Its an illusion of increasing contrast. If one side keeps dropping so severely in quality, numbers, or other, it makes it look like other has to be increasing in whatever measurement. For example, this current Star Wars makes the Holiday Special look almost okay by comparison.
Drinker, I first found your channel 3-4 years ago BECAUSE I noticed. I thought I was just getting old and grumpy when watching every show but then I thought, "I can't be the only person that thinks this". I searched TH-cam and here I am, years later, and boy, has it gotten worse.

@@noahglenn8305 I wouldn't put it past them at this point. The fact remains however that even the most arrogant, incompetent, malicious, shameless ideologue working in these roles have their limits. They can never undo the OT that's already on physical media, the EU books that have been printed and can still be acquired one way or another (wink, wink), or the classic LucasArts SW games that again exist both physically and digitally and will as long as humans exist to remember what SW _really_ is. I mean, Kathleen could come to our homes with a unit of Antifa right-think paramilitaries armed with... well, probably "dill-does", since they'll either have banned "firing arms" or simply wouldn't know how to use them anyway. They could knock on the door, say they just want to have a friendly discussion while shouting insults and slurs at me, but if they try to seize muh physical media? Well, it won't end well for them... because I'll defend my home, property and self even if it comes to "vile Lent" action (in Minecraft, of course).
This, but unfortunately most people are Joe normie centrist liberals who literally can't think beyond money and economics. Drinker included, can only ever talk about economics, it's not about money. It's about social engineering, control.
If it appears corporations are doing something that seems off, then you're just missing a piece of a profit puzzle. Corporations have no message, some employees might, but investors just want to see profit. Eventually Blackrock will figure even they can't keep this shite up forever. 9 trillion dollars is not an infinite amount of money. Then they'll just hop onto the next bubble. and again and again and fucking again.
Reminder that Leslie thought frozen was about a relationship between two incestuous lesbian sisters. That sounds like someone I want doing Star wars. Also her sister doesn't want ANYTHING to do with her... Wonder why?
C.S Lewis once said that people who only think of friendship as a cover for lust better the fact that they have never had a true friend, because they didn't know what friendship is. Lesley Squareheadland, former personal assistant of Harvey Weinstein, in believing Frozen was glorifying lesbian incest, betrays the fact that she doesn't know what love is... and that she wants to kcuf her sister.
All these brilliant Social Justice Warriors who think they know Star Wars fail RIGHT before the logo pops up ... "A long time ago in a galaxy FAR, FAR AWAY"
The Hollywood cinema of the 1970s was in fact very political, agenda-driven and nihilistic. George Lucas himself had made a very grim film in THX-1138 and he actually conceived of Star Wars as a palate-cleanser to both the po'faced cinema as well as the sadness and unrest that had consumed the world. Jaws had already shown that audiences were keen for some escapism in their entertainment, and by returning to classical myths and fairy stories and setting them in space, Lucas felt he could offer something old that felt fresh again. Star Wars was a myth that dared to restore our faith in the power of courage and virtuous action. It was, in some ways a healing panacea for the pain and suffering of the Vietnam War, the civil rights movement, the oil shortage, the missile crisis, the assassinations, urban decay. Star Wars was his message to an ailing world "Hey, it's not all lost. Look what we can still accomplish through pure human imagination!" And Star Wars' success in 1977 validated and vindicated his theory. The people in control of Star Wars today do not understand this. And that is why they seek to destroy it.
Hollywood was already flooded with activists for a long, long time, they were just better at hiding it. Take a deep dive into McCarthyism and Hollywood of the 50s, popularly disregarded as a "senseless witch hunt". The Coen Brothers even made a movie about it (Hail Caesar), which sort of works in the same revealing way as Eyes Wide Shut.

They aren't just activists, they're spiteful activists. Everything is written with spite, as the showrunners and actors will often say outright. A video drawing up what makes a show spiteful (the treatment or nonexistence of the group it hates, etc.) might shed a light on this. And even The Boys went from sprinkling it in to full blown spite now for season 4.

