally applied for half of the companies outside of China. No replies or they are overbooked or don’t need any teachers, etc. I haven’t gotten any interviews yet. Any help? I’m still working with Magic Ears until the last day. Any help is appreciated.
Please also talk and make a list of non -Chinese companies accepting non -native speakers .
I would recommend Cambly, but they are getting more picky now.

Just use your camera or built in recording software on your computer like Quick Time or get someone who has a nice camera to film you on a tripod...then create a video that shows your personality and you can search on youtube for lots of examples.

Definitely not the end, I believe its just the beginning and while it wont be with companies in China - there are millions of people around the world who want to learn English.

My actual employer in china has informed the teachers they won't be hiring new teachers at public schools. This is so much bigger than what you guys are making it out to be. I'm ready to move abroad again somewhere else.

Open English is the company I moved to after VIP KID crashed. The pay is way too low for me, $13 an hour is way too low for someone with a degree.

Hong Kong is in China according to who? :) Hong Kong students are not affected by the double reduction policy. Mainland China only. Starkid is hiring and not affected if there students are in Hong Kong.