Correct. Season 4 of The Boys lacks all subtlety, it takes a dump on christmas/christianity, has a gay romance from a character that offered no indication of being gay the 3 seasons before, all the worst aspects from the right on full display with no mockery of the left...and the drop in quality shows.

They (Disney), could, if they wanted, create a brand new IP. An IP with new characters, new plots, new stories, and fill it full of DEI/LGBTQ themes… but instead they hijack an almost 50yr old established canon and wreck it. This is ABSOLUTELY purposeful (I worked for Disney off/on for 38 years). This is in keeping with Disney’s “vision statement”; to interject DEI/LGBTQ into everything they produce. Orwell said it best: "Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And that process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except the endless present in which the party is always right." 1984

I first encountered Chris on Film Courage (I guess maybe technically I saw him back in the day on G4 but I wasn’t into enough to know all the different people on there). Film Courage has a lot of great interviews and lessons, but one quote that sticks in my mind even after forgetting is from a write or buyer for a studio, and he said one of the biggest issues he sees when reading work from passionate but inexperienced writes is something along the lines of “this should not have come out in your first script, this should’ve come out in therapy.” And by that, he meant these writers were so passionate and blind to the incoherence and incompleteness of their writing because they were essentially just using the genre and setting of the story to just relive baggage from that past that they haven’t really finished processing and healed from. Leslye Headland’s interviews and what I’ve seen so far of The Acolyte reminds me of this. It explains why these people take it so personally when they get criticism and backlash because they see it as a rejection of their emotional exercise and experience aka tHeIr TrUtH. 🙄 They aren’t coming at it from a place of “Here are some ideas I think are cool, I hope you like it”, they feel like this is finally their chance to be heard as people. If they had more experience and/or weren’t having smoke blown up their asses by Kennedy and Fiege, they would have learned to further refine the work and remove themselves or ideally would have worked that stuff out in their work early on before anyone dared give them 10s or 100s of millions to work with.
@@jonfreeman9682 Representation is fine but that's not really what is happening. It is overrepresentation and misrepresentation. 7.6% in America identify as LGBTQ, yet it seems like there is a character of that orientation in almost every new show, that's over-representation. Can it be called accurate representation if a woman or POC or LGBTQ person is not allowed to be portrayed in a certain light due to possible political repercussions? If you cannot have total artistic freedom to write a character of any race, sex, gender, orientation, etc, in whatever manner you want a character to be written, is it really good for the product/art/society? The message should be that we are all the same, we're all human, we all have good and evil inside of us and those arbitrary superficial characteristics that make us different from one another are nothing next to the choices we make and the quality of our character. It is Orwell in a fantasy franchise. Prequels are re-writing history (the retcon). Is George Lucas or George RR Martin supposed to look at Star Wars or Game of Thrones and see it as some priceless artifact of Western civilization, too valuable to be sullied by talentless hacks? Or are they supposed to view themselves as being in the entertainment business, a mere occupation where the bottom line is earning a paycheck? If we were having this conversation 40 years ago, would any serious man actually consider Star Wars to be high culture? If I'm being honest I think the root hubris here happened decades ago, when the convention crowd started to take their silly hobby a lot too seriously. Don't get me wrong, the corporatist monopolization of intellectual property leading to an entertainment industry utterly adverse to originality is a problem, but this stuff was always just popular fiction. A complacent public placing undue reverence and unwilling to release their grip on nostalgia practically begs to be exploited. If you demand that a popular fiction outlive its natural life cycle you shouldn't be surprised when it's made into a zombie. Star Wars should have died decades ago.

Just a reminder on how Hollywood actually works these days. A project is greenlit when funding is secured (does not matter the quality, just the signature), which in turn allows the project to be undertaken and completed. It matters not to most of the people making the project whether it is successful or not, it just matters if they get paid for the work they do. All these current DIE projects are covered by 'guaranteed' funding if they tick some check boxes, so they will always take the money (they get paid) and not care if the project is any good (tick the boxes, get cash, laugh all the way to the bank when negative reviews come in). This is why we see, what we see.... Everyone would take the free money (kinda the point of DIE).
And vice versa. Awards and critical review has been structured in such a way that everyone MUST comply to the new ideology or you will languish in obscurity forever. If you are selling a movie to investors (and to some extent the public) it does help to show how your new project is exactly like all those other award-winning projects.
The investors mustn't want a ROI. But I wonder if the people who lend the investors money are delighted with no ROI? Even Larry Fink has had his bonus cut via his crappy investments.
I remember when we used to get excited about movies and things coming out. Now these days it's more like "oh boy, what did they screw up this time...?"

Hatred isn’t the opposite of love. Indifference is. That’s where we are when it comes to Star Wars at this point. When you hate something that’s happening at least there’s some kind of passionate feeling.
The topic nailed it. TV shows in particular are plagued with hiring activists who use whatever show they are given as a vehicle to push their agenda or message instead of just writing a good TV show. Only after you've destroyed their minds, you can begin to rebuild them as YOU want them to be.
That clip contextualized every piece of promotion-talk she did for this show. From her own mouth, she was inspired by something and wanted to make expensive fanfiction, realized that to sell it to fans of an IP she needed to adapt the IP to her fanfiction.
To Chris's point, It really is baffling how they literally just hire nobodies to write / director / act in a (previously) billion dollar franchise. There is intent behind everything they're doing, too. You could make the argument it wasn't up to Last Jedi, but beyond that, its blindingly obvious. They want to rewrite the history of Star Wars, claim it as their own, retcon and ruin the lore and previously established (male) characters, etc. All while consistently alienating their actual fanbase, and then blaming them when they don't like objectively awful media (with the budgets of a God). Its insufferable. I've washed my hands of everything Disney Star Wars. Its not canon, its fanfiction, and it all sucks ass.
I think Headland using the story as an allegory about the real world push for laws like the one Disney went against in Florida. After hearing about law against the witches teaching the force, good and evil is a point of view, and the way the Jedi are portrayed it started to make sense.
I've often found anti-Jedi sentiments stem not from anything Jedi actually DO (at least not with a proper good faith reading of the material) but from the watchers' own issues with religion and faith, that they then project ONTO the Jedi. Think about it, the Coven messed around with the "natural order", but the Jedi, understandably having concerns about an explicitly Dark Side power being used (because manipulating the midichlorians to bring about life is by default of the Dark Side), are the ones being portrayed as in the wrong for interfering with the Coven's own practices and self-determination, even though the Jedi are the ones asking Osha about what SHE wants and what SHE wants to do.
I actually think there's going to be a theme in the later episodes where they're going to show that the oppressed can become the oppressors. I think we saw themes of that in episode 3 because it really tried to invoke empathy for the witches while also showing them to be child abusers and hypocritical villains. Apparently Headland tried to produce a show or movie similar to this a while back. Too bad the writing for the Acolyte is so poor that I checked out after this last episode.
@@LadyElfTari "...from the watchers' own issues with religion and faith, that they then project ONTO the Jedi." - this is exactly why so much writing for a 'modern audience' is terrible. Instead of putting themselves into the heads of their characters and trying to write them the way they'd realistically be, their portrayals of them wind up being two-dimensional cartoon simulacrums of what they perceived these types of characters to be. The big bad Jedi in this case are self-inserts by the show's writers of all the people who made them mad back in high school.

I am so sick of the “representation” conversation. Seriously, does anyone not see the inclusion hypocrisy of having melanin accountants and ideology tabulators as hiring gatekeepers to exclude certain people and have this weighted above talent or merit? Have show producers lost all imagination, or their minds? Do they think audiences have lost their ability to relate to anyone that doesn’t look or think like they do? When I was a kid I used to love watching Kung Fu theater on Saturday mornings. Not one time ever did I think, “where are the people that look like me”, or “maybe I shouldn’t pretend like I can do kung fu because I’m not a monk”. I can think of 100 other great shows or movies that didn’t have anyone in it that were my exact “representative” match. As for Star Wars, how much more diverse could they get with a universe of aliens? Did they really need to expand the volume of actors just to meet quotas? No wonder the budget for the Acolyte rivals that of Dune! It’s gotten beyond ridiculous. Just write a good show and hire the best people for the job. No one cares what their skin looks like or their bedroom preferences. Can you imagine how odd it would be if George Lucas was interviewed after Star Wars came out and he mentioned 4 times during the interview he was heterosexual? Weird, right? Can you imagine if the NBA suddenly came up with a quota for short white guys that can’t dunk, and then labeled everyone who disagreed as an __ist or __phobe - that would be epically stupid! Unless it’s illegal, like PDiddler or Epstein and his island, I couldn’t care less what actors and show creators do in their own time. I see zero relevance to forced “representation” and tokenism, and find it even weirder to focus marketing on these non-product related elements.
It's even cringier when it comes to games, I have, as of yet, never met a gamer who wanted to see themselves represented in a game, it's actually quite the opposite, they want a fantasy.
Whenever people say "Oh now I can relate to these characters because they look like me!" it literally gives me shivers. In a bad way. It's a purely psychotic thing to say, which has somehow become okay for these people to admit. It shouldn't be a problem for people to relate to other people.. regardless of what they look like or who they sleep with. It's so bizarre it's become an okay thing to say and use as an excuse for more "representation". I mean, I'm white.. but I have absolutely no problem relating to people of other races. If you can only relate to people who look like you, you're the racist one. And somehow that's become acceptable. Blows my mind sometimes how racist these people are while claiming they're so inclusive and everyone else are the racists.

in order to vilify the Jedi, she had to make them the establishment. And they were not. The operated on their own schedule and recognizance (pre- prequels) but within the confines of a social order. They were not the police. they were not the state. And they were RARE.

That movie made me quit too. I never even saw rise of skywalker. They killed off all the skywalkers and then make a movie called rise of skywalker, like what the hell?
I lost a lot of respect for Mark Hamill in the wake of that, too. If he really disapproved of what they did to his character in "The Last Jedi" so much, he could have done what Bruce Willis reportedly did to short-circuit attempted studio interference in the later Die Hard movies: "So who's your *second* choice to play John McClane / Luke Skywalker?", and threaten to walk off the set. They needed him a lot more than he needed them.
Poor, sweet Theory. You don't think Headland got any sexual benefit from being a layer around Harvey? Her wife is an actress, how do you think they met?
Hiring sexual assault-adjacent survivor/facilitator Hedland for Star Wars seems somewhat akin to tapping actively depressed, mentally afflicted directors Hideaki Anno for Evangelion or Lars van Trier for Antichrist. They should probably be in therapy--not inflicting their trauma and anger upon the rest of us. (NM that they had more talent than her.)
They also did this with Spider-Man in the last movie. As much as I loved it, the subtle stamp to establish a strong female character was the “Great Power comes Great Responsibility” lesson switcharoo from Uncle Ben to Aunt May even if made no sense in the context of the movie because Peter was using his power in the most responsible way, which was trying to save the lives of his most dangerous villains from other realities by helping them cope with their powers and internal struggles. Peter even went against Dr. Strange who didn’t care about their fate due to the risks involved but did. So with all the power available with Stark tech behind him, he was already living up to his responsibility of doing whatever he could to save their lives. Then to cement this switcharoo they went ahead and told the audience the reality of the MCU is 616, aka the main Marvel comic book universe which had existed for over 80 years thereby retconning Uncle Ben.

However, when they got pushed out, so did everyone with the know how and competence to get it done.
I would add in BLM as a reason to go for broke with "Diversity & Inclusion." This was another opportunity to push out white, experienced men who had built IPs or were talented actors.
In past projects, Disney has been very specific about the Disney branding being applied to their movies / TV shows. For example, it was "Disney's Aladin", not just "Aladin" to differentiate itself from other works based on the same source material. I think "Star Wars" was it's own thing, everything after the purchase is "Disney's Star Wars".
Drinker absolutely nails it here. They know the games nearly over and they’re just going into overload mode, before they’re all fired (or probably promoted). Like Always Sunny…. “Times up”.
I felt The "Watchmen" tv series did the same thing - it retconned the identity of hooded justice, made Rorschach a white supremacist icon, changed dr manhattans chosen skin tone all while giving us a new diverse heroine that is so much betterer than anyone that came before her. Perhaps the punctuation and spelling were wrong, maybe it should have been - "WATCH! Men"
is that what happened in watchmen? I didnt watch it b/c i thought the original movie/graphic novel were a one-and-done perfect story to me. I'm glad I didnt watch the watchmen tv show, if that's what they did to it. f*ck that....i was right to not watch it.
Derp Felonious (Filoni) is another dark apprentice to KK, just as Headland is the Woke-colyte of Derp (Darth) Weinstein. Dismay (Disney) and the Rotten Kingdom is where creativity and storytelling goes to D.I.E.
The mistake people make with creative figureheads is that it may well be that they have a good idea of how the franchise should be but they are still powerless before their underlings terrible ideas.
Me and my siblings went to see Phantom Menace when they rereleased it, and as SOON as the credits ended, we all stood up at the same time and walked out right when the Acolyte trailer started playing 😁 We felt sorry for all the sad saps who stayed in their seats for that shit lol
She knows where all the bodies are burried. That's why she got $180million. The WALLETS are shut. They were made by the fans, and the fans keep them. The WALLETS ARE SHUT.
Daily reminder that Leslye Headland got where she is by knowingly allowing evil to happen, helping it happen, then throwing the person she was helping under the bus for self gain. She knew everything that happened was happening and stood by and let it happen.
And what's sad, is Disney CAN make good Star Wars. They just choose not to. A perfect example of that is Rogue One. 100% Star Wars, with a female lead, and NO ONE thought it was some personal agenda or "strong female character" BS.
Whenever anyone says that the Acolyte is getting review bombed because Star Wars fans can’t handle strong female lead characters, just ask them what Rogue One’s audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is. Actually I’m gonna go look that up real quick just to highlight the disparity between that and this show.
I thought Rogue One was trying a bit too hard with racial casting when I first saw it but yeah it's a very solid film. Maybe slightly overrated. Fans wouldn't be complaining if they had a bunch a different star wars films with their own stories, all as good as Rogue One.
@@ErikDayne Yeah. And we all know the critic scores can be trusted. /sarcasm Fans don't care if the lead is female. What we care about is if it's a good story with well written characters and Rogue One proved that. Sadly, Disney chose to go the "force is female" route and is burning whatever good will they earned with Rogue One, Andor, 1st season (some of 2nd) of Mandalorian.
What drinker is referring to here is the practice of historical revisionism being applied to entertainment. This is something straight out of the communist playbook.
It's worth stressing that it's intensely crude storytelling. In this case, rather than complicate the force or go with "they believe x. we believe y", the narrative throws them force powers like immaculate conception. If you look at the much maligned gary stu/mary sue playbook, a detail is adding in new characters who are immediately great at everything. This is an inverted form of that. THe characters are great, but rather than get approval from established characters, the characters replace and undercut. In the same manner that the mary sue was rewarded with powers, these characters are cheaply written to be superior - in this case with the universe handing them powers that leave the Jedi gobsmacked. it's not impressive to write "The then the jedi knight burst into tears and said 'hold me, I'm afraid'."
@@victorcates9330 That's exactly what they tried to do with Indiana Jones, belittling him and replacing him with Fleabag. Thankfully the info leaked and forced them to reshoot the entire movie to tone down the insults. Stilll sucked though.
@@Raskolnikov70 Handing off the baton to a successor is one thing. If the successor is framed as an improvement, rather than needing time to be seen as a legitimate heir, that's a problem. But replacing earlier or concurrently in the timeline (and not as an earlier prototype to be built upon but a better complete product) makes the heroes pale imitations or pretenders. Building on someone can be done respectfully - if falling under 'replacement'. And there would be a difference with indiana jones between saying he sucks (at age 80) and saying he always sucked. That would be a more stringent 'replacement'.
I ruthlessly made fun of SW Theory for years but now that he's here with us I feel awful for him. The guy wants really badly to just love star wars but it's irredeemably horrible so he has nowhere else to go to speak honestly
In the Darth Plagueis novel, it’s heavily indicated that what he’s doing when he tries to create these spontaneous Force-sensitive beings is essentially r@ping the Force-it creates Anakin as a counter to push back against his violations of the natural order. But here comes Leslie and her coven of lesbian witches… well, given her background, consent and the natural order isn’t very important to her, now, is it?
The 'last chance saloon' comment is spot on. The only difference between the absolute dreck we're seeing from zombie Star Wars & Who, and other shows that do this is that the inmates are completely in charge of the asylum at Disney & BBC, so there are no limits of the 'eff you' to fans on the former.
Honestly, Kennedy's tenure as the guiding hand of Disney Star Wars has me questioning just how much involvement she EVER had in her previous producing efforts in the past. She was part of some of the most iconic productions in the past 40 years, but we never saw anywhere close to this level of pure dogshit in those films/tv shows. She was either instrumental in how those previous films showcased, or she wasn't. Unless she has changed to such a degree that she is effectively unrecognizable as a that person? I guess that's possible, but aside from some sort of physical personality alteration (she lost or damaged some part of her brain), there's only really money and power. In that case, I tend to side with Herbert and she was always this way, just managed to hide it until she had amassed enough power to fully reveal her true nature.
I compare her to Cersei Lannister. She never had “her turn” and now that she finally does, she’s egotistical and incompetent with her power, and generally delusional.
You’re forgetting. Mando shit on it, Obi Wan shit on it more, Bobba Fett shit on it again, and then Ashoka ate the shit and pretended it was a gourmet meal.
We’re a few defilings deep now. Honestly I don’t even know what’s going on with the acolyte. Something lesbians and force impregnation? Anyway this seems like full on cremation.
she simply exists as an intersectional avatar; she wasn't hired she was cast. that's why she got this demolition gig on our culture and Dave Filoni wife probably lol

in 1977 nobody wanted to touch Star Wars at all. They came fresh out of the 60's, a similar bubble era of vastly inflated budgets and pompous films.
@@Nerdiness1985 Guess things were different back then.!

It's not about the story anymore, but sending The Message™
Joker: *_" ... this Hollywood deserves better a better class of crimi- eh I meant 'activsts'. "_*
Its not sending the message anymore its enforcing the message
@@RobizGaming2024 Maybe because it's a very specific message that's always the same, which is the same message that lots of other people in Hollywood as well as politicians and mainstream media are pushing. I mean, a lot of them look like Joker goons now.

Orwell said it best:
"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered.
So its ok to cast people based on their race, gender and sexuality as long as its not straight white and male. We can’t just ignore this, it’s not ok

'The Producers'
Exactly. It's not going away. If anything the backlash of an entire industry destroying that stuff taking off is hilarious.
DEI = Don't Expect Intelligence

The topic nailed it. TV shows in particular are plagued with hiring activists who use whatever show they are given as a vehicle to push their agenda or message instead of just writing a good TV show. To the activists, if a franchise dies because they ruined it with The Message™️ it's still a win. That just means there's one less franchise *not* spreading the message.
Create a wasteland and call it peace.
It's worse than that. Their goal is just that it's one less source of meaning. The Message ™ is just a means to that end.

They needed him a lot more than he needed them.
